Maybe it was already mentioned but just in case: gas ovens are not that common in Japan. As a result most households have a microwave/electric oven hybrid. Not always the best baking experience but tends to be good for simple cakes and cookies. Anyways keep up the great content!

@@theawesomeman9821 As far as I know, you don’t need a special permit. But it’s pretty cost prohibitive. You have to buy the oven which may be 1-2,000 dollars (100 to 200,000 yen) plus pay for installation in a space probably not set up for it. So you rarely see it in typical apartments but some may try to install them in houses or condos. Also the gas use itself would be expensive as well

10:17 is not that Komi is going to give him something else, she was reaching for her notebook to "talk" but then decided to actually talk to him. It's a nice detail.

A few quick notes. Guys get given chocolate on Valentines, and they can return it on White day to show that it is mutual, appreciated, or a way of (Probably?) letting them down more gently depending on what's returned. And at 10:20, it's a small touch, but I love this detail. Komi is reaching for her notepad to write down what she wants to tell Tadano, but decides to be brave and speak instead. It's possibly me reading too much into it, but it feels like a good way of showing her growth and bravery Also, regarding Komi and Tadano unable to realise what's going on. Don't forget that Komi is socially undeveloped. Not only was she friendless till a little under a year ago, but she was shown to have a significant number of self help and social instruction style books like Katai does. In addition, it took her several episodes to start getting how social interactions work. Relationships like this are a little advanced for her at the moment I think. As for Tadano, his last attempt at a relationship exploded in his face. I get the impression that his utter blindness to Komi is one part lack of self confidence (I.E, what could she possibly see in me?) and one part self defence. He isn't ready to try that kind of thing again just yet. Give him some time though! And finally, regarding Onemine, it was a kind of mini oven thing. Presumably due to how small her home is and (Big assumption on my part) the fact that her family seems relatively poor, I'm assuming they got that as a matter of space and affordability. I can't recall if it's the same in the anime, but they have a countertop use stove in the manga, and they lack a conventional oven/hob arrangement.

Totally right, add the fact that Komi is really conscious about Tadano after the love talk with Katou and Sazaki, she'd never know how to act in that moment Also, Onemine's family being relatively poor, it's pretty tough having children in Japan, let alone 5

@@siloPIRATE it was shown in a flashback sequence in 1x02 that in junior high Tadano tried to ask a girl out but she rejected him. It left a long and lasting bad impact on him that made him highly more conscious about his lifestyle and made him be more cautious about romance in the future. That's why he's trying not to be so forceful with Komi and also why he's not completely sure if she might not have feelings for him since Tadano doesn't want to get his hopes up only to get rejected again.

That rejection Tadano got in middle school scarred him so bad he believes he isn’t good enough for Komi. Komi has zero experience with romantic feelings, she barely has experience with human interaction outside of her family. They both have a lot of work to do before they can read the room.

What happened in the scene with Tadano´s sister was that she saw that there was a girl in the window and realized that she was there to give chocolates to Tadano. That´s why she said every excuse imaginable to make him go out of the house and run into her in the process.

Japan's Valentine's day works differently in Japan. Valentine's day is when a girl is supposed to give the chocolates. A follow up holiday called White Day, is when guys gives chocolates in return.

I like this way much better than in the U.S. I always felt pressure in school that it would be awkward if one person gave someone something on Valentine’s Day but got nothing back. White Day and Valentine’s Day lowers the pressure of each other by giving people the chance to return the favor (even if they don’t have romantic feelings for the person)

I think Komi's female friends understand that she loves Chadano makes things better and worse at the same time. Out of respect for their friends, they didn't even give Chadano a friendship chocolate. But in this atmosphere, Komi is even more embarrassed to give chocolate.

Out of "Komi's female friends" the only one I see giving him friendship chocolate is Onemine. The others, like Yamai and Nakanaka only see that Chadano as an obstacle or a nobody.

I think he does but in ep 2 he gets turned down in a flashback which creates trauma making him thing he's not good enough for Komi or any relationship, and Komi hasn't had friends before Tadano talked to her and helped he make some so she's used to her feelings or people's reactions.

I'm going to warn you right now, if it's the romance that your interested in, this series is a very slow burn. I love it, it's definitely my favorite manga series. But it is a slice of life story about making friends and over coming social anxiety. The romance is a minor plot point by comparison to that.

Yeah, I always tell people that if they get into this series, the romance is at best 5-10% of the whole manga/anime. Though maybe future seasons of Komi will focus more on the Komi/Tadano/spoiler stuff to condense it down a bit.

Fun fact in Japanese 711 they sale microwave cakes. It's not uncommon there. They are usually meant for 3 ppl. Easy to make n it's actually really good. Give it a try next time u make a trip to Japan Also in Japan valantines day is celebrated differently. The first day is when the girls give the chocolate first. White day is when the boys give the girls (who gave them chocolate) chocolate to show they like them

For Japan, Valentines Day is for when it's typically women to give chocolates. Either Friendship, Obligatory, or Real (Feelings). For guys, they give back a gift from those they received chocolate from a month later called White Day.

A therapist, who reacted to the anime, diagnosed Komi as most likely having Aspergers, and thought Komi's reaction was totally typical for someone with that diagnoses.

In the US, basically all homes have an oven. In foreign countries it isn't a guarantee. I believe Korea and Japan do not have ovens 'built-in' so you would have ovens that are 'microwave' size.
