Great video, love the cat's name, and didn't know keeping sway had s, or that you could charge the golfswing out of spin. Only nitpick: what you described as an "option select" isn't actually an option select, if you did that in a fighting game, that would just be a reaction. Option select would be like if you were charging the hammer, and you pressed triangle + circle at the same time, and depending on what the monster did you got either a keeping sway, an attack, or started mighty charge, without having to actually make a decision or react in the process, it just automatically gave you the best option for the situation, with a single input (or rapid sequence of inputs). Not that it matters, since Monster Hunter isn't a fighting game, but still, I'm a nerd!

Thanks for the Bonk-lepedia! In the beta I stumbled upon a way to shortcut to the golfswing in the golfswing combo, skipping the second hit. From a neutral state, If you double-press then hold triangle (on the second press) and input a direction, your character goes into the new "step" animation you mentioned after the first attack animation finishes. BUT if you release triangle at the tail-end of the step animation, your character does an instant golfswing, completely skipping the second hit of the combo. So watching it looks like: Overhead Smash I (or side smash) -> step -> golfswing. It seems unintentional, but I wasn't sure if anyone else stumbled upon it.
@struckfluency2 ай бұрын
Okay I’m glad you mentioned this because I was close to saying something about it in the video. I didn’t have enough footage of it and wasn’t sure if it was actually real lol. But I’ve done this exact thing with golf swing where it just skips the second pound and the golf swing FEELS faster than normal lmao. Just another thing to test in the next beta! If it stays in then that’s definitely good tech to learn 🏌🏻

So the main take aways from the beta hammer is big bang needs buffed spinning bludgeon needs buffed upswing offset attacks are cool and mighty charge is awesome. Hopefully full release makes motion values better and recovery time on some attacks better

I was very interested in the changes the moment the Hammer trailer and hands on reviews released, but had a few worries like -much dcreased reach as some peopke who played the early beta reported -removal of brutal big bang -removal of modes like in Rise, but not power charge from World (I don't miss that) -most likely no courage Hammer, thus potentially bad elemental damage Luckily most if these worries have disdapeared after I played the beta. At first I was certain Sunbreak Hammer will be my forever stay my favorite, but golfswing offset attacks might change that. Like honestly the additions of ofgset properties and the sidestep (not sure if it has any official name) to golfswing are just fantastic, yet so simple. The hyper armor and roar negation is weird tbh, but also a welcome bonus too. I already see myself sink another 1000 hours into Wilds with just Hammer. Makes me already fantasize about the additiobs the expansion will bring. Anyways great video.

While I'm no longer a Hammer player, I am a bit afraid that Wilds is gonna give Hammer the Risebreak treatment, where one or more of its moves/combos becomes completely obsolete because of an objectively better move to spam all the time. Rise had this with that silkbind move and Sunbreak with its overtuned charged moves, completely invalidating the point of Big Bang or any other move for that matter. While the new additions in Wilds is amazing and certainly solidifies Hammer as "the charging weapon", weaving in and out of charge states, I do hope that Big Bang remains the optimal move for a long openings. It's nice seeing that they made Spinning Bludgeon a sort of combo extender. besides that, great guide. rlly tickled my inner bonk appreciation
@struckfluency2 ай бұрын
@@yado2217 I appreciate the comment! I would say that Wilds hammer already has a more diverse move set than World/Rise. Golf swing matters again thanks to offsets, the new mighty charge and focus strike are super important, and your normal charge attacks all have a place. I think there’s more to Spinning Bludgeon now since it can connect moves. Big Bang is the only attack that feels kinda pointless? But if the damage goes up then it could be the primary method of entering Mighty Charge during KOs. Wilds hammer feels like an upgraded version of World instead of the more specialized (lol) move set it had in Rise/Sunbreak. What weapon do you main now?
@DTPandemoniumАй бұрын
Big bang still has pitiful stun damage (good) so there is a niche when a monster topples and you know stun is close you do big bang first until it gets up to not waste knockdown. Rise/Sunbreak hammer had way worse issues than impact crater spam. Attack recoveries were significantly nerfed forcing you to use wirebug dash to not be slower than previous games... on a crackhead fast game. You needed to keep buffing with wirebugs to even keep up with other weapons' damage too reducing wirebug count. Endgame of sunbreak anomalies had so much health stuns dont exist for 60% of the fight anymore. Not even gonna elaborate on invisible slopes locking you in slide for 3 seconds. Only weapon without frame 1 parry as well
@damianwozniak39462 ай бұрын
9:42 Pretty sure it was confirmed on the website that successful offset attacks only have a chance of knocking back a monster. From my experience the first few times it's guranteed to knoch back mosters, but succesive offsets will not. Question if there is a hidden timer or something else. As for the damage taken on a successful offset, I believe it's based on how close the monster attack (or hitbox of it) was about to hit the player. As explained in the video offsets have a rather generous framewindow and the soober ut connects the less (or non at all) damage is taken. Tho I can't really say for certain. More testing would be needed to confirm that.

I saw in an insect glaive video that there is an in game setting we can change. So focus mode can be switched on and off instead of being on while held. It could be very useful for every weapon.

level 1 mighty charge uppercut infinite looping into golf swing combo that you can also hold for timing is so fun. With on the fly weapon swaps, status hammers may also be a lot better although not sure how the status armor skills will work. But I think I will start with lance this time instead of hammer in every other game.

What are some recommendations for a secondary weapon with the hammer being the main weapon?
@struckfluency2 ай бұрын
IMO it's all player preference. the bowguns are gonna be good for status/set-ups, there was an ammo type in the beta that when shot at the ground it gave you some sort of buff that I've seen a lot of speedrunners use. other than that you can use a bladed weapon for tail cuts. HH if you want to give yourself buffs when monsters change areas, or another hammer that has skills/element/status that you want. weapons having skills could impact your choice but until we have the full game it's hard to know how much of an impact secondary weapons can have
