Why
@MattPula
@MattPula Жыл бұрын
@@adhasky Because to me this feels like the "second-step" in this new era of modelers we now live in (first step arguably being the Neural QC) - I wouldn't be surprised if the next Helix looks/functions a lot like this. It's taken the innovations/features that things like the QC have done (pedal capturing, touch-screen UI, etc), and iterated/improved on things even further. Like the inclusion of Autotune is pretty huge, and Headrush has always been ahead of the curve with their user-interfaces. It's just nice to see these companies competing and pushing things forward, creating more powerful and versatile "workstations" like this.

Happy with Quad Cortex except they still haven't given you any of the features they promised at launch 3 years ago like desktop editor or the ability to use your previously purchased Neural DSP plugins and improving the cheap low quality power supply and the monthly amp model updates. all things they stated and used in marketing to sell the product and get pre orders yet failed to deliver on in all this time

@@svpmusic8140 You’re not wrong but I never needed a desktop editor and still don’t care about that. The ‘cheap’ power supply has served me well for many years and many gigs. The only thing I really dislike about the Headrush stull is the lack of a computer interface. When I used the Helix stuff I really liked being able to tweak in the computer and to use the plugin when recording. However, I tested the Headrush MX5 and really liked the sounds for what I do (Fender, Vox, mostly) to have more life to them than the Helix versions. I like the touch screen, but I wish it had even a rudimentary app when connected to the computer.
@satrian
@satrian Жыл бұрын
I used to have a Headrush pedalboard (the big one) and loved the sound of it. It is less "tweakeable" than other units but that was not a con for me. If any it's a pro since I got less "options paralysis". But eventually, the lack of a soft interface was a deal breaker for my personal use. I ended up selling it and buying a Helix LT. And while it has more bells and whistles, the audio quality is pretty much on par (IF you are willing to tweak a little... there's a point for the HR). But the game changer is the control soft and the easy-to-use USB interface (in the HR it was a nightmare).

While I understand your sentiment, and agree to an extent, I find myself doing everything I need to do on the touchscreen. I think if they do add an app it should be for an iPad and not a computer. It makes more sense to put the iPad nearby and use the larger screen. Overall, I don't think it's really necessary. This board has everything. The usability is incredible, the loaded features are god tier. The MAJOR downside is that the inbuilt amps that come with are exceptioanlly meh - to the point in this video where Ryan uses a cloned up for the mix sounds. The inbuilt amps, even through Headrush's own FRFR speaker sound incredibly processed. It's such a shame because EVERYTHING else is absolutely wonderful, but an inbuilt amp catalogue that barely rivals Podfarm is a hard no. EVERYONE making videos about the Prime is extolling the cloning process, but barely demonstrating the inbuilt pre-selections. I'm buying an all-in-one, would I have a stack of amps or pedals to clone, or a massive library of IRs? Headrush is relying on third-party inputs to make the Prime bounce ahead of the competition.

As a prior Headrush pedalboard owner I really don't get why they added an amp/pedal profiling option. If they had just updated the board with more of a calvalcade of amps/effects/cabs/ir's, more DSP processing power - a more cost effective solution would have been available with a reduced cost rather then a $1300 board.

How do you like the Tonex?
@thiagoborsari7364
@thiagoborsari7364 Жыл бұрын
@@MotownGuitarJoe Just for clarification, I bought the Tone X software and not the pedal. The Tone X pedal doesn't work for me for the simple reason that I own zero analog pedal, sold all of them when I decided for going 100% digital, and I have to relyon amplitude5 for effects. My experience with the tone x software has more downs than ups unfortunately, but I found an use for it that is changing the way I look at it, will explain later. Pros- it captures amazingly close if not exactly the same to the source. Downs- I have to pair it with amplitude 5 to build my tones and after 15 years messing around with guitar plug-ins I must confess that I hate them all. - I use Gibsons 50's wiring style on all my guitars including the non Gibson ones, and the tone x software can't respond to the volume/tone knobs roll off as a real amp or the kemper does. - The noise gate of the Tone X and of the amplitude 5 is just terrible. What I found messing around with the Tone X and the Kemper is that the Kemper can capture the tone X with the same results the tone X has while capturing real amps. So what I am doing is capturing the amazing tonex captures with my kemper stage. This way I get an much more accurate capture of an amp inside my kemper with amazing dynamic, playability, noise gate and effects that the kemper offers.

I currently still use the original Headrush pedalboard (a seasoned veteran if you will), and in the demos I've seen on the prime, the issue is the way they are going about switching. They were switching between entire "Rig's" mid song. I think it's just a bit of a lack of understanding about what can be done and the best way to do it. (like, would most people unplug their guitar from a rig on stage and then plug into an entirely different rig mid song?) The better way if you want tighter switching is to use scenes inside of the rig. I use 1 Rig per song, and then I have scenes set up to move through all the parts of the song. So something like Pull Me Under, I load the rig up at the start of the song (From all the songs I have arranged into a setlist for that night) and it starts off already with the Roland JC120 lots of chorus and reverb etc (acoustic modeler to give it a bit piezo feel), and then as soon as I press the assigned scene button it loads into the first scene change, which swaps out the JC120 for a Mesa Boogie MarkIIC+, with appropriate IR's, tighter delay and reverb, compressor at the start and end of the chain etc. Then I press the button again and it goes into a lead tone with more depth for the solo. And these switches happen as I press the button down, and virtually instantly (if you change between rigs, it actions on the release of the switch as well as has a bit of delay while it loads and unloads all the hardware that is assigned to the rig). \m/

@@Bubblegoose Thanks. That's helpful for sure. So in your rig, you just have the 2 amps and then use scenes to switch between them? So you're limited to what can be loaded in a single preset? Just trying to make sure I understand. Thanks for the info!
@Bubblegoose

@@misterringer No worries at all. In the rig I mentioned, I have an amp in a single slot, and with the scene I am changing that amp block's preset, not turning off an amp in one slot and turning another amp on in another slot. So with a scene, you can turn on or off a block, or change the preset. So this applies to other fx as well. With the intro the chorus is a lot wetter and more luscious, and the same with the delay. However when I go to the main sound, I still want chorus and delay, so with the scene, I am turning off the acoustic sim block, turning on a second compressor, turning off an EQ block, and I am changing the preset of the Amp block, the IR block( this doesn't just change IR's it also alters the Hi and Lo cut and the output volume), the delay block and the chorus block. I could for sure make a rig that is so complicated that switching via scenes is not possible, however In the real world I haven't run into any issues. And the prime looks like it has even more slots than the pedalboard I have. So it shouldn't be an issue at all.

How is the DSP capacity. I know you recently went away from Helix because of DSP limitations. Do you see yourself running out of DSP on this with a similar patch to what you use with the Axe FX stuff?

The original Headrush Pedalboard that came out in 2017 was a quad core processor that could run multiple instances of high DSP effects such as reverb. The little MX5 can run all Pedalboard rigs without modification so it too has high DSP headroom. The new Prime takes that up a notch. DSP power has always been a strength Headrush has over Line 6

The one thing I don't like about it is that it only has 1 stereo XLR out instead of 2 mono XLR Out so FOH can make EQ changes to guitar and vocals separately
@forthecreator1

It has L+R balanced 1/4” outputs AND L+R XLR outputs. Guitar can be sent in stereo out one set of outputs while vocals are sent in stereo out the other set of outputs. So it exceeds what you are asking for

I wonder if you can open a capture on a gig board or if it a different file type. That would be great to still be able to and just not be able to capture. The prime has way too much unnecessary stuff that most ppl don't need plus it's way too big

You mean reamping with the clone feature? Because the normal reamp is just set the reamp mode in the unit and connecting your tracks in your DAW. I say this from a MX5 POV but I guess it's the same.

But does it sound good? Are the effects great? The function is wonderful but if it doesn’t sound great it doesn’t matter. I had the MX5 and could never get great tone out of it, plus I found the HX stomp much more flexible. I know this is a new thing, but I’m sure a lot of it is built on the older thing.
