GSXR 1000 clutch lever switch. Had this very same issue on my K6 track bike some years ago and that was fixed by changing the switch... I saw the same issue on a SV1000 K7.
@bobtebooij10595 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the clutch lever switch indeed. The bike thinks you are pulling in the clutch lever so it lowers the Rev limiter to prevent idiots from revving it to high.
@phille0425 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue but with the stand switch on my SRAD 750 -98. Apparently the small metal bit that pushed on the switch had been bent through the years and the spring to hold the stand up had got a bit loose so when I revved to 7000 rpm the vibrations got to side stand and cut the power from time to time. But yeah, the clutch switch can also cause the problem.

Measure voltage drop and amperage draw through the rpm range and see if it drops significantly at the cutout rpm. If it drops at that point ( from draw ) it could cut ( hard limit) but re-initialise as soon as voltage demand / load was off and keep doing that. Worth checking anyway. Use a live graph to measure the voltage load. Cheap cowboy check... Take bike battery off, hook a good car battery to bike terminals ( via jump leads ) run bike on dyno up to rpm you are getting the cutout, see if it's still there. If it's cured, buy a new decent bike battery with a good Ah rating. Reasoning... Car batteries are same 12v voltage but can provide more amperage ( voltage flow ). So using a car battery to check for testing negates an amperage feed drop/delivery issue that may be present in the original bike battery. If issue has gone, get a new decent bike battery. But..if bike STILL cuts out using car battery , next look at the voltage rectifier. (swap out for a good one if you have one). Measure temperature of the oem one in use.

Rectifier fix for the likes of old Honda VFR was after getting a new one ( SUN branded OEM if you didn't want to pay Honda packet price )... Fit the new one using thermal paste between rectifier and mounting point, then add a 12v pc type fan on the cooling fins to Ummm.. keep it cool in use. Heat is the killer of rectifiers. Man, a $2 item driving you crazy! I had a similar experience where a $2 item had me going in circles for an entire summer. It was one o-ring in the carburetor seat on my ninja that had a tiny nick in it. The nick would let fuel pass in the no. 1 cylinder and cause a flooding that would prevent it from starting. I literally went through the bike at least twice a week for three months trying to find the problem. Finally I pulled every part again in the carbs, air box, intakes... an inspected everything with a magnifying glass and then found the nick in the o-ring. Call the local dealership, order the part, installed it, problem solved.

Issues I had with my K5 trackbike.. Tea bag filter in the petrol pump blocked. (blocked by rust from the inside of the tank.. big flakes of rust in the filter) 2nd issue (after a crash (well 3rd crash)).. and Al's gsxr has been crashed), ignition barrel. Worth popping out the fuel pump and giving the tea bag a clean (and check inside the top of the tank for rust). And then try bypassing the ignition barrel. (you seem to have done everything else electrical) Could be a knackered clutch switch. (if the ecu is constantly switching between the idle map and in gear map ? maybe.. but unlikely ?). Disconnect the clutch switch and see if it makes a difference ? (rev limit is reduced by 500 rpm... and it won't pull as well as it'll be stuck on the idle/neutral map.. rules out the ecu constantly switching maps). Dodgy Side stand bypass wiring ? Don't worry Al, you'll still boss it, the R1 will snap a con rod/break a valve spring/drop a valve. (from experience) Keep up the good work.

Shout out if customs don't steal it. The last thing I bought from the UK got confiscated. It was illegal but still.

You guys are too funny but as soon as James looks into the camera, I fall out of my seat laughing my ass off. Even if I didn't like bikes I would still tune in. Thanks

I had a bargain bin 06 gsxr600 that had the stator and rectifier go bad on it, and I replaced them with a cheap no name set that I thought fixed the issue, the engine ran and charged the battery again but developed a serious miss fire right in the mid-upper rev range. So I replaced the stator/rectifier again with Genuine Suzuki parts along with the plugs for good measure and that solved my bikes issues.

What about the STVA? My GSX-R 750 K4 had horrible problems with a hard-cut at about 7,000 rpm. I repaired the soldering on the STVA and that cured it.

Had something similar on a GSXR 99 turned out to be the fuel rail pressure not being high enough. Worth a look..
@afropovic5 жыл бұрын
Its not the limp mode the GSXR goes in when the clutch switch is bypassed or faulty? You can turn off the limp mode in Woolich software (or the freeware RomRaider) by copying the fuel and ignition map values from the normal mode table, to the one that is read when the bike is in limp mode.

Have you guys checked fuel pressure. I work in a dealer and we took an 06 bandit 1250 in on trade and are having very similar issues we found that for some reason when it cuts fuel pressure drops to the point you can stall it on the "limiter" which is actually 5k to 9.5k depending on how it feels. We have tried multiple fuel pumps and pressure regulators with no luck the only thing it does is move the cut up and down the revs. If you guys have any luck id love to know and try it on the bandit and see if its the same issue

Bypass the kick stand switch. Or its possibly a faulty fuel pump. If gas leaks out of the bottom of the fuel pump after you disconnect the fuel line, then your fuel pressure regulator is bad.

i'm a long way off from knowledgeable, but is it a faulty high limit switch that is reading but not reading correctly? coolant temp, oil temp, pressure etc... sometimes those thermistors can still appear to provide output but not the precise value the ecu is looking for...

It's a long shot but once I rebuilt an engine and the head had been skimmed too much so the compression ratio was too high and it used to detonate at higher revs. Trouble is it might not show on standard compression test as it's only turning over at cranking speed. I only found out when I measured compression ratio accurately with head off etc.
