On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. You guys are so wonderful! You both are so young but yet have more organized then a family in their 40's and 50's. You have so much to be responsible for! I am so proud of you, and I know the lord is also! You deserve a vacation and I am praying all goes well for you so you can relax and also relax when you get home. Michelle i want you to know ive learned alot from you. I am so happy today I checked my mail and got my Berlin seed catalog! I have alot of my own seeds, but I want to get a few, and also see what kind they have and how good their seed grow so I can come back to them to re supply my seeds. Also I am using the pectin you use now for my jams. I cant believe how many jars you all have. I learned from you how to pull off the eyes from my potatoes in my pantry so they will last longer. Its cool in my pantry but not that cool. I also make alot of herbal infused oils, lotion and facial moisturizes. Im learning, but have made alot of medicinal tinctures and medical remedies for my parents and I. I live alone, but my parents stay on my land and I take care of them. I have about 6 acres and have fruit trees and a full garden. Its alot of work and I do it all my self. I do get a garden every now and then and a tree faller. Hope you have a safe trip! Thanks for sharing!❤❤🙏

I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel about a month ago.. no drama and just FUN ! I've learned ALOT from watching ya'll by way of planting my own garden. I'm ready to expand (nervously) this year😊 One of the few channels where you don't "militantly focus" on your kids.. amazing parents, you both are ❤ On another note (absolutely NO intention to be offensive 💯) I think I could give some amazing suggestions on how to up your game with some of those recipes and give you some wonderful quick and easy options you've probably not even thought of 😉 I'm an old school cook.. my Great G'ma had me rolling pie crusts at 4 years old ! Most people don't cook "old school" anymore, but since you have an old school homestead, why not have some amazing recipes and suggestions to go with it 😊

I always get stumped about making the sourdough starter 🤦‍♀️ me making that, and making any sort of aisan food is definitely NOT my strong point, and ya'll 💯 look easy 😫 jealous !

I grew up on a farm, and I couldn't agree with you more!! I watched a homesteading video the other day and the kids had to do 1.5 hrs of intense chores before they went off to school. All they were given for breakfast was a bowl of cereal. Then when they got home from school their evenings were again filled with chores. I felt really bad for them. Teaching kids to work is important, but teaching them to rest is just as much so!! I was never taught this, and as an adult, I have experienced many burnouts and health problems because I don't take breaks. I'm now in my 40s and finally learning to say no, and prioritize rest. And, yes, I'm one of those people who had no desire to take over the farm, as watching miserable parents work themselves for 15 hours a day and be totally depressed and angry most of the time did not make me want that lifestyle.

I have just found your channel and am just in awe !!! Myself and my husband just absolutely adore you both! I have so many thoughts , questions and comments I don’t even k ow where to begin ❤ I’m originally from Newfoundland but now live in New Brunswick Canada . At 56 I am still learning so sooo much ESP from the both of you!! I was lucky to be raised canning foods (no fear)😊 However now over the past 10 years nut self and husband have done chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigs, rabbits, sheeps this year we attempted cows OMG😢 it’s really hard and we felt like complete failures because we lost 2. Now we’re struggling with a runt Holstein… I so badly want to add milk… I refuse to give up but my goodness it’s hard, we don’t have any farm equipment so it’s hard but so satisfying. This winter we saved up and got heated water bowls . I’m sorry now I’m rambling but I just wanted mostly to say how much I RESPECT you both and the approach you are taking. It’s truly helping us along our ever learning journey ! So much more I would like to ask and tell you but we’ll now I’m off sick . MUCH love and respect from Canada!! ❤

I was thinking about soil microbiology, and how you do your compost, and how you have problems with some of your plants and I thought that because your compost is too anaerobic, but that might be causing you to have an excess amount of the bad bacteria causing these issues. It’s also bad for the environment to do the compost the way that you do being anaerobic just something to consider maybe look into how to do your compost better to eliminate those issues

4:11 yes. When I was growing up, I had so many dang chores that I had absolutely no down time as a child growing up. It has caused issues for me over the years. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with chores for kids, but, let me take you through my week as a kid. 5 am wake up, take dogs out, feed inside dogs, check on outside dogs make sure they had water. We had about 10 dogs in total. Same with cats. We had indoor and outdoor. 6am - I'd get myself ready then start waking up my two sisters 630am fix them breakfast which was pop tarts or toast most of the time. 7am wake up my dad and step mom. Yes, it was part of my job to wake them up even though they had an alarm and if I didn't I got in trouble. 715am we would head to the school bus stop. Then after school - 430pm do homework, 530pm cook supper. Yes, I cooked supper... most of the time it was hamburger helper. After supper, it was time to check on all the animals again, after that it was bath time for both me and my sisters, yes I gave them baths. 9pm bedtime. The weekends? Saturday was work out in the yard with dad most of the time. Sunday was car wash day and dog wash day. That was my week, rinse and repeat. As an adult with 3 kids of my own I greatly believe in kids doing SOME chores and having fun being kids.

I have my chickens with a feeder that lasts easily a week and the same with the waterer. My winter waterer is smaller, but the summer one holds enough for 10 days as long as it isn't triple digits outside. I put frozen gallons of water in the waterer on those days. I enjoy my little trips.

Make sure you are consistently checking your mead with a hydrometer, it isn't weird for it to be done fermenting in a couple weeks and you don't want to let it sit too long after it has finished fermenting as this opens you up to higher risk of infection as well as creating off flavours by having it sit on the lees. While bubling can imply fermentation, it is not an accurate way to determine whether or not fermentation is still active as even after fermentation your mead will continue to release gasses. A bit unrelated but a mistake that is potentially dangerous and done by a lot of beginner brewers, make sure you have 2 consistent hydrometer readings at least week apart before bottling. If you plan to back-sweeten but not stabalize, it is common for fermentation to kick up again and you do not want this happening inside a corked bottle as it can explode. Even if your mead is crystal clear, fermentation can still start up. The channel you're using is notorious for having some incorrect information, I highly reccomend checking out etiher Doing The Most Brewing or Man Made Mead! The r/mead subreddit has some good information as well and most people there are open to helping people out. I don't mean for any of this to come off as rude and I am by no means an expert on this! Just trying to give some info based off mistakes I have made or have almost made. Good luck :)

I think the big problem is that we have this nuclear family model of how we should live. A homestead would be a lot easier with three or four times as many people sharing the tasks. Then any individual, couple, or sub-family could take a week off and there would be enough people left behind to manage everything without them.

That definitely seems to be the way it was done historically.

I’m not a fan of fried eggs either, YET devil eggs, egg salad(different seasoning, veggies, and sauces change the flavor😍), egg sandwich, egg and beef or bacon cups🤤 are good alternatives that I can eat everyday back to back n never tire of it. For that reason alone ion like pets but I’d risk all my peace for my own chicken. Ion even eat the meat

I actually don't like traveling much I'm not big on vacations. We go out for a couple days here and there and right now and even that is pretty hard especially during garden season. I have a good friend that used to be able to come help but he moved last year so we're going vacationless for a while lol.

Chore boy is such a strange thing to hear as a non American, sounds like some kind of servant. We would say farm sitter or helper,or animal sitter. Hope you guys have a great vacation.

Hello, More Than Farmers. Welcome from Arkansas. Regarding your mead/honey wine. I think you are going to be disappointed in your end product. For a nice mild flavored wine, you need to start with a mild flavored honey. Wild honey, which you are using, will probably be too strong. I suggest you use a mild honey such as clover for your wine. Also, aging the wine is supposed to help mellow the wine. I suggest you buy a gallon or two of clover wine for a better result. Then after using clover, you can branch out with orange blossom, apple blossom, or some other kind of distinctive honey. Granted the honeys will be more expensive; but, oh, so much better than wildflower honey. As for the wildflower honey, you should not have any difficulty using it. Good Luck. Cheers, Y.Shave

I feel that my life is well balanced, I work every day, & the only break was a family reunion that was about 60 years in the making... now, don't get me wrong. I have not been working for the last 60 years... I started working in my dad's factory when I was 14, on my school break - made $16 that summer. The next summer, $2/ shift, 2 7 hour shifts for an experienced person, $4 per day... not too bad for a 15 year old in 1975. That was the start of a 30 year career in printed circuit production. Single sided, double sided, Multilayer, Flex-ridged... we did it all, including Bondable Gold. Put your IC right on the board, need a cavity, we did that too -) The last company I worked for then told me they were closing. They could not buy raw material for what Asia could make the whole board for, so we did prototype for a bit... The U.S. has lost manufacturing at a reasonable cost. I am now down to my last U.S. made Parker Pen. I love it, but what I find now is light weight U.K. made - junk. Not the quality the U.S. Had made. Look at the Car industry. Buy U.S. made & it falls apart in less that 10 years. Same for Europe. they have expensive fall apart stuff... now, the Japanese got it right, & some of their older stuff you can see 500K miles or even 2x that, but not any more :-( Quality has been on the decline like family values. Push Jesue out of your home, the world has gone to hell in my lifetime. I worked at a company in the '90-'s, & The slogan was, In God we Trust, all other's have their data - to show what is going on in their department. In God, I trust, but I know the worst is still yet to come. Wars, mobs... I hope that is still a few years away... Thank you for your videos...

My son has a baseball tournament by the beach in a couple months. Last year my husband took all the kids to it and I stayed home to milk and do chores. It sort of made me sad to miss out on that family time with everyone. How do you teach a chore boy/person all the little nuances of your routine and feel like you can relax when you leave?

It can be helpful to have them shadow you a couple times as you do the chores, and answer any questions that come up. Hope you get some time to recharge with your family soon.

You can buy salted butter at the store so I don't understand why people have issues with you making it at home. I guess some people just have to complain about something.
