My favorite thing about this episode is how none of the Germans want to admit that they have NO clue WTF a "gonculator" is.

It even made it into Webster's online dictionary of computing: "(From "Hogan's Heroes", the TV series) A pretentious piece of equipment that actually serves no useful purpose. Usually used to describe one's least favourite piece of computer hardware." 😂

John Banner, who played Sgt. Schultz, was a Jewish Austrian who fled to the United States in 1938 to escape the nazi annexation of Austria. He served in the United States Army Air Corps for three years in the war against Hitler until 1945. He also lost many family members during the Holocaust. He knew how deadly the nazis were and chose to make fun of them playing Sgt. Schultz in Hogan's Heros and to show not all Germans were nazis because he never considered Sgt. Schultz as one.

My mom was German she grew up during WW2,and I remember the first time she saw Hogan's heroes, and she laughed so hard,it was the episode where they portrait Hitler, and she said I wish that he could've seen that, and she laughed hard,of course it's just a show, and very funny at that

I remember seeing this for the first time in the early 90s. The look on Hogan and his mens faces as they looked down at the steaming clothes made me laugh out loud, and I'm German.

The other twist of the episode if you’re familiar with history is the stalag they were in was one of the tougher ones were things like this wouldn’t have happened. Sort of a way to make light of shitty times.

Actually they did. In the real "Great Escape", the prisoners at the Luft Stallag took out light bulbs and fixtures, and ran spliced wires down into their escape tunnels to give the diggers and later the escapees light to see their way along the passage.
