It would have looked very odd if they took him, but left the Princess, so impersonating the guard was an improvisation. @@delbertbowers221 Everyone believed Desmond's ability to burn a person from the inside out was connected to him being swallowed and ejected by the sandworm. This was rooted in the fact that the Shai-Hulud has some sort of furnace burning deep within. Come to find out, his power is actually a product of a machine implanting a device in his eye. The worm memory in his mind was necessary to trigger a deeply rooted inescapable fear in Desmond, which the virus feeds off of. The eye device then allows him to transfer that same virus onto another through their own fear. Even in the drawings the sisterhood created in their nightmare state, Tula & Sister Avila both believed it was the eye of Shai-Hulud staring at them, but that was a deliberate illusion and ended up being the lights from the machine. Why did Theodosia disguise herself as the princess? At first it seemed like she was gonna take her place, but then she transformed into a random guard just to stab Desmond. Also, why does Dorothea know about the dead bodies? She was dead at that point and no one in her line witnessed it (not to mention it makes no sense for her to remember her own death since she had passed down her DNA long before that)

I really don’t think that was their intention. For multiple reasons. The eyes of Ibad don’t glow, and the bigger reason being that the eyes were always accompanied by a mechanical/robotic voice. Why would Paul, Leto, or any human sound like that? It’s even possible that they chose to include the robotic voice EVERY time to intentionally make it clear that it wasn’t Leto or Paul. Personally, never bought into the theory because of the sound. But it would’ve been cool if it was Leto, admittedly. Edit: Also, the recurring nightmare/vision was from the POV of Desmond. How would Desmond have seen Leto’s eyes? Unless he is prescient I guess, but everything else in the vision was what he literally saw. Awake, with his eyes open, without prescience.

@DenizBVD-oy6zi Pretty sure that faction are less Dorothea's followers and more direct followers of the Orange Catholic Bible. The girl leading that faction keeps reading from what appears to be a Bible of some kind. As far as Valya and Tula not having more supporters, a lot of sisters were shown leaving out of fear and this is still early in the sisterhood founding and the level of control on sisters and acolytes wasn't as strict. The BG we see 10k years later would have shut all this down, we are seeing WHY they adopted a lot of their strategies here.

Huh, I'm not sure really. Alia's abomination plot really kicks in with book 3, in book 2 she's not possessed by anybody, she simply has a really hard time forming her own ego because of how she's been swiming along with all these other personalities since birth, and she notably shares a particular bond with her mother of course, and sometimes conflict her feelings towards some people with hers - like how when she thinks of Leto, she can feel her mother's love for him instead. Plus it's really there to link in with Hayt/Duncan's shared conflicted personnalities. If anything, introducing stuff like face dancing before Messiah is a bit of a shame for non book readers who won't get to have to this new cool concept introduced in the movie - 'specially since in the show Theo really doesn't get to do much with it, while it's gonna be central to the plot of Messiah. Messiah overall introduces like, way way less stuff than book 1, so it's not like movie goers will be overwhelmed by new concepts methinks. Plus the first movies were already good at focusing on particular aspects instead of delivering the whole package as to not overwhelm viewers and get their message across loud and clear.

The original plan only worked if everything was seamless. An escaped Kieran would've triggered a castle-wide search, risking their capture. At this point, Valya and Theodosia wordlessly abandon the original plan and Theo decides to make the sacrifice play.

The thing with Theodosia was supposed to be that they put her up in the suspensor prison with Kieran so that everyone would think Ynez is still there and it's just that Valya escaped, but then when Ynez won't leave without Kieran it bungles that plan because that'll make it very obvious that something's going on. They still could've maybe put Theodosia up there anyways and pretended Kieran and Valya left her behind, but idk it seems like a fair enough call to me to try to go for the kill on Desmond

Your thing about the acolyte being ynez first but later just became a guard, confusing the primary thing is because originally valya wanted her to replace Ynez in the suspensor cell but when Ynez says she wants the Atreides to go as well, that would look as if valya only took atreides but not Ynez (If the acolyte just stayed as Ynez), leading to suspicion in the Imperius about why she would just take atreides and not Ynez as well. Hence, Valya then said i wont be able to save you hinting the changing to guard hoping the stab might kill Desmond or just buy her some time.

This is how you do flashbacks, intertwined within the narrative of longer episodes, rather than dedicating full episodes just to that. I too enjoyed this episode quite a lot and also completely agree on the commentary on the part about turning Theodosia into Ynez and instead ending up as the guard, the only explanation I can find is that Valya didn't expect to be forced and free also the Atreides and that changed her plan?
@zackswanson71887 сағат бұрын
The facedancer acolyte plan got changed. She was going to be Inez in a plan that got scrapped. There are moments where valya asks the acolyte if she is sure she wants to go forward with the plan b. That's when the soldier plan happens.

We're taking it for granted that Desmond's memory of the worm devouring him is 100% accurate and genuine. What if that may not necessarily be the case? Even if Valya is seeing it as his memory, could it not be possible as an implanted/false memory if Desmond is unaware of it. In a prior episode, if I'm not mistaken, the worm ate him at night, but in this episode, it happened during the day, so I think it might be unreliable as a measure of what really happened to him.

Re Theodosia. I think the original plan was to have Theodosia pose as Ynez so that no one knows she has escaped, but then when Ynez insists that Kieran come along with them, that plan goes down the drain, because it would not make sense if it is found out that Valya has escaped taking Kieran with her but not Ynez. So Theodosia poses as a guard instead and aims to kill Desmond Hart.

Interesting how Valya has apparently dropped her revenge towards the Atriedes and helps Keiran escape with Ynez when she could have compelled him to murder himself. But the scene where Desmond's eye was pulled out, turned around to look back at him, and then re-inserted was comically bad.

I think the show is fun but there are some real writing issues that I hope get fleshed out better in Season 2. As you pointed out the Theodocia scene was quite odd. The “please loosen my restraints” scene was an awful way to push the story forward, I would have rather Lyla just break her own hands instead. Some of the characters make needlessly stupid decisions to push plot forward that breaks the verisimilitude.

I took the original plan with Theodosia was for her to be swapped with the real Ynez and leave Theodosia as Ynez in the suspensor prison (so no one in the palace knows that Mother Superior escaped with Ynez). Real Ynez ruins that plan because she insists that she will only leave if ciaran atreides leaves with her. Mother Superior improvises / Theodosia volunteers to remain behind to kill Desmond / other imperial forces to distract them from pursuing Mother Superior

Pretending to be the guard was the backup plan. She was supposed to replace Ynez but Ynez demanding they take Keiran broke that plan. One thing you kind of missed in the series is Constantine himself. Constantine’s name appears to be an allegory to the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, a pivotal figure in the adoption of Christianity as the Roman state religion. Similarly, Prince Constantine in the series might serve as a catalyst for the Bene Gesserit’s eventual assimilation into the Imperium’s political and cultural framework, potentially under the influence of the Harkonnen sisters or Ynez. Regarding Theodosia, what would you do when you see a guard revealed to be a shapeshifting Bene Gesserit sister? You would be paranoid about everyone and everything around you. Like the Mad King Aerys with his own council and advisors. Valya planted a seed of paranoia in Hart and it will only get worse since Tula is arrested. Plans within plans. Even plans came sprout on their own without the planner's notice.
