I think we could save much more money by removing the fuel allowance for MP's on their own homes AND their second homes. If all MP's who currently receive this allowance [and I include Conservatives, Reform, Lib Dems etc. in this] had it removed, there would be more than enough to cover the £300 winter fuel payment for all pensioners. There's actually a really simple solution to their £22b "black hole", and it's not scrapping the winter fuel allowance. Which, by the way, will only raise £1.4b. 1. Stop spending £10b on foreign aid. We don't need to be sending any money to India, or China. Both of those countries have space programs. If they want to install some wind turbines or solar panels let them do their own budgeting. 2. Stop spending £8b+ on free stuff for illegal immigrants. Stick them in camps until we can send them home. They don't need free dental, free hotels, free flats, or free anything else for that matter. 3. Stop spending how ever many billions it is on Ed Milliband's nonsense energy scheme. 4. Deal with the 1.6 million economically inactive asylum seekers that have been given the right to remain. That's costing about £16b a year. 5. Stop paying benefits to those that we've told to leave, that haven't left 6. Stop paying out to the unions since they've said they're going to strike again anyway! Seems to me that if they did even one of these things the "black hole" would shrink to half it's size.

🤔It was only around 10 days or so ago, that I watched the PM giving a speech, saying that energy companies were declaring exceptionally enormous profits, and was talking about a "windfall-tax" being applied! ... Supposedly the Gov. is unable to apply a 'cap' on the amount of profits being made, but surely this "windfall-tax" needs to go towards the fuel allowances?

My heating failed during winter a few years ago, it took over a week to fix it, I cannot imagine what it would be like to have no heating at all. When I was young houses had solid fuel fires such as Rayburns and open fires burning coal and wood even oil but that’s all been fazed out for gas and electricity which is more expensive. Wood burners are expensive to install and these are not always appropriate.

Even if you do claim Pension Credit, the backlog is several months now. The whole system is clapped out and not fit for purpose - except for HMRC of course as they are quick to demand money.

They have also stopped warm home discount if you are not on eligible benefits. I was eligible for it on the first year of retirement, but they changed the rules again. I am still on a low income and my situation has not changed. That was the tories. Now Labour are stopped the winter fuel payment because £3 oer week to he eligible for pension credit. So now, I will be worse off than the poorest pensioners on Pension Credit. That's before any of the other perks are taken into consideration. 2 tier Kier and a 2 tier poorest pensioner.

I thought I would get warm home discount this year because I get housing benefit and am on a low income….. I looked at the form to apply and it asks you about what sort of boiler you have and how old it is. If your boiler was fitted after 2005 then NO you don’t get it. I have less money coming in, will lose winter fuel allowance and still they take more away from you. Pensioners are being treated so disgustingly and left to sit in the cold while these greedy politicians get allowances for this that and the other. It’s an appalling way to treat people

Government Living Wage is £11.44 per hour. Or £446.00 per Week and £23,200 per Year. Based on a 39 Hour Week. Pensioners get HALF OF THAT in State Pension £11,492 Pounds per Year. Are Pensioners not allowed the Same Living Standards as Everyone Else in the UK. We are Expected to Pay the Same Council Tax, Rent, Energy Costs, Food Bills, Propery Maintenance, Insurance, Vehicle Costs and Funeral Costs. Or does being Elderly mean you have to Live in Poverty until you Die. And having to decide if you Heat or Eat and end your days in Debt to Energy Companies.

We also had MILLIONS of stay at home wives who didn't work or contribute for them to the RETIRE (I know ... from what) as soon as they got to the YOUNG age of 60. Millions of them then lived on into their 80s so 85 year old grandma has been given £10k a year for 25 years that comes to £250k yes thats QUARTER of a MILLION POUNDS ... so where has that money come from ... the MAGIC MONEY TREE???!!!
