The sense of scale being shown in this trailer shows what a great eye Denis Villeneuve has, the Sardaukar warriors on the battlefield look truly miniscule, and there's so many warriors but unlike Rise of Skywalker we actually have a sense of the environment and the soldiers have so many different movements, great crowd simulation. just love how much of a war movie this is turning out to be, something which Lynch wasn't able to do or afford, this is so much bigger than I could even image in the book. It has that LOTR Return of the King vibe of competent CGI filmmaking of a large battle, something we've sorely missed more recently.

I think as far as seeing a Navigator goes - we've seen them already. They were walking off the ship next to the Herald in the first film - they had the mist-filled helmets. Something tells me that is how Denis wants them depicted, since he's focusing on this being a human story.
@stevehunter2436 Жыл бұрын
Sounds right. in the first film the Guild heighliner shows a planet on the other end of the cylinder. That makes it look more like a portal between places in space rather than the heighliner moving by folding space. Being in one place then being in another. While both trailers are exciting the thrill will be in the theater when the things we are not being shown are brought to life.
@fruitygarlic3601 Жыл бұрын
You may be onto something. There is a risk that the Navigators and Face Dancers will be misconstrued as aliens, no matter how many times it is explained that they are human. If Villeneuve is adapting Dune Messiah, he may want to introduce the Navigators gradually. A Navigator suspended in a tank may be a privileged sight.

No way it’s better than the book haha, but the first movie was great nonetheless! The original Dune book series is focused greatly on internal struggles, challenging ideas, and mental conflicts, so any broadly marketable film adaptation can only be an approximation or a re-imagining of the material, which strikes me as why it is so difficult to adapt well. Dumb it down too much and you lose the core audience. Stick too close to the spirit of the books and you lose the broader audience. This is why I consider Villneuve’s (sp?) work to be so impressive as he didn’t alienate anyone.

@thebendu33 The David Lynch version was 💩. He's pretty much admitted that himself. But Denis' version will finally do as much justice to the book as any film version could. And perhaps improve on it in a few ways. I do like his departure from Herbert's in the physical appearance of the Harkonnens. I think the bald aesthetic looks totally badass. Especially with Feyd Rautha. I could see Austin Butler possibly at least getting an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor out of his portrayal. He looks dangerous. He looks psycho, and seems totally convincing in this role. I DO think like Quinn that it would be really cool to see that glowing furnace effect inside the sandworms.

2 bad that even Villeneuve thought it necessary to change things from the book. Like race and gender swapping kynes, making harkonnens bald, making jessica a fighter and chani more prominent.
@Emanon... Жыл бұрын
That's a par for the course in any adaptation. The greatest 2 adaptations imho are LotR and Starship Troopers: For LotR, I was gutted that Bombadil and Glorfindel, the Scouring etc was left out. But now I realise that it was unnecessary bloat and filler to an already great story. For Starship Troopers, they took the unproven fascist preaching of Heinlein and turned it upside down into a satire, which made it infinitely more thoughtful and enjoyable than the incessant civics lessons in the book. Again, just an opinion.
@origami83 Жыл бұрын
@@Emanon... Cutting bloat to make a story more fit for screen adaptation is one thing. Changing characters to fit a certian narrative is another, imo. For example, kynes was a man but i dont think the book mentioned his skincolor. So making him black wouldnt change anything, but also making him a women doesnt make sense and goes against the book. However iam happy it is all confined to minor details and for me it doesnt affect the movie much.

I don't even mind that they switched Kynes... He's a catalyst character sure, but ultimately little screen time. Everyone/everything else was so well cast and portrayed that I let that one slide. While I agree because in the book he was supposed to be over 80 but looking only 35, I think I can get over it for everything else.

Hey, fantastic Video as always, but one thing that I always asked myself was.. Why didn’t the Fremen use that „desert power“ before Pauls arrival? I mean they had all the resources, all the knowledge.. They could have rode those sandworms against the Harkonnens decades ago.
@origami83 Жыл бұрын
I got another one for you. Despite fremen being awesome desert warriors, how can they conquer the universe having no spaceships, no experience in spacecombat, have no other knowledge than what they learned on arrakis. Put fremen on caladan and they get their ass whooped in no time.
@CleverGirlAAH Жыл бұрын
@@origami83 "Here on Caladan, we've ruled by air power and sea power. On Arrakis we need to cultivate desert power." Yeah, weird to think that that desert power functions... anywhere else. I suppose they're just meant to be unmatched and are backed by prescience from Paul. [[to be fair I dont think those words were used in the book, exactly]]
@origami83 Жыл бұрын
@@CleverGirlAAH I think you are right and that is what its supposed to mean. I hope we some great battle scenes to show what makes fremen so dangerous. For now, we mostly been told they are dangerous, not shown.

There WERE guild navigators in their fish tanks in the first move & some of the additional scenes on the blue ray disk.
@QuinnsIdeas Жыл бұрын
Those were certainly members of the guild and perhaps pre-navigator candidates, but true guild navigators swim in large tanks and have webbed hands and feet.

A point that shocked me in the trailer was that scene where ornithopters attack a sietch and destroy what seemed as a Fremen reservoir. I hope this means we will see a bit more of Kynes vision for Arrakis. Great Video!

Being raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, attending mass in my childhood, the bell in the initial moments of the trailer brought back memories of the Eucharist. It echoed the solemnity of a small bell ringing in the church, signifying a profound moment of change - perhaps the most effective use of music to encapsulate a movie's plot.

The new trailer looks great. Like the first movie, it looks like a montage of the imagery I had in my head while reading the novel... _except_ for Zendaya as Chani. She's _woefully_ miscast and stands out as the only Fremen without an accent.

@GuineaPigEveryday Жыл бұрын
well its like Keanu in Bram Stoker's Dracula, you need the really big name to draw general audiences in, to convince investors and studio execs, and actually make this movie profitable, even if it is miscast ultimately. I don't love her casting but then again Sean Young was not much better, there's no one i can really think of off the top of my head who else they'd get. Maybe if they were more willing to lean towards the Arabic/Tuareg/Algerian-Freedom-Fighter angle the book was clearly inspired by, Sofia Boutella, May Calamawy, Alia Shawkat are way too old. Not saying it has to be someone Arabic or anything, it would just make a lot of sense in terms of the Fremen-inspiration, they don't seem to have many Fremen characters in the first place cast here. Anyways Zendaya has at least the physique and romantic element needed for Chani, who is largely under-utilised in the book too as a character, I mean seriously untill Messiah she doesn't do very much from what I remember.
@charlesparr1611 Жыл бұрын
miscast? What's wrong with the choice? She has lines, she says them, the character is portrayed.... There is nothing off about her work that I can see. Please enlighten us?

So we're pretending her mom Liet didn't speak without an accent? Jamis didn't have one either so it seems like you're nitpicking over nothing.

So if Paul just went dormant, and let the Harkonnen squeeze the planet and kill all the Fremen, that might've led to a happier outcome for the universe at large?
