What impact will UNRWA funding cuts have on Gaza? Marc Lamont Hill speaks to UN Special Rapporteur, Francesca Albanese.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is worsening with more than 26,000 Gaza Palestinians killed and another 1.7 million displaced since October 7th.
At least a dozen countries have announced they will be suspending funds for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) after Israel accused 12 of the agency’s employees of participating in the October 7th attacks.
UNRWA has been a crucial provider of humanitarian aid in Gaza, so why, during a time of crisis and based only on allegations, have countries pulled their funding? What will happen to civilians who depend on the agency for survival?
On UpFront this week, Marc Lamont Hill talks to the UN's special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, on the impending consequences of UNWRA’s funding cuts.

Exactly , no such a low of return apply to any refugee in the whole world , so why is it perpetuated by UNRWA for millions of Arab when in reality there is only about 20 to 30 thousand real refugees left around the world . It is the other way around. UNRWA gives money to Hamas. UNRWA launders money from the outside world going into Hamas. So Qatar and Iran give money to UN officials for favors and support. UN officials siphon money from member nations and allocates some of it to UNRWA who then gives it to Hamas. Of course UN officials also give themselves raises and obscene salaries on top of accepting terrorist bribes.

In 2022, UNRWA received 1.1 billion USD. USA donated 338 million, Germany 176 million, EU 117million. Sweden, Japan, UK are also top contributors. Other notable donations are: qatar 17 million, Kuwait 11.5 million, Jordan 7 million, syria 460k, lebanon 447k, egypt 20k, pakistan 13k, and the lowest Monaco 3.2k.

But Western countries are in no position to determine when that is considering we exploited our way to the top and left mass graves in our wake. Here in North America, ask any First Nation how self-sufficient we were. Ask Central America about how fairly they were treated by US Fruit (the predecessor to Chiquita). Ask Africa about blood diamonds or cobalt mining and who bought those resources? Ask India about how well North American companies pay their call centre employees and what benefits they get? Ask China about its child labour policy and who buys those products? Ask the Chinese people about how well-treated they are in Apple factories. Would it live up to Western standards? No. But the truth is, Western standards are hypocritical at best, an oxymoron at worst. Would I prefer to live somewhere else? No, but that's because being at the top of the food chain has its advantages, not because I (or anyone else) deserve to be here. Where you're born is a complete random luck bonus (or penalty) based on when in history you live. I happen to have rolled a very nice location. But unlike others who got the same roll, I'm aware it's luck, not hard work that got me in THIS location. And, more importantly, I don't begrudge people who got a worse roll needing help.

The UN administration shouldn’t lament the withdrawal of donor funds. If their concern for civilians in Gaza is genuine, they should allocate funds from their own resources to support UNRWA or reduce their salaries for four months to address the needs of civilians in Gaza. However, it’s questionable whether they would take such steps, as their motivation seems more focused on personal financial gain than genuine care for Palestinians.

Germany announced some big ticket items for Gaza this morning, including medical teams to assist in Gaza. A J will not tell you that, but the Arab News website will.
