Curious that John Bly would say that greater knowledge of the fender had only come about 20 years or so prior to whatever date the show was made. You would think that if it was made ~ 1855 that there wasn't much new to learn about it.

Does anybody know which brand and model of wristwatch is being worn ?

The owner of the brass fender certainly does resemble Charles III.

What is this piece? A bookshelf?

The first piece goes in front of a fireplace. Sort of an old-fashioned boundary device.

This is called a “fender”...literally defended the floor from burning coal falling onto the floor🤩

It is called a "fender". It goes in front of a fireplace to keep sparks and ash contained. I just learned what a fender is about a week ago when I came across the word in Agatha Christie's first book "A Mysterious Affair at Styles". I didn't know what a fender was and had to look it up; now I come across the same item a week later on KZbin. Life is funny.

I don't mind grotesques, but proportions of the whole are off; it's too wide and therefore looks clumsy and, yes, ugly.
