I call it the SH2 dilemma. So many games want to be SH2 because it was phenomenal to the point that we’ve fallen into this pit of diet SH games. Unironically this game is top tier from what you've played recently. It's original, but also feels like a Silent Hill title that doesn't bum off the Silent Hill formula, plus the music is just good. At first I thought the jingle was kind of meh but as each section went on, I got addicted to it, so the ending section just being the song was really cool to hear. I like how the characters don't question anything since it's supposed to not actually be currently happening which adds to the eeriness overall. I understand John not liking the game as much as Sylvio but this game is definitely a gem. I also hate that I just realized the title was chosen by twitch, it wasn't until the sing along that I realized the song was "morning" not "morbin" I was like the song is probably the only reason morbin is in the title.

We definitely feel the same about the game even the way you described the music box being “meh” at first then strangely getting better later into the game. Orienteering is apparently a popular hobby where you navigate in unfamiliar wilderness with a compass and a map, and there is a subset of that which they do at night. You can take classes on it and there are orienteering clubs. As for the storyline; I tried to look up similar sounding kidnappings to see if the developer based the plot of the game off of real events, but honestly there were too many news stories about girls getting kidnapped and held hostage to even begin to wade through (even when ONLY looking for crimes that were perpetrated by 2 brothers) I really liked the game and I disagree that it's not "realistic." It might be surreal in the way it tells the story but the horror of it is real enough, and it's why I don't walk around alone outside at night.

Finally figured out what this game was reminding me of! It gives me big Cry of Fear vibes, especially during that big club scene with the red lights and the cross; I got a major nostalgia wave through the whole thing. I actually kinda dig it, though I think the story is a little TOO metaphorical. It seems like you're retracing the events of the karaoke bar owners kidnapping a woman but there's no explanation given for why she's attacking you, why you have to keep shooting clones of her, OR how all that leads up to you saving her in the end - unless it's implying that you were mentally/spiritually "playing" the part of one of the twins and the creepy song was kind of triggering the whole thing.
@blackxrosary2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that maybe the woman was psychic lol and she was like, projecting an sos signal and she attacked the MC to kinda draw him out to find her. Kinda like threatened him to save her. She just didnt seem surprised that he found her. Almost like she knew he was coming eventually. Its either that or maybe the song playing was the MC trying to remember the song and use the clues from the lyrics to find the woman while the hallucinations of him killing her were his feelings of guilt manifesting if he didnt find her. Kinda like "if i fail its like i killed you myself". This is just me theorizing though

I'm happy to see Stroboskop making games again. Like you, I am a big fan of Sylvio, and although Sylvio 2 turned out to be a disappointment, that game has a special place in my heart. You can't fault them for trying new things, even if the execution isn't always the best. The last game I knew they made was called Brutalism, and it's a puzzle/maze game with shooting elements and it's pretty crazy, so this is kind of the middle ground between Sylvio's horror and Brutalism's surrealism, I feel. They also have an upcoming horror game called Guidance that deals with spirit possession and seems like it's sort of going back to Sylvio's roots of using a unique mechanic to solve a mystery and get around.

I hadn't heard anything about Sylvio before, but I'll check it out, this was a nicely odd, solid little horror game! And that song is weirdly addictive lol. Damn them for putting it everywhere. SPOILERS FOR ENDING I was afraid it was going to turn out all the "health potions" he was glugging was him getting drunk and shooting a bunch of people at the bar, since like John said a lot of times you turn out to be the bad guy in these kinds of games. Or that it was going to turn out you were playing as the girl who got kidnapped and was trapped in some kind of transdimensional hell where she kept killing other versions of herself. The ending being that you somehow saved the girl was a nice change and I like getting a rare happy ending, even if (again, like John said) it's not clear how much of the gameplay was real.

Thanks for the video, John! Enjoyed the walkthrough, i honestly opened it without any expectations about Karao but everything turned out great, it's a short game but it was armospheric and intresting. You know it is a good work of art when after completing it you take a time to piece the things together, the narrative part of this game felt so cool! You have a (plot) song, the weird parts of locations sequences, and the *flashback* monologues (of the plot), and honestly it worked so well and was intresting to experience without overloading with the detailed plot Also the sequences of the game felt like it's having Afraid of monsters vibe to it, for example the red light one scene where youre sliding down, I suppose that's one of the points why I got familiar with Karao and it's dark atmosphere (the stylized graphics are making Karao more atmospheric too) of the horrible story that ended well thanks to main character But true, why the girls you shot looked like the final girl? That's intresting to ponder on later.
@celestiallimax46952 жыл бұрын
Figured out the game sequence reflects not only main character journey to save the girl, but also the part where girl escapes after the first kidnapping by the antagonists (using the gun, as song mentioned) and they try to chase her down up to the end of the sewers location. The last forest sequence is them finding her in the new town that she moved in after the Texas, and then them kidnapping her when she was in a forest of the new town (the last part of the song). That's about why player shoots the same girl over and over again
