two barrel sets, the sub gauge barrel normally weighs more because of the additional barrel thickness to fit the larger 20ga receiver.

Do you plan to use the 28 in 3 inch lead for pheasants
@thatshpipguy56506 ай бұрын
I've been looking at Upland Gun Company for nearly a year now. Steve got exactly what I've pretty much decided on (Venus 20ga with additional 28ga barrel set, English stock, double trigger). Nice to see my choice affirmed by an expert. Now, it's time to get measured.

Just returned from SD hunting non pen raised pheasants with my 28 gauge SBE3 28 using 2.75 prairie storm #6 AND FIOCCHI 3 inch #5. Took down pheasants regularly out to 40 yards and one that was further. This is my second year chasing SD pheasants with the 28. Impressed one the guys ! was hunting with that he planned to order one from Scheels. The SBE3 28, in my opinion is the best gun for SD pheasant hunting.
I am so happy for you and your new gun. A friend, who recently passed, introduced me to the beauty of fine grained wood and wood to metal finish. Yours definitely is a beauty! I know it will be something that will last a lifetime and will be passed down to your children. I love the classic look of a side-by-side and have owned two. Sadly I can't hit the broad side of a barn with them and went back to over-unders. Maybe if I could have engaged you as a teacher I might have made them work. Again, contrats!

I talked to them about having a Venus made for me in 24 gauge. Will definitely pull the trigger on that one day. The 24 I have is a single shot with a fixed IC choke and it doesn’t lend itself well to longer range patterns. Smokes clays though.

The last couple years I have been hunting pheasants exclusively with a 28ga, and have yet to notice a downside. They shoot great, are lightweight, and essentially zero recoil. They are more than lethal for pheasants. I choose to use Boss shotshells. Their shells are much more reasonably priced compared to other companies bismuth. Not cheap, but more reasonable. I do like to use non toxic shot for all hunting, just my personal preference.

What barrel length for the pheasant gun?
@danielmizicko75286 ай бұрын
@@wryanbailey82228" on an O/U and SxS. I'd much prefer 30" but that can be tough to find on a field gun sometimes.

SxS’s are cool. SxS’s that actually fit are even cooler! Luckily I’m a pretty standard size for guys during the SxS era of fine English guns so I’m pretty lucky. 👍🏼

Are you allowed to have both barrels loaded at the same time in CA?! 😂 High capacity
@Joshua-yr2fz6 ай бұрын
I ordered one very customized as a dedicated modern waterfowl double. The rear trigger is heavier bc it has more wear engagement to prevent dunking, both sears tripping when you pull the rear trigger first.

i can see the appeal if you want it to your spec and want new, shoot steel etc. HOWEVER for a similar price you could find a pair of vintage boxlocks that might be close but not perfect in measurements, the unfortunate truth is sxs’s aren’t as popular nowadays so you can get some real quality older ones for a bargain. You may have someone else’s initials on it though, depends what you value more

@mrsmartypants_16 ай бұрын
HOWEVER…. If the gun was designed only as a 28 gauge wouldn’t it be lighter? To accommodate the 20 gauge receiver etc.. it makes sense that the 28 gauge barrels weigh more but I would think the “pure” 28 gauge is lighter than the 20 gauge. I only have basic shotgun knowledge but my engineering brain says that must be the case - unless to save manufacturing costs the Italian company does not make a 28 gauge specific platform.
