This is a cool idea. I did something similar years ago, but they were bases for aircraft. I had carrier decks, hangar facades, and stuff like that, framed by oak. People liked them but they just didn't want to pay what I felt made it worth doing them. So I stopped. The SciFi crowd is probably a better market though.

This is much too big for Star Wars X Wing miniatures right? I think X Wing is approx 6mm scale.

Landing pads are largely scaleless so I used the Severna design for 15mm in exactly the same physical side. You could definitely use most of the sides and tops in the modular core set.
