I wanted to clarify some things in the comment section just for the sake of it: 1. Yes PewDiePie lives in Japan and respects the Japanese. He is not telling tourists to stop visiting, he is telling them not to disrespect the culture. 2. Many are saying, "oh this is not a big deal, tourists do this all the time." Just cause it happens all the time does not make it okay. You should expect your own Government to first and foremost protect your people. And IMO I do think it is a big deal in a peaceful country like Japan. When there is a sudden surge of toxic tourists, the shift is pretty noticeable and that will bother the locals. I mean recently, there have been many foreigners, not just Americans, that have harassed enough locals for Kyoto to start banning tourists from parts of the Geisha district.

I just moved to Japan on may 1st so ive been here less than a month but i have been here multiple times. where i live im around an hour away from the nearest city so we dont really have many problems. Everyone in the village where i live laugh at me because when i finish my work in my machine shop, I will walk down the street to the candy store and get some snacks and walk back home, my fiance told me that the specific candy shop that i go to is called Dagashi and they are seen as something for children. About the only thing i have heard where i live is sometimes the hotel owner in the village will tell people that they are booked and dont have any space so they will leave the village and she said that she makes that choice based on how they interact with her. I do need to agree though but also add onto it that i personally think that social media as a whole is kind of ruining japan. My fiance took me to a restaurant and people there were more interested in taking pictures of their food instead of eating it, people will just walk into the middle of the road and take a picture of them doing some stupid pose while making a goofy face and there are some places such as parks and malls that put a ban on recording completely.

Born in NZ and grew up in Asia, and this is true. In Hong Kong, the original coasting is slop that just sloughs off the meat, but the hot and spicy/grilled skin is top tier. In Japan the original coating is thinner, lighter and crispier with better coverage (heavier than tempura, lighter than 'normal' original KFC). In New Zealand, hot and spicy coating is not available at all, but the original coating is done in the old way so its crispier thicker and covers better with a heavier flavor.

Theres always extremists, but what Asmon said about most Japanese being totally okay with foreigners is right. Ones that are respectful and assimilate well generally blend in well. The problem is a lot of bad actors. It's still hard to get a credit card here becuase for years people maxed out their cards and dipped back home. Its hard to find an apartment becuase foreigners are way more likely to do damage and be a nuisance (especially military). A few, very inflammatory people ruin it for everyone and make people think the japanese are more xenophobic than they are, when a lot of times theyre just covering their asses.

Just got back from japan and ive been going for over 10yrs. First time i seen ppl openly being disrespectful. Had some streamers filming the mcdonalds menu at 6pm in a busy tokyo location. There was a massive line behind them cause they took forever at the screen - just get some fucking self awareness. Do your video off peak or someone less busy not dinner peak ffs. Jaywalking is almost never necessary in Japan - the streets are designed with flow in mind, lights are timed and synchronized. I was there for a week and I barely even had an opportunity to jaywalk. Once I did manage to jaywalk, and a little old lady trailed me without looking (because it didn't even occur to her that someone else would jaywalk) and she almost got ran over by a small truck. My FIL worked in Saudi Arabia for several years, he had a coworker who had his wife and autistic son fly in for a visit. The son was really fixated on cameras at the time and happened to take a random photo out the bus window as they were headed to their compound. A policeman saw the flash go off and stopped the bus. He made all the non Saudi people get off, verbally abused the son and father and threatened them with extensive jail time (non-citizens taking photos is illegal almost everywhere there), and confiscated the camera.
