Video games are becoming the most innovative and immersive ways to tell stories. Cinema and literature can only go so far in putting you in the world. But you, as the player, as the hero, will go through loss and pain. Continuing to fail until in the end you succeed. Long live the players.

For those who say "it's just a game" or "it's just a movie/show", loss is no different between people, animals, and characters. When you attach yourself to one of these, we experience sadness when that connection is no longer there. We feel this because we realize that they cease to exist or live as they used to. When people say it's not real life and you can always see your favorite characters again when you rewatch or replay something, it's similar to how you look back to photos and videos of the things you loved. It doesn't change the fact that from then on, those things will continue to be non-existent.

As a man I've felt that acknowledging when I'm upset/scared and having it out in the open can be really hard to do and when I have done it's usually associated with a sense of shame or guilt for not appearing as the "stoic" or "strong" person I wish I was, just my two cents. The "find me in the next life" hits me hard for some reason too.

Video games are great because you get a first hand account of a series of events in a world you can only dream of being in. It's alot more intimate than say a TV show and we as gamers develop such deep attachments to these games because to our minds we were actually there. All the loss, fear, excitement, we experienced all of it firsthand and that stays with you.

Games will never be just games anymore - games are here to move you, to make you feel love, pain, hatred, joy and anger. Games tell a story in a way that makes you experience it more than a book or a movie can. It makes you the character, it makes you the protagonist in a story that's written for you. Games is a way for the developer to express their story and for the player to experience that story in the most immersive way possible.

The phrase “it's just a game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you've lost twice. There's always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.

And this is exactly why there should be museums about video games, because some of them aren’t just “games”, some of them are master pieces, pieces of art that sometimes makes us think, reflect, and of course, fill us with joy sometimes… but there are as well scenes like those in God of War or that final part in Ghost of Tsushima that even makes us cry, and you know what? I’m proud I cried with that one in GoT, because some of them, are way more than just “games”
