How amazing! That was such a beautiful area. When we were there visiting, they had a wedding going on. It was truly magical. We watched for a little bit and it was so magical! Thanks for sharing. Best, Pam

Great video, quality filming and editing! The holes you saw and asked about were once framed with shatterproof one-way glass. They were to look in but not able to be seen (unless they had their face on them), We used them to covertly see if anything was taking place in cells without other inmates calling out a warning that we were coming. While I never worked that unit, I did work the first unit opened at the facility they were moved to when that one closed and they had the same set up in their "Pipe Chase Halls". Many of the staff I started my career with did work there.

This was Awesome that you were able to see this place. I have lived in the Boise area since I was born in 1966. The area around Warmspirngs Avenue where you saw the Gargoyles is a geothermal area. All the homes and buildings were or are still heated with ground water. When were you actually here? I could literally spend a month showing you SOME of the interesting things in the Boise area and only scratch the surface 👍 Looks like you stayed at the Ambassador Rv Resort in Caldwell Idaho🤔 That is where the West Coast HDT Rally is held 🤭

Hi James! We were there last summer. We loved it. We actually stayed in the Mountain Home RV park. There was limited availability around Boise at the time. It was also over 110 degrees when we were there too. Boise is so amazing and there is so much to do. We saw the penitentiary and jumped on the chance. We had no idea about the geothermal activity. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

@@discoveryboundrv Unfortunately the summers seem to be getting hotter and the winters colder 😫 And yes even a place to pitch a tent up in the mountains has been hard to find the last few years. Glad you enjoyed the area 😀 👍 Lots to see if you come back this way 😎

Lee you are such a lucky man. Pam has such a fun and cool aura about her . And Sofia is so beautiful that down the road you may want to remember were the penitentiary is and lock her up to keep the boys away... lol. I say that as a father who also has a daughter. And little Emily is getting so big in just the months since you started posting videos. If you ever go to Philadelphia there is also a really cool penitentiary tour you can take that when i toured it a number of years back it was hosted by the recorded voice of Steve Busemi the actor by blue tooth headphones. Anyway... keep going with the great videos, stay safe and safe travels.

Hi John, Thank you! I'm glad you can relate to the struggles I'm in. :) The penitentiary idea is great one. I will remind Sophia of this before she goes to the next playground. LOL. We will be passing through Pennsylvania this season and will make sure to add this to the list. It's so much fun to discover new things along the way. We always make sure that education and fun are part of the itinerary. Homeschooling is complimented with the many different places we visit. That's why we picked the prison. The girls had never seen one before and I said "Well alright then...off we go!" :) Thanks for the great tip!

Hi Kristi! When we were in San Francisco we wanted to visit Alcatraz. We had no idea that it was so difficult to schedule. Next time we will definitely make time to visit. Old prisons are a strange place, but we can truly appreciate them for what they are. For us, it's the learning something we never knew before that keeps us going. Alcatraz is on our list and we can't wait to visit. Thanks for sharing and Safe Travels.

Certainly makes you wonder what life is like there for 5-600 inmates! Also how life might have been different if they *were* allowed to tend to the gardens :) I think (just guessing here) that inmates could put their arms through the bars with mirrors in hands to see guards coming. So maybe they put the peep holes in to see prisoners without being seen?? BUT ... that must have been built in as they made the cells. Also. The Oregon trail. Only you guys could successfully navigate the pipeline! That's just priceless, and sooo Discovery Bound! All power to Maximus! 🥰

We couldn’t agree more. I’m still lost on the peep holes. Like I said, there is a lot more that goes into the workings of a prison that you just can’t understand without a guide. It was so neat to see it though. Glad we could share it with you. The other part of the Oregon Trail that we didn’t share is that you never know if you are trespassing on someone’s property or not. The landscape is so vast and open that oftentimes you ask yourself if you’re going the right way. Then you see a little white marker that says Oregon Trail. All that said, We would do it again in a heartbeat! As for the prison, the living conditions were so bad that in the 1970’s the inmates burned it down and it closed. I would guess they are better and more spacious nowadays. Don’t want to find out. :)

The wife was so cute when she was talking about the jail when she said penitentiary she said it was a penitential wary. That was so cute. You got a remembered she’s not a native United states. She speaks so well I never thought that she was in an American 🇺🇸
