Dennis's relationship with sexuality (and basic human emotion) is complicated. Mac and Dennis work because Mac needs to shower obsessive attention on someone, and Dennis requires adoration of his Godhood. Together, they're a perfect couple.

I know a bunch of trans people and none of them have a problem with the episode. Everyone except Mac correctly genders Carmen at all times and Mac’s dumbass transphobia is routinely clowned on by every other character in the episode. Like the one common criticism I’ve heard from the community at large is that it would’ve been nice if Carmen was played by a transwoman. The usage of the t-slur also ain’t great. That said, some marginalized people are always going to be unhappy hearing a slur that’s historically been screamed at them as they’re being beaten to death. And that is a totally reasonable and valid reaction to have, no matter the context.

@@MrDavidNichols Around season 4, Sunny starts to make a LOT of jokes about the nature of their relationship, like when they feel each other's nips or that episode where they're competing over who are the closest friends between Mac, Charlie and Dennis (and Mac ends up with his face next to Dennis' cr0tch), or even when Mac gets hard on stage with Dennis as Dayman. They're absolutely playing around with the characters' sexualities and suggesting that they aren't straight. There's a panel from Comic Con around 2009-11 where the actors acknowledge as much.
