I love the Hollar Family!!! One thing I noticed that when Ben is talking, Meg just stares at him and hangs on his every word. Love, respect, and admiration come to mind. This family will go far in life and this is just the beginning of their Homestead Journey. I'm happy to able to witness this.

As am I... they are very much in love and appreciative of each other's skills! So wonderful to witness... & I see "that look " from the Male perspective on occasion as well. Many men are so on task.... that occasionally women miss it, this ....especially this one... is subtle but earnest!

Ben, I done years of contracting and never have a camera around, yet there isn't a skilled craftman that doesn't spend 90% of the day talking to his/her self! Talking ourselves through the jobs, procedures, answering our own question while always trying to remind ourselves not to forget something..... now here you are, wife, four kids with one on the way, building a home, taking care of animals, building a homestead and your biggest mistake of the day was not hitting a record button...... "booo hoooo!" with laughter! LOL! You can still count to ten using all of your fingers, you had an excelllent day. :)

Ok. So I’m like at one minute seventeen into this video and I just had to pause it to say this: BEN IS SUCH A GOOD MAN. Good father good friend, good husband, good guy. I usually throw all my love at you, Meg, but this time I feel that I must acknowledge BEN. Y’all are such an inspiration to me. I would imagine that many others would agree. Y’all are living the life...day in and day out. I just love yas.

I definitely agree! Ben, you are such a terrific guy! Great husband, father, and friend!!!👍 It amazes me how you have gutted the mobile home and completely installed new wiring, plumbing, and new everything...all that while you all work the farm!!!! You are a great friend that's happy to lend a hand when needed, as well as a great friend to your KZbin family!👌

"Less melty" I like that. We're finishing a basement right now, and though most of it is DIY, we brought in a licensed master electrician to do the wiring. See, me and electricity get along a little toooo well if you know what I mean. Also, I'm going to have to remember that trick of throwing a scoop of feed in the coop just so you can get in the door. I used to end up looking like a chicken perch just trying to feed them. Have fun guys!

I always ran around barefoot as a kid until I stepped on a piece of a broken sewer pipe and cut open the arch of my foot just scraping against the artery that runs through there. That was the last time I ever went barefoot. The kids also shouldn't be helping out in the mobile home barefoot while it is being worked on. They should have shoes on their feet so they don't step on anything like an old staple or nail or large splinters. I know they don't want to wear anything on their feet, but limits should be set to protect them from injuring themselves. That is a work environment and shoes should be required.

Here in Sweden we put the wires in pvc-tubes which is practical, because they protect the wire against mice, and if you want to change the wire at a later point, you can pull out the old wire, and pull in a new one...

Do you have any extended family in the area, if not do they visit, what did and do they all think of your change in lifestyle and do any of your siblings homestead ? Is there anything you miss since leaving your old lifestyle behind, besides having a house but you'll have that so very soon, great job ! Also - Ben, since you once again have long hair, are we going to see you bringing out your guitar ?!! I have so many more questions but I'll leave it at that, I hope you answer !! Thnx for sharing your journey with us, blessings to you all !

After building our own house, just my hubby and I doing all of the work, we realized that the interior finish work is way more than framing and insulation and wiring. Y'all are making good progress by leaps and bounds. But when it comes to the finishing stuff, don't get discouraged. It can be done, and done on a tight budget. We went with 1x4s as trim and baseboards. Cut 1x12s for window casings. Much cheaper than actual trim boards. I stained and finished them on sawhorses before cutting them to nail up. Had all my walls textured and painted before trim was installed, so no taping off needed.
@margaretbedwell584 жыл бұрын
Well done Gwen & Hubby....I love 1 x 4's as trim...with square end not mitered. Years ago we were given a couple of pick up loads from a department store catalogue dept. We took down our trim and replaced it with these 1 x 4's we sanded and stained. I love the look.
