I’m a high handicap golfer and can definitely vouch for the effectiveness of using chapstick. I’ve been practicing 5 days a week in a hitting bay at a local golf store. Using chapstick on the driver’s face reduces the spin rate approximately 25-30% for me, which translates into 10-15 more yards.

I remember reading in a book when I was a kid, golf hustlers (at least in the US) used to coat their drivers with a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline), under the logic that it kept the ball in contact with the clubface for a slightly longer time and would slow down spin as the ball would be held in place relative to the clubface longer, resulting in longer, straighter drives. This seems like a modernization of that hustle.
@GreenDistantStar3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Titanic Thompson and Ray Floyd have talked about this. I have an idea the Vaseline thing has been tested and failed, there might be a YT clip about it. Maybe this stuff is more than just faux petroleum jelly. Add a Polara ball and you're straight all day.

As a caddie at Oak Hill, when carrying a single, I always carried bubblegum so that the unfortunate getting hustled could press the match when I hit the driver with b-gum stickum on dogleg left and sweat from my forehead for dogleg right. Worked invariably on later holes to give my player an up w/o even knowing, as his hustling competitor was waning from late round fatigue. Reminded my player that if he chose me to caddie he'd have a memorable round. Only way I got to caddie.

I was skeptical after watching this last night 12/14/21. I was to play a round of golf with my dad today whose 84 years young and friend of his. I haven’t been able to play since April due to a elbow injury (golf related). We’re on #1 tee box and start thinking that I may have some spf 30 lip balm in my bag… I did. I decided to rub it on the face of my driver without telling anyone. I drove the ball straight down the fairway. I can occasionally do that so I didn’t mention anything. Hole 2 same thing. Hole 3 is a par 3. Hole 4 I add a little more balm and again straight down the fairway. Dad was slicing a bit. So I told them both what I had been doing. So hole 5 we all have this lip balm on our drivers. All hit straight…. I’m not joking. We kept using it all day and I used it on my 3 wood with excellent results. After 18 holes I sliced 0 drives..😳 only our friend hit 2 slices but he said when he would normally swing like he did the slice would be ridiculous. These were not terrible slices he hit. My best round ever today 84. I took a stupid 8 on hole 18 par 5 488 yards. Beautiful drive and excellent 3 wood to be 90 yards from the green and then totally fall apart. I’ve never ever hit 18 holes without my normal 6-7 slices. Not sure I will buy the stuff you’re reviewing because this lip balm I think worked amazing..

It definitely works. It reduces backspin as well as sidespin. The real trick is to loft up about 1-2 degrees from where you normally play. You will hit absolute bombs! If you dont loft up you will hit knukleballs that fall out of the sky too early. I've never used slic stic, but I used to use Dr Scholls foot spray as a type of impact tape on the driving range. Never used it on course, but it was fun to mess with on the range.
@mikejaros7526 Жыл бұрын
What do you mean loft up?

@@mikejaros7526 I mean play more loft then you typically would play on your driver. If you normally play a 9.5 degree, then when you put the slic stic on the face you would need to play 10.5 or 11.5 degrees in order to get enough launch and backspin on the ball for it to fly optimally.
