People who think money/taxes are the only thing players think about need to give their head a shake. Personal preferences, family ties, looking for a fresh start, looking for a cup winner, wanting to have a bigger role and more ice time, wanting to play with certain players, leaving a toxic culture, all play a part. Humans are complex.

Comparing Lindholm to these guys is a bit silly. I think the chances that Lindholm ends up being Eriksson are slim to none. The Bruins pro scouting has done a pretty damn good job. They know the player, and they think he's going to excel with the team. Look at the guys they brought it. Coyle, Zacha, the other Lindholm. They have all put up their best numbers with the Bruins. Look at the players that Lindholm will play with.. and Marchand and Pastrnak on the PP. How much you wanna bet his numbers are closer to his career best than they're to what Eriksson put up as a Canuck. The Bruins are a consistent winning franchise. The Bruins got the player they wanted, and they didn't have to give up Lysell or a first round pick. Come on, you can point to this player and this one, but I don't see the comparison. Marchand and Pastrnak played great hockey with a right shot 2way center in Bergeron. Lindholm isn't Bergeron, but he's the next best thing when you can get him for nothing. Big win for the Bruins, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're in the hunt for another Presidents trophy late in the season.

I don’t bear any ill will to Lindholm. Yeah it sucks that we gave up a lot of assets for a rental player but only teams that think they have a chance to win the cup do that and if we’d had a bit more luck with our team’s health this past post season, Canucks would have beaten the Oilers. I’m very happy with the Lindholm for Debrusk “swap” as I feel Debrusk has a better chance of extracting more from Petey in the post season than Lindholm did. And since we have both those guys for the next 7 years let’s hope so!

I think he want to play for a classic team with great outlook. Stanley Cup winning capability. Vancouver is not there yet. Boston was close to a final with a pretty unimpressive team. It’s in the walls the winner mentality sips through the organization.
@SomeOne-uy4kj2 ай бұрын
Methinks, you missed some non-monetary dynamics. As beautiful as Vancouver is, he (and Zadorov) wanted to be on the Boston stage. In addition, they both have a perfect fit in terms of where and how they will fit into the lineup. Why are you still missing that?

Makes sense to me that Lindholm didn't want to be on a Calgary team going through a rebuild. For the Canucks, I think they were misguided to give up assets for a rental that only could have worked if Petey was converted to wing, or else having Lindholm as a too good for a 3rd line centre. That never made sense to me. Guentzel made sense but ... dang. Boston really needed to replace Bergeron so that makes sense, Big Z makes sense there. Will Lindholm thrive there? Who knows, it's impossible to replace Bergeron, so 'good enough' maybe works. Money isn't everything for players. Being #1 centre in Boston sounds better than #3 C in Van, or #1 C in Calgary during a 5 year rebuild.

Some players like to play in US market than in Canadian market, so I am not surprised if Lindholm unwilling to sign with the Canadian team even though salary is about the same (of course there is more if you count currency + tax rate as some of the audiences said in previous videos).

Taxes makes it a win for Lindholm if I'm not mistaken. And Boston seems like a better city, location, than anything in Alberta. Boston is always in the mix for the cup. That could change, who knows. Boston has Zadorov now as well. They will be gushing over there about him. Rightly so. I'm stoked the Canucks added the players from Boston. Fills needs, and cap space never a bad thing.

It certainly would be rewarding for the Vancouver to win their first ever Stanley Cup this year. As much as I wanted Zadorov to stay, it would be so fitting for he and Lindholm to be watching the Canucks hoist the cup. Neither his nor Zadorov's contracts are going to age well. I give them three years before both are bought out.
@KptKrunch94813 ай бұрын
Ah, yeah, ok lol
@soullessrenegades14443 ай бұрын
I can see Zadorov being bought out in 3 years, but not Lindholm. Lindholm is good enough to thrive if given the right teammates, and he is a good face-off center. But Zadorov is pretty much a 3rd pairing player who is good to bang in the playoff. Most players player harder in playoffs but if he doesn't show up till the playoffs, that doesn't make him a 5.5 a year player.
@darcypadgham70763 ай бұрын
@@soullessrenegades1444 You're probably correct as Lindholm will definitely be on the top line. He should have chemistry with Pasternak. I suppose we will just have to wait and see.
@christhornycroft36863 ай бұрын
A lot of these long term deals will age badly. That's why I don't get upset, besides strapping the Canucks with a contract that prevents them from filling out the roster, that they didn't go out and sign a guy like Guentzel. The Canucks made very strategic moves. DeBrusk was one of the youngest UFA wingers and a guy I've liked since he was drafted. He seemed like a classic Boston Bruins type of player. I also really like Danton Heinen. He could be a steal. The guy is a perennial 16-18 goal scorer as a 3rd liner. The Canucks have options now in their lineup as well as toughness and scoring. On D, they're probably slightly worse, but Zadorov has never been a top 4 defenseman over 82 games and that contract could age terribly. I would have liked another 4-5 defensive defenseman, but there's a salary cap and given where they were at the end of the season, they've done really well. If Lekkerimaki shows significant improvement and makes a push for the main roster, that would be insane. As for Lindholm, that contract could be very ugly in the last 4-5 years. He's already declined significantly offensively in the last couple of seasons and he's being asked to play a top line role. Maybe it works for a couple of seasons, but if it doesn't, yikes.

@biffstrong10793 ай бұрын
@ScottStenlund-x9m That's another read. He had 22 goals and 64 points a year ago and 42 goals and 82 points two years ago. He's a talented defensively responsible center so closer to Patrice Bergeron than many. He is an actual first line center which zacha is not. He will thrive with Pastrnak and be an upgrade.
@biffstrong10793 ай бұрын
@ScottStenlund-x9m Could be. I like addressing a teams actual needs with free agents. Lot of teams go out and choose the shiniest player availblbe despite their needs. He was good in carolina and great in calgary. He was never an offensive whirl wind but he will do well with pastrnak, who wouldn't and the complete game package may not deteriorate as fast as if he was a one noteoffensive player.
@biffstrong10793 ай бұрын
@ScottStenlund-x9m true.but hes an improvement for the bruins at center though, probably a big improvement. The bruins are an aging team that either needs a bit of a rebuild or should have drafted barzal, connor an chabot rather than zboril debrusk and synyshyn.
@biffstrong10793 ай бұрын
@ScottStenlund-x9m Sure You could be right. We are going to see soon. He's an upgrade because the center situation in Boston was so bad. You are paying a premium cause he's a UFA. A team with Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle as their first two centers is going no where.

You probably have to look at what he lost as a net. The sad reality is that Alberta's taxes which are the lowest in Canada are still as high as the highest tax US jurisdictions that likely narrows the gap. I also suspect he wasn't really in the mood to sit through at least four years of a rebuild in Calgary and went to the contender which offered him the most. He's rich either way.
