After 2 different cams were ran in this bike as stage 2 (CR480 & the CR485) The customer found himself hooked! A few drag racing meets later the stock flywheel had threw the towel in & ended up twisting. Not surprised after so many launches on the drag strip with the 240mm wide rear tyre.
The customer decided to future proof the bike & do a 128ci Sneaky Pete build from A.P.E

Ive heard the crank can handle up to 150+ hp, just curious as to how much of a hard time they can take with a stage 2 plus? While retaining correct throw out specs? Im in the process of getting the sneaky pete done and just for advice on how well will the crank hold up while using it for street and the occasional strip?
@MasterTechMiller
@MasterTechMiller 8 ай бұрын
If you are wanting 150hp or more then I would highly recommend getting a welded crank. Either the welded OEM option or an aftermarket one. Sure, the OEM crank will handle the 150hp you want, however you will find that you start to ride a little harder enjoying the power & then you'll reduce the life of the crank. The Run out is always moving & changes from time time. I've built engines with 6thou run out that have done over 20,000km then came back for a cam swap & the run out was 2thou.

Does the stock gearbox cope? Would you recommend a Baker gearset? What about an S&s rear belt? Can the stock main crankshaft bearings be improved? I suppose it all adds up. Love those kit builds. 👍👍🇦🇺
@MasterTechMiller
@MasterTechMiller 8 ай бұрын
The stock trans is fine for this level as is the OEM drive belt. I believe you can do the Timken Bearing mod on these if you wanted to? I've never done one on an M8 so I can't comment any further. Baker cassettes are great if you want some added insurance on your build.

Would a longer exhaust system improve the performance vis-a-vis HP and TRQ
@MasterTechMiller
@MasterTechMiller 8 ай бұрын
If a longer 2-1 was used it would pick up a bunch of TQ at the bottom through the mid range. Peak HP would increase too

A question out of curiosity, why would someone want to do anything less than the 128ci?? Ive personally always wondered why people wont just out the biggest possible bolt-on kit while doing the work anyways.. 🤔
@Gimps_Garage
@Gimps_Garage 8 ай бұрын
@@linusbergkvist5072 going from a 107 to a 128, you’re bound to have more issues with the bottom end and will need some bottom end work. Also, the 124 has been proven to be more stable in the long run for motor longevity.
@linusbergkvist5072
@linusbergkvist5072 8 ай бұрын
@@Gimps_Garage oh! Okay, but for the 114 and up the 131 seems to be a pretty solid kit and even in the long run it seems to be a beast of a kit. Never tought that the 107 had a weaker flywheel.
@Gimps_Garage
@Gimps_Garage 8 ай бұрын
@@linusbergkvist5072 it also has to do with having too much power. I know I know. What a crazy thing to say 😂 but honestly, when running a daily cruiser with 150+ TQ and HP, they become exhausting to ride. It becomes a chore just to cruise. When you’re immediately putting out 135HP/TQ at 2,000 rpm to the wheel, you gotta be really holding onto that bull. I sold my built out 128 / 2020 RGS. Because it just had too much power with the build and tune.

Great video as always , I gotta question, if you're balancing and welding the crank is it necessary to reinstall the counter balancers, ditching the extra weight could free up some HP.
@MasterTechMiller
@MasterTechMiller 8 ай бұрын
We have removed them in the past and tested back to back results on the same dyno with the same engine combo. MINOR gains were found when running no balance shafts. Sure a gain is a gain however in my opinion it's not enough of gain to warrant the removal of them.

Update: I asked my buddy. He said it’s called the “combat shorty”. Looks like a freedom performance slash cut. One of my best friends family owns freedom performance exhausts. But I will never run one of their pipes on my bikes 😂 they look and sound good. But most of them do terrible for performance

@@MasterTechMiller I am taking my 475 out of my 128 in the Road Glide and changing it to a 483 or 515 CR . That is what I’m asking about the throttle body because I don’t have one in now but have one on order , now a 55 S&S in it . I have a 515 in my 132 lowrider st . I guess I was thinking weather to take the heads off and change the sprigs for the 515 . Do you think i should change the springs and step up the 515 , is there a lot of difference I will notice with from the 483 . I have 128 in the RD glide and the 55 with 5.5 injectors and Khrome Works outlaw two into one . Stock heads, also I would like to say that I love your info and videos and trust what you say . Not as bad as the Fatboys. Unfortunately it's just the way the Fatboys are with that 240mm rear & 160mm front tyre. They chew out the RH side of the front tyre.

Can you explain why?
@danr919
@danr919 8 ай бұрын
Pretty simple why, if a master tech who does hundreds of these builds uses stock plate and pump with confidence well enough said. But also it’s clearly known that the aftermarket suffer from cam bushing rotating and blocking oil ports, the HD 8 lobe pump is designed to stop sumping and high performance scavenging, the hd 8 lobe pump is the best scavenge pump on the market. Aftermarket increases feed side pump which can cause issues. Hd plate and pump also have inner seal so the plate also was designed for these reasons That’s my take on the topic. I’m sure Tommy can fill u in better or correct me if I’m wrong, he is the master at his job which I’m not but with his choice and my reasons don’t think this needs anymore explaining cheers

@danr919 Tom said his self that the screamin eagle billet plate and pump was the best in the market. The reason why people stay with the stock plate is that they run out of money. Tom said that no me.
