What great achievement, Dave. I know you wanted this installation to enhance the operation of this engine to take advantage of all the features that ERR offers. It's great you have the patience to stick with a project, even though it's unclear at time what direction to take. Thanks for sticking with it.

Dave, you must be at least part Italian, 'cuz that alot of spagetti you got going there! Fortunately, an ABS shell hides a world or sins, and adding electronics to model trains brings a world of experience as well. Before you know it, you'll be buying broken down LEGACY engines and resurrecting them back to the relm of the living! Great video Dave.

Haha, I’m only Italian by marriage! I wasn’t really looking for it but this project was a great introduction to boards

Thanks. It’s a great upgrade. But did I really need it on a flat layout with an engine that already ran pretty consistently? Guess that’s up for debate!

Great job Dave! I'd have been a bit daunted by all that wiring but you dove right in and made it happen! Right, maybe at some point in the future you can shorten up all the wiring but for now I'd just leave it as is and enjoy it! Thanks for posting!

Well done, Dave! Very interesting project and video series. Like you, I know just enough about electronics to be "dangerous". I have a few planned electronic projects: a tinplate, indexing turntable (I'm a Prewar guy); a compact, simple board for signal control (triggered by isolated 3rd rail track sections); and maybe another small board for switch/signal integration. On my previous layout I used a separate DC feed for some applications. Thinking about just adding bridge rectifiers and voltage output controls to each board design, to simplify overall layout wiring (one AC accessory feed).
@dagryffynhobby

Thanks! I know just enough about a lot of things, and in most if not all cases, it’s just enough to be dangerous as well. Haha. Those sound like some good projects!

Dave, those E7s look like to be a great set for your passenger cars. They sound great with the speaker upgrade, I wounder if you drill holes into the side of the pvc would make a difference in the sound? But they sound great.👍

Thanks! I’m thinking of ordering more speakers and trying a few different setups on another engine to see what works best.

Great job, Dave. You took a beautiful looking set and made it sound and run as good as it looks. While I'm not a fan of electronic controls, Im a sucker for the electronic sounds, and you picked a good one for this set. They now sound as good as they look. It's too bad that the ERR sound systems aren't more affordable because I would have one in every engine.

Modern engines look fine till ya remove the shell and then the nightmare stuff shows it’s ugly head. I’m glad I love silence over noise, cause that spagetti as another referred to it as is just not worth it. Being practical I eliminate anything with wire that can go wrong. This includes “E” units, horns, and relays. Only the steamers on my layout have everything intact. That’s only out of respect for them because they are older than me & everything is still working. The older one’s don’t even have smokers only a motor acting as a fan for the whistle in the tenders. Honestly the electronic ”sound effects” is annoying when added to the wheel/track noise. But your video’s are interesting some better than others.😊😊
@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby Ай бұрын
Thanks! They can’t all be winners! I love the mechanical sounds of the older trains. I even like running these newer ones silently. But I also enjoy the noise sometimes I really like having the option. While the electronics can be a problem, it also presents me with a new opportunity to learn something. That of course doesn’t mean I’m rushing out to buy a new $2000 high tech engine!

These also run on both ac and dc, the point of the board in this use is mostly to limit the voltage from the 16v the board puts out.

Thanks! It actually didn’t cost me anything, the whole thing was a donation. I believe the boards are around $150 each. There are other options but I believe they are more expensive.
