Nice review,Mick! I did have a question about your comment on the Sport piston-filler being slightly smaller than the plastic Sport. I thought Kaweco went to great pains to keep the piston-filler the same size as the other Sport models? Where is the piston-Sport smaller?

It’s not by a lot… but if you look in the size comparison, alongside my regular sport, the posted length is just slightly shorter. As I say, not by a lot. But being as familiar as I am with the original sport I carry every day, I can feel it.

It is a nice pen but I ain't paying that much for a Kaweco sport with a piston, it's blatantly overpriced, for that kind of money I could get a Pelikan m200.

I loke the pen a lot but it is just as thin as the isual Slort model. I do wish it was a bit wider.

But that closeness to the sport is the point… to have a Sport model that is a piston Maybe one day they will made a Sport XL… it’s an interesting idea

Great review from my go-to person in FP reviews. This is a firm NO for me. It has a capacity of 1.25ml, which is the same as a Lamy cartridge. That’s an improvement on the original, but it’s not up there with your usual pistons. For the price you could get some really great pens with change: Pelikan 200, Pilot Custom 74 and Platinum 3776, the latter two have exquisite gold nibs. For a bit extra, you can get the superlative Lamy 2000. This is still the same, imo, dry KaWeCo nib that I just loathe. I have a lot of philosophical objections to KaWeCo as well. As with Esterbook, it’s trading on a historical legacy. It’s my view that corporations are like humans and once dead, should remain dead.

Everyone has different views on all this, and you make a well thought out case for your perspective. This is definitely not going to replace some of my piston pens with larger capacities… but personally I enjoy this a lot, and I definitely wouldn’t call this a dry Kaweco nib. There definitely are a lot of those, but this one write nicely for me.

@@theoffstageme I definitely appreciate and respect what they’ve achieved here. It’s probably become a bit late for me because I have enough KaWeCos. I guess they wouldn’t spent a lot of money engineering and re-tooling for this one. You’d imagine it’s going to be a long time until they break even, hence the premium. I can understand that a lot more than the Esterbrook which is $300 for a plastic tube with a JoWo nib. I wish them every success with the product. It’s energising to see investment in an industry that to many (not us!) shouldn’t even exist!

The one I ended up with is a wet noodle. I don't like it at all. I got too carried away when I saw that the piston filler had finally come to fruition (which was the only way I'd ever buy a Kaweco), and now I'm stuck with the thing. :/
