I had to look up Lionel Messi. Wow, he literally fakes out the other players with body movement and does these shift gear movements to pass them then he only has one guy to beat and his shots by then are pretty darn accurate. Just great body control and amazing sense of where the ball needs to go to avoid the goalie. One shot was over his body as he was kind of falling backwards and he just lifted the ball gently in a slow arc and it just went right over the goalie into the goal. Now, I think I see why this name comes up because Messi is from Argentina like Oro and Messi is really good at what he does. Mystery SOLVED.

You have to consider the psychological angle as well. If you're in your 30s or 40s and have been playing for 25 years, it doesn't really matter how good you were or are, a certain degree of fatigue sets in because you're basically bored with it. Subconsciously you keep asking yourself - is this it? Is this me? Moving small wooden figurines around a square board? And of course since chess is the lifeblood of the grandmaster, there is no escape. You can't suddenly jack it in and choose another career path - you have to keep going. And there are signs of it happening to Magnus as well. But a fresh youngster who's naturally talented and hungry as hell, I can see how blunders start to creep into the older player's game. Carlsen and Hikaru have basically been there and done it all - many times over. There is no, what's next? What's next is basically more of the same and having reached the peak early on, the only way, I'm afraid, is down. That's life.

I like to think that after this game it went like this: Hikaru went into his bedroom, got under his covers and bawled inconsolably for a couple of hours. Through his bleary eyes he saw himself as a young child- maybe the future king, the chosen one?-- but no, there was always Magnus. Now he fears-- no, he knows-- that he is over the hill, heading for Kramnik-like irrelevance and mental instability. He sees the future chosen ones lining up for a chance to urinate on him as they walk past him into their rightful future fame, like Oro just did. He's afraid that he'll always be more famous for being emotionally stunted than his chess. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride-- ready to randomly throw a fit at the slightest slight, such as a word he doesn't like in chat. People watch him, but is it for his chess, or his strange man-baby behavior? He's afraid he knows what the answer is. The crying won't stop.

Hikaru's sloppy play is more than a tad suspect: he's clearly giving the poor child a chance. It's like when NBA stars have a one-on-one with kids with cancer at charity events: LeBron James **always** loses (miraculously!) to a 9yr old with leukemia; same with Jordan or Steph Curry. They're too dignified to crush little kids. Same is happening here. It would look unseemly for Hikaru to decimate a 9yr old, as he probably could with his eyes closed.
