Been dealing with heartburn acid/reflux for 10+ years. I've had the tests done. There is no structural abnormality. Lately been waking up in the middle of the night with horrible heartburn and pain. Why would it do that while I sleep? When I'm not even conscious? Thank you for taking your time making these videos for people. It means a lot to those of us who need the message.

Yes the unconscious is in complete control at night. If you think of heartburn reflux from an emotional TMS angle it sounds like anger as that emotion feels that way in the body (burning etc)

I know I'm prone to neuroplastic pain (40 yrs). It has taught me to be "careful." To "go slow." In other words, to avoid using my body because of fear of causing pain. Now as I'm learning it's harmless and emotionally based, I know I need to get my body moving. Those muscles and tendons that aren't used to stretching and working, how do I recondition them at age 70?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
That’s right Donna that is correct. Yeah just start using them slowly and steadily a greater gradual approach. I like to say be consistent and persistent and building yourself up just like anybody else would. you have to think of yourself as normal even if you get symptoms

Hi Jim! You are such a great help! Question! Positional vertigo: spinning when lying on the right side, I’ve been told it’s crystals in the ear. The Epley helps but it has returned. Is this TMS related?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
It could be if it’s not the crystals I think you just need to rule out the structural first. usually with that type of thing it should go away with the Epley physical maneuvers. If it doesn’t and you’ve had a history of stress then it’s likely to be TMS

Hi Jim my name is Jimmy. I've been having debilitating repetitive strain issues that started in July. It's so distressful that I'm having suicidal ideation and depression over it. I've been studying TMS from the very beginning even before this started with other issues I was having. Normal EMG EKG wrist MRIs weren't nothing too crazy slight ligament tear in the left. I felt like I almost had it beat and then I went back to doing some things that I thought caused this and it made it so much worse. I haven't grown close to getting back to that place where I was again yet. I'm getting more MRIs in December of my forearm. At that point I guess I'll be in the boat where the doctors can't find anything wrong. It acts so much like structural pain but I'm still trying to hang on to the TMS diagnosis but obviously I'm not convinced. I'm seeing a TMS therapist too, sadly I'm probably going to have to stop seeing for a while until I can actually get on board 100% with the diagnosis of TMS. The physical therapist I'm going to in Western PA actually had a TMS therapist that they use and he's also a PT. I just really wanted your opinion on what you think about this I have so many symptoms I won't even begin to list them here. And I don't even like to speak about them but I would if I needed to of course to doctors or physical therapists etc. I don't want to give up on TMS but I have to get out of this Doom and gloom and distress of thinking my hands are ruined. Anywhere you could help me or point me in any direction where I could have encouragement or anything else you think could help I would greatly appreciate it. I've read my body prescription healing back pain multiple times I've listened to Alan Gordon the way out probably a hundred times every day every night. My pain just act so structural but it's also weird because it's bilateral so I don't know what to do I can't call it man. Again anything you could do to point me in the right direction or if you think I should keep seeking the medical route please let me know it would be greatly appreciated. And if you need any more information just ask any questions 🙏🏽

Once you ruled out structure then move over to the TMS world and stay there. You can still have pain doing physical things, but it doesn’t mean that what you’re doing is the primary cause of the pain. It’s kind of like eating a certain food when you have a food sensitivity the food is not the problem it’s the system in the way of processes the food. Number one you got to believe it’s TMS based on the real evidence you have gathered from your case number two if it is then practice non-reaction to the symptoms. Number three move towards stress and emotions and focus on those things in your mind to try to reconcile them.

I hear that RA is structural but the nervous system controls the immune system so surely it stems from the same thing? I’d love your thoughts as I’m approaching it as TMS. Nothing else works including biologics so there has to be more to it. 😊
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
Yeah the brain and nervous system are the controller of everything since they have innervation to all systems in the body. So if you keep going upstream you’ll find that the brain regulates the immune system

Now that I have an understanding of it being harmless it does help but unraveled another level of it being distracting and does not allow me to focus on my daily tasks. The brain fog, tension, and blurry vision that accompany it make me want to push it away and the creates more of it.
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
Yeah don’t push it away you just want to identify it as being emotional see if you can find out how you’re feeling. Remember your feelings are harmless but can cause very real debilitating symptoms just like an anxiety attack sending a person to the hospital thinking they’re having a heart attack

I have not been diagnosed with chronic dizziness yet. But I had a major panic attack back in July after my mom passed away suddenly and i found her and had to start cpr. I had anxiety that something was wrong with my heart. All tests showed it was normal. During all of this my body felt like it was rocking to my heart rate. Have no room spinning sensation. I have great balance. Just this rocking sensation. More when I am still I can feel it. I am seeing a trauma counselor, doing meditation, deep breathing, some exercise, spending time outside, going to work al doing all things I used to. Especially traveling. But this sensation remains as well as other physical symptoms from anxiety/trauma. Had my eyes checked and all was normal. I did not look into telling my doctor about it because I felt that it was from the trauma/anxiety/fear. I am ready to feel normal again!!

Recently found your channel and finding it very helpful 🙂 Is there anyway to teach my brain that my muscles spasms are harmless when the spasms are so severe they pull my jaw out so I can't eat or talk. I'm finding it so hard to convince myself that these spasms are harmless. Thank you
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
As long as you know there’s not a structural problem in your face or jaw the signaling to do that is coming from your brain. A lot of times clenched or tight jaw muscles is indicating the emotion of anger. Because that is one of the biological pathways of where it goes.

Jim are tight Psaos and ql muscles TMS. My physio has told me that’s the cause of my back and hip pain. He has told me to stretch and strengthen, Pilates and walking and don’t concentrate on them. It’s as a result of an accident 5 years ago and I have never let them relax and I have had a lot of anxiety and fear since then. Thanks
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
Was it a traumatic or bad accident? The brain can still be signaling overprotection in the form of tightness as a guarding response in your muscles. So yes it can be TMS- likely fear from what it sounds

Hey Jim. Since January Iv had some pretty insane symptoms mostly in my legs. It started out after starting a new job which I figured was pretty strenuous. Firstly my legs just felt exhausted and tired like I couldn’t walk. Than to. Burning heat sensation as if someone put a hot blanket over my legs. Than muscle twitches in the calf and thigh muscles started. They are even visible looking at my skin you can see the muscles vibrating at times. Than the last few months Iv been feeling almost like a growing pain sensation in the muscles. Usually my lower leg between knee and ankle. The pain sometimes can be so bad. Last night heating pad and Tylenol helped I get better. I. Had an emg at neurologist on my right leg which was normal, lower back mri normal blood tests showed slightly elevated ck level which indicates some kind of muscle damage or injury but none of this started with an injury. I just felt over worked in February at a new job and the symptoms slowly started. I. Had chronic neck pain that I healed from using sarno a few years ago and I’m highly anxious person with history of anxiety. What are your thoughts? It’s literally all I think about, my leg symptoms and I can’t shake it especially seeing the high ck levels.

@@thepainpt thanks Jim. I guess the hardest part is knowing for sure that this is tms and not a muscular disorder or something wrong with my muscles. I noticed it does switch sides from left to right which is evidence it could be tms but I guess I just need to be 100pct convinced. It’s just so damn painful and uncomfortable.

I am Perfect Peace and Healthy! I am Okay! This takes a lot of repitition. It takes awhile to make the changes in neuro pathways to and in your brain. You didn’t just get into a car and drive. It takes learning and some time and repitition.

Yes, harmless. But aside from that it CAN stop us from doing things, like with having severe cramps you don't just go for a walk. We would first have to stop the symptoms with TMS knowledge and work.

@@jossjekraayvanger7131 Yes..I understand. There are things I don’t do yet..but I tell myself that I am Okay! Just like you don’t drive until you get a lisence! But you have to make the pathways. Maybe it is better to compare it to learning something new..like a toddler learning to walk. He doesn’t just stand up and walk..it takes belief that he can walk.
@thepainpt
@thepainpt Жыл бұрын
Yeah the idea is that you lean into symptoms as much as you can with using the TMS knowledge and approach to handling them and that way you start the teach the brain that you’re fine even in the midst of symptoms. We can’t lose sight it’s emotional reactions from a sensitized brain showing up in your body. We are trying to keep the prefrontal cortex online to handle these emotional reactions so they don’t worry us too much or overwhelm us (hijack).that is part of the work to wrestle back control you are in control not your symptoms/emotions. Keep going it’s a process for many!

Very curious to get your opinion on thoracic outlet syndrome given you are a PT but also well versed in TMS. From what I have read people who have surgery for TOS show that 85% due not seen any improvement. Up until my TOS diagnosis I really believed my pain was as a result of TMS as I fit the personality traits, childhood trauma, extremely stressful job and the loss of 2 close people. Do you believe TOS should be treated the same way we treat TMS? BTW love your approach and videos - thank you!!

Yes absolutely typically it is TMS unless there’s a very specific nerve entrapment which is very unusual. One person you can reach out to his Eddie Lindenstein n he runs a podcast he got over thoracic outlet syndrome using this approach
