Geoff, Vicki, The abandoned station you saw on the way to Fishguard is Wolf's Castle halt. It was opened on 5th May 1924 and I have a picture of it still open in July 1958. If you come through Fishguard on your return and the two of you would like a tour of the castles of Pembrokeshire leave me a comment here and I will arrange it for you. We've some classics that Vicki would love! - Richard.

Hi, I am a regular user of the Fishguard to Stena line, and the normal ship (Stena Europe) is having maintenance, it is a lot bigger than the one you're on, and better. I have been on both. For Stena Europe you walk up a little gangway to the ship. A 'famous' landmark is Tuskar lighthouse, once you see that it means you're about an hour away from docking into rosslare

The, now defunct, Olua Line between Sheerness and Vlissingen took 8/9 hours and was our prefferred route when travelling to German RAF Stations on detachment. We got a cabin and *some" sleep before the onward journey. The UK to Westfalia journey via Dover/Calais would have been too much without a break!

These videos are worth watching just for Vicki's antics! Ferries are fun. At 3 hours that one isn't too long. You should try the overnight from Harwich to Hook of Holland. I did it several times in the mid-90s with a truck load of gear going to the RAI exhibition centre in Amsterdam. We got to use the Truckers Lounge and had cabins. The boat leaves about 11:30 and gets into Hook of Holland in time for breakfast. I'm not a trucker, but at the time a friend whose company built TV & radio stations used to exhibit and since I would go work for him demonstrating the kit, I suggested instead of hiring a moving firm we should rent a 7 tonne truck with a tail lift and do it ourselves. We would have about £200K worth of electronics in the truck! Great fun pretending to be truckers!

In 1997, I (and college boyfriend) took the ferry from Rosslare, Ireland (after visiting family) to Roscoff, France, as it was the coldest June in Ireland since... 1934 or something. So we went to sunny & warm France! Later in the trip we took the ferry to Holyhead from Dublin & then made our way by bus to London & the sleeper to Glasgow & then up into the highlands & eventually (via ferry from Ullapool) to the Isle of Lewis! ... Man, I travel a lot. :-D In 8 days it's to the trains of London, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, & Poland! TO THE TRAINS! (and the cows cows cows)!!!
