Mother Superior’s vision gave me chills considering what it implies and WHO she sees. As she’s dying, she sees a worm devouring kingdoms, bloodshed & finally two piercing blue eyes staring out of the darkness of space and time. Then the sisters speak of Arafel & judgement by a Tyrant. Paul’s ‘terrible reign’ occurs because the jihad in which Paul’s Feydakin warriors kill 60 billion is actually a necessary component of the golden path. I like the idea that Desmond is a ghola, especially with his display of breaking the lizard bot, it could be a misdirect of "he's the real machine". If he's a face dancer however, I wonder if early versions have some kind of gland that releases an irritant through their pores? That "slip" in the Bene Gesserit practices could lead to them incorporating more physiological training like enhancing senses of smell and sight to identify them. Another thought that I had was that the weapon is nanotech based and that it's the first iteration of a hunter seeker? Then it would only be later on that the flying poison dart versions get created.

@gtheavyy8543Ай бұрын
I like the theory that Desmond is a ghola, the more I look the more signs I see: - Truthsayer evaluates that "he is speaking the truth... or at least he believes it to be the truth" - alluding that the memory might be artificial - He speaks about being "reborn, different". It's possible that it's not the worm he describes, it's the Axolotl tank - and BT conditioning confused him into believing the memory was the worm - He questions why "only the Great Houses profit from spice". Bene Tleilax is not a house. - Tleilaxu eyes! There's stories that they enslave the user. They also might contain some microwave tech that cooked the boy. Desmond's eyes do appear to be a bit strange, and twitchy during the scene. - He seems religious and believes in forces that extend beyond man. Tleilaxu is the only Dune faction I know that actually was genuinely religious. All of this setup hints towards a Tleilaxu infiltration attempt, with an aim to legitimize their standing in the Imperium. It appears that Great Houses have monopolized control over everything and the other factions are not so happy about it. If we go in this direction, maybe we will even arrive at project Amal in a future season? (or maybe even later in this one)

The action at a distance part (death of Kasha) was the only concrete part that bothered me. The more abstract parts (the blue lights in the dark, etc.) can still be anything). Seeing the BG as not-yet-the-latter-day-BG was interesting to see. They're emotional, they're uncontrolled, they're far less stoic overall than they are as they appear in Hereitcs and Chapterhouse. In Frank Herbert's Dune saga, the technocrats of planet Ix make a significant rise to power and contribute greatly to the technology of the Duniverse. With Denis Villeneuve's adaptation on its way, I've been exploring the characters, organizations and elements that make up this fascinating universe. It is expected that Ixians would not give up their technological superiority and benefits that come from it. The dominance of the Space Guild due to an exaggerated decision to ban even computers, not only AIs, was likely to cause great dissatisfaction. I'd expect a black market to be created to allow computer assisted space travel and independence from the Space Guild. All would work under great risk, off course. It would be great to have a TV series explorer the many facets of the Dune universe. I love this idea so much! The Ixians are such a cool part of the Dune universe, and you’re totally right about their role in pushing tech boundaries, even with the Butlerian Jihad’s strict rules. The idea of a black market for computer-assisted space travel is amazing-like, how long could the Space Guild really keep total control? It makes so much sense that people would risk it to get around the Guild’s monopoly. A TV show about Ix’s secret labs and shady deals for forbidden tech would be awesome! Just think about the tension between the Guild and the Ixians and the big moral questions around tech that could change the Imperium’s power. Quinn... Thanks for sharing this awesome thought-here’s hoping we get more Dune on screen soon!

Something is definitely very strange and yet very fascinating about Travis Fimmel's character Desmond Hart, but I have a different theory. We saw the Emperor watch the video footage of the sandworm attack where Hart basically waits to be consumed. Can anyone really survive that? I agree that no, he DIDN'T survive... but he could be replaced. It's way too fast for a Ghola to be grown, but Hart could be a Tleilaxu face dancer. I don't think he used Ixian technology when the Tlielaxu know so much about exotic poisons that could make flesh burn. It's known from the lore that Bene Gesserit Reverend Mothers can detect a face dancer (shapeshifters) by it's pheromones, but what if this is the first face dancer they have encountered? They are mentioned in Children of Dune, but when did they first appear? It would be interesting to see HOW Reverend Mother's learn how to be able to detect them.

I think the way the guild navigator says "Richese" in Dune(1984) is the best. "Many machines on IX. New Machines. Better than those on Richese."

To be honest I hard about the show hours before the first episode and after hearing it was based on a Brian Herbert novel my expectations were a tad low, but just wow, even in just this one episode my expectations were totally shattered. Now I will be following this show religiously. In just the first episode there were so many jaw dropping moments that I have high hopes for what is to come.
@boat1280Ай бұрын
I was really pleasantly surprised as someone who hates Brian’s Dune stuff. I do think he genuinely loves his father’s work, even if he has failed at continuing it imo. But it’s not a crime to be a poorer writer than Frank Herbert so I wanted to give this a chance and so far I’m glad I did I feel like that love of the universe really shines through in this. I feel like it’s being made with respect, whether it’s good or not, and that counts for something for me.
@mikehall7189Ай бұрын
Hart seemed to be trying to fight some sort of programming when Pruwett Richese was dying,just like Duncan Ghola did successfully, eventually. This adds more weight and credence to the theory of Hart being a Ghola.
@danielhavens8819Ай бұрын
so far the only thing that bothers me is a lack of subtlety and subtext in the dialog. most of the time characters are just saying very obvious stuff, things other characters should already know, exactly how they feel about the situation, etc. Dune should be as subtle as it gets, nobody ever gives away their true thoughts. but they might just be being a bit more heavy handed for the pilot, to get things set up. other than that I really like the direction they're going in, especially with the visual aspects. if they tighten up the writing it could be great but if it stays like this or gets worse it could fall apart imo
@YarblocosifiliticoАй бұрын
Agreed. I fear it will be the later and fall apart, but I'm gonna give it a chance for sure
@NakulKrishnaАй бұрын
Yeah, they just can’t bring the gravitas that Denis’ vision brings. I expected more but the actors don’t have the weight they should and aren’t interesting enough to feel invested in or even remember, Travis is probably the best in terms of that mysterious aspect and even in his delivery. Valia for me is a very weak protagonist? Not sure who is the main character of this show but it all seems like they aren’t as clear as Denis is with what he’s trying to show. Lore guys might be digging it more but I see a lack of quality overall that I can’t ignore.

As far as prescience, Duke Richese says to the emperor the spacing guild navigator's mantra "the spice must flow" which means that the guild was established (founded by Norma Cenva) and consuming mass quantities to evolve into third stage navigators. The Bene Gesserit would also have availability and access of spice to develop "the seeing eye" and experience the matrilineal ancestral memories.

Great review and my favorite Dune youtube channel - Your passion and deep understanding of the Dune universe is clearly on display. I do agree, there is probably a hand behind Desmond Hart"s role in this series. In true Dune form, a plot within a plot within a plot. Having read all of the original Frank and subsequent Brian Herbert books, my initial impressions of episode 1 was not as optimistic nor enjoyable as your experience. I absolutely enjoyed Denis's and David Lynch's on screen adaptions, but there's something "stylistically" different (and not to my favor thus far). The pacing seems to be moving (too) fast, the characters seem closer to caricatures and the show seems to be relying on explicit dialogue rather than mood/scene/story development for its character development. Perhaps this is just EP1 laying out the foundation for less familiar fans, but we'll see what's to come for the season.
