I think it has been said somewhere that "Self-improvement" will not carry over as that is for Hunting Horn specifically.

I believe we're going to find that secondary weapons are a great addition to the game. I've done a fair amount of speedruns in World, and if the endgame bosses of Wilds are anything like Iceborne, I think the meta secondary will be different for every boss, which is exactly how it should be. So I wouldn't stress over how OP something may or may not be 😃

Either way, even if people use HH for quick buffs(Pocket HH), the people who actively use it during battle will still have their own major advantage thanks to the new mechanics with the Aoe Bubbles and Dot while fighting. I welcome it as a hunting Horn main because atleast I won’t have to do ALL the buffing and groups will more frequently have good fun fighting some of the more complicated fights in the game!

Dropping a few thoughts on this video: Not to devalue any of the rest of their content or opinions on the game, but you'll notice that out of all the content creators that've claimed that this will be a crazy meta go to speedrunner strategy...aren't speedrunners, and don't really focus all that deeply on what's meta or why. And next to no speedrunners if any are talking about it whatsoever. That should tell people something about that assumption. Weapon swapping may have to be considered a bit deeper if you're looking at the actual effectiveness of possibilities vs just doing it for fun/options/variety. For example, double HH will be SUPER hard to pull off unless 1 specific song from past games (All Melodies Extended) returns. 2 of the same weapon for extra sharpness doesn't need to be a thing because you can just sharpen on the Seikret you'd mount to swap weapons anyway. If you swap for paralysis or KO, swapping back to your intended weapon will use up some of that free attacking time. Etc. Self Improvement is also coded to ONLY work on HH btw (and only the specific HH user that played it at that) unless they changed it to work differently this time around, but there's no reason to whatsoever from a game balance perspective. It's a weapon unique personal boost, like Kinsect extracts or Amped Sword. And you mentioned Clutch Claw...swapping constantly to refresh buffs with a HH you're not using would be WAY more of a constant break in the action, and for much less of a payoff. If I had to make a guess, if you're looking for what'll be most popular as a secondary 'pocket' weapon, it'll be the Bowguns: range, power, consistent accuracy and attack output, status utility, etc

The man himself! Thanks for the comment. Obviously I’m deferring to you since you’ve actually played Wilds and have an extensive history with HH. I agree with basically all of your points, especially about meta. Most of the time the people freaking out about the meta in MH should be more concerned with their own hunt times and improving at the game instead of getting everyone to join in on their panic over meta. If HH gets more in the spotlight in Wilds, like how it did in Rise/Sunbreak, then I’d say it’s well deserved. Swapping for a KO or to extend sharpness are probably the weaker examples of why one would bring a certain secondary. To your point I do think sleep is still valid; so either bowguns or a GS for wakeups. If self-improvement ends up only being applicable to HH (like kinsect buffs would most likely also be) then I do think that would detract from players choosing HH as a secondary. Not sure if you’ve personally tested it or if there’s confirmation of that anywhere. All the double horn stuff though with extended melodies like you mentioned sounds pretty awesome, both for HH mains and players who like supporting in multiplayer. As for the clutch claw, weapon swapping will definitely be more of a break in the action. I’m just not a fan of clutch claw and claggers lol, felt a little “forced” when it happened numerous times throughout a hunt. Looking forward to watching your coverage on Wilds 🤝

@@struckfluency Yeah, I just found it weird that everyone's been talking about how meta and speedrunner beneficial this is gonna be, but speedrunners have all been radio silent about it. I'm thinking that it'll only be 'good' in casual play where it won't matter as much how inefficient it'll be, and more utility songs will actually matter too--speedrunners would probably focus on Attack Up, and that'll be HARD to maintain. Best thing to do in those cases is to either learn more about the meta or just not talk much about it if it's gonna spread misconceptions like this (not you, more the people overexaggerating the whole matter). HH is probably gonna get at least a bit more popular; I just hope it's for the right reasons. I feel the same way about weapon swapping: best case scenario, it gets used more creatively than exploitatively. Sleep and melee+ranged is probably gonna be the most common go-to, but ideally, we see some other more think outside the box kinds of combos. Really needs to feel like something natural to do in gameplay too, because like you said forced/mandatory mechanics aren't the best. If you like it or don't care it's whatever, but if you don't...good luck avoiding it. Self Improvement was tested in past games to apply to other weapons, but like I said it literally does nothing. It's kind of like an on/off switch for default and full potential HH. The same state isn't coded into any other weapon. I mean, they COULD have changed it, but, well...why lol. It'd be a very weird design choice, especially since the devs have said they want secondary HH to be possible, but that'd definitely bump it up to Clutch Claw status. Would be a pretty lame way to use HH...something like double HH would be a much more fun gimmick.
I would love it if someone did double HH for more songs id be down.

Hh main here, by the time it takes to buffer up swap weapon hit monster buffs will be going off soon. So it not gonna be as broken as ppl think. However, a speed runner or best case two speed runners with pocket horn can really benefit from this mechanic. I think bigger concern is bowguns with staus, now that will be broken AF.

The weapon swapping seems more useful for bringing two weapons with different elements when fighting multiple monsters with different elemental weaknesses for a more casual game/play style
@xsaihaytqr7080Ай бұрын
04:13 Iirc self improvement only works for the user of HH that plays the melody. Not other players cuz 1. The HH player can't complete melodies easily if their weapons bounces off all the time. 2. its busted if others gain the same affects. 3. I don't think this buff would still work when swapping weapons and if you want to go that route then we could use the IG self buffs for weapon swapping too, and having all those with other weapons would make the weapon lose its usage merit.
@wigglerrave402024 күн бұрын
The pocket horn thing never sounded like a real problem to me because the tedium of constantly swapping to a horn just to play songs, swapping back, and doing it all over again about a minute or two later would discourage it. With how much you would be on your Seikret and standing around playing music instead of attacking the monster, there’s no way it would be more efficient than just using one weapon the entire time, either. Then again, some may have the sense to attack the monster while playing the melodies, but that requires some degree of experience with Hunting Horn to not feel like an idiot, and then you might as well just use Hunting Horn. Something else I haven’t seen anyone consider is that weapons like Long Sword and Charge Blade that build up some kind of gauge to get access to their strongest stuff would probably have an especially hard time taking advantage of this. I doubt spirit levels or phials are preserved when swapping to another weapon. You would take even more time trying to get back to full strength after using the pocket horn, and the amount of time you would really be taking full advantage of the buffs would be even less.

I'm just bringing 2 of my favorite weapons, preferably one that can guard and one that cannot. People are overreacting, talking about the Hunting Horn "Meta", which really doesn't effect much of anything if you don't want it to. Or how "OP" bringing a Charge Blade and Switchaxe will be (supposedly because it's like bringing 4 weapons), which really isn't the case. It just provides a nice change of pace, or an option to go on the defensive, or going to a more comfortable weapon when going up against a difficult monster.

@struckfluencyАй бұрын
Yup! HH players are excited at the prospect of doubling their list of songs by bringing a second hunting horn. Only caveat is that we don't 100% know how yet Self-Improvement works when swapping weapons, but if you're going with double HH then that shouldn't matter.
