This anime was one of the greatest representations of artists I think I've ever seen, it made the concept of art and its meaning to each individual so special. The way it dived deep into self-discovery is so precious to be because that's what art was for me, it was a way for me to find myself and what I wanted to be. I'm really happy that this anime was made, it put art into the light it was supposed to be in.

Honestly, out of all the paintings and sketches he had done, I thought his first ever painting was the most beautiful one. It wasn’t perfect, yet he put in so much effort and passion into creating something he felt and saw, that raw emotion being laid it layer by layer in blue paint. He wasn’t good, heck, he probably never even cared for paintings until that very moment he picked up a paint brush. And that’s honestly so captivating. It reminded me of when I first got into art and many of artist’s finding out their passions. We sucked, but that first drawing, sketch, painting, sculpture, whatever, started our love and passion. I’m so happy that the anime creators actually made it so realistic and perfect.

This anime (among other factors) convinced me to return to college in my late twenties to pursue art, after several years jumping between jobs, long periods of unemployment and various health issues watching the development of Yaguchi and his colleagues develop their skills from different backgrounds, different starting points and different approaches was exactly what I needed to see. It gave me the confidence to acknowledge I can start from where I am right now and I'm excited to see where it will take me.

Read the manga. The anime felt so robotic. But the manga made it feel dramatic, fluid, and impactful. The manga makes it feel like the emotions being poured into the characters art is being poured into you, which is something I can't say about the anime.

I don't know how u manga guys are able to see motion in still images and then have the nerve to call the anime robotic. It's even more difficult to read a manga than the anime. Even so I'd prefer the light novel over the manga.

@@MisguidingWish You’re reading into it a little too literally. I watched the anime and then read the manga and I still think the manga was better. I think by robotic the OP means that the story felt less fluid and with less feeling. The manga presented the story in a more linear way and it felt like you understood the protagonist more. I am an artist who put off his passion bc I wasn't feeling like I was evolving and I slowly turned to be scared of drawing. Even today it takes me days until I convince myself to pick up the pencil and draw something, and they turn out better and better but I also get more and more scared of it. That being said, I watched the show and I don't think I stopped crying even once, during the whole binge, I just couldn't. My mind started to rush and I could feel myself experience the first time I ever picked up drawing, the satisfaction of creating my own expression through countless hours, sweat and tears coming through the white nights. My mind started to wander at my late grandfather who told me early on to not give up and become better and greater, to my peers with which I was competing and evolving, my sweet, sweet teachers who were pushing my vision and also restricting my work to break my creative cage. I might have not experienced everything this protagonist did, but I did exeprience fast change of vocation, the hard work that it entailed, burnoff and mindbending anguish at my failed works, I did experience the feeling of worthlessness when I didn't enter art uni. and when my close family started imediately to push me in another direction instead of encouraging me to continue, all these things came back to me like a thunderstorm after a typhoon setting my consciousness ablaze. This show is amazing, cannot wait for the next season. It's shows like these that make me happy in my decision to consume this medium. (Also as a sidenote, all the drawings in the show and manga are drawn by art students, not just the mangaka, so just keep this in mind when watching it, there's a lot to pull from them...)

As an artist Im honestly so grateful for the story of Blue Period (i say story in general coz apparently some people thought the anime is a miss while the manga is superior etc, but im speaking on regardless of what form of media you were introduced to the story). It gives so much insight on what it truly means to be an artist emotionally, mentally, and on a technical skill level, more than i initially thought it would when i heard about this interesting story about artists. Whether we like it or not, unfortunately art appreciation is still somewhat in the minority to the general public, people consume art every day without realizing and some forms have even become integral to daily life but some people still brush art off as being an irrational choice of career etc, some completely invalidate and underestimate it as something easy to do and try and take advantage of art, artists and what we try to stand for. It was nice to have a story about artists, for artists, but also presented in a way to help non artists understand. I know the anime has been criticized by manga readers and Im totally going to read it next, but still watching Blue Period made me cry so much. I don't speak for all artists ofc, but for me at least, it made me feel heard.

This was such a high quality slice of life Anime. All the core concepts and their depictions are so honest and down to earth and the characters are actually likeable and supporting each other.

To me this anime was a roller coaster of emotions. As a teenager who's deep into arts since forever I can totally see myself in that story. It described every single emotion I've felt and made me realise that I'm not ready for the world after finishing school. Finally I really felt attached to the characters and situations and it somehow prepared me for my future in the world of arts. Totally recommend it with a straight 10/10.

9/10. Very different story line, more realistic and relatable than most of the action and ambitious adventure story lines out there. I watched this at a stage in life where I needed to get ahead and over of the downtime i was in and this definitely inspired me to become more me.

The writing and the characters are so well done! I recently watched it and it was enjoyable and quite relatable to me since I also like art. I think the only bad thing about this show is the English Dub, the voice actors sound like they're speaking through a Walkie-Talkie or a Radio. But overall I love this anime and it really shows themes that are relatable to other people.

I think it is an 9.5/10 it’s a gorgeous anime that really shows the change a person can go through and the determination. I think the art was gorgeous, and I learned a bit myself. The only thing I think is wrong is that it was so short I wish it dragged on a little longer, but it was worth watching definitely!

As a first year mathematics student, this anime hit me so hard in the feels. In high school i didn't bother to study hard in general, then in my last high school year i encountered this student who passionately did maths everyday. Being the competitive person i was, i started treating math exams as a battle against him and i was even happy because i was actually the smartest student at maths and physics along with him in my school year. But after high school we got into different unis, due to the separation i lost my drive. Added that to the mental health issues that i developed in my early high school years, it became so hard just to take a pen to write an equation. Now i don't feel the joy of mathematics as i used to before and am very blocked mentally to start studying. I feel like an imposter trying to impose as a genius. My mental health isn't improving but i manage to live functionally due to my active lifesfyle which includes intense physical workouts. I feel like i am just below average person at my uni and it depresses me even more. Seeing yaguchi struggling and overcoming his difficulties motivated me to start trying. Even though i still have to take the first step, i now have a little bit motivation thanks to this anime. Even if i am not an artist, i still relate to yaguchi a lot due to my present circumstances and my personal view. If it weren't for this anime, i would have fallen into depression again.

I've been doing creative stuff my whole life, from dancing when I was 5, to painting, 3d design, art Academy, whatever and it's always been interesting to observe how the transition looks like for people that never had any interest in art before. They usually end up being way more enthusiastic and involved in that world than someone who's grown up in it. I'm gonna watch this for sure!
