My friend and I were in Germany together and she decided to get off the train at the last second, so the doors ended up closing in my face (they don’t open back up like in NYC). I had to get off at the next stop blocks down the road. I assumed she would have waited for me or tried walking in the direction of the train to meet me. She didn’t. She just walked back herself and thought nothing of it. When I didn’t even know the address of the B&B. Luckily, I was able to figure out where it was by searching for a specific restaurant that was down the street. But it was sundown and getting dark, alone in a foreign country. I was really pissed at her because she didn’t even apologize when I got back. She saw me getting stuck and I even pointed in the direction of the train to try to tell her to follow. Idk. One of the girls decided to stay at the guys house again. We called several times and no answer. Told the front desk that our friend would be back for her luggage and gave them our key. As a kidney donor this struck a cord with me. The choice is always yours. It is a gift you are giving. Most transplant centers will cover and take the blame if you decide privately that you cannot donate. They will says something medically came up. The story that you tell I am 100% sure that the center would not have let her donate because they look at your lifestyle and the psychology. You also need a primary caregiver. To determine if I could donate, I have to go through interviews with nephrology, surgeon, psychologist, social workers, primary care, and your advocate. They want to make sure your life is not impacted long term. The pre-tests are A LOT! Recovery is 6-8 weeks plus a commitment for testing every 6 months for the rest of your life.

Every culture sees the dinner celebration thing differently. As an American, I grew up with the notion that if someone says, “Let’s go out, we should celebrate you!” That means they’re paying. Albanians think the opposite. If you got a new job or something, you pay because now you’re the more fortunate one. But you also usually suggest the celebration yourself when that’s the case. So it depends a bit on cultural context. But inviting someone else to dinner assuming they’ll pay for more than their share is rude af

in that one part where they're talking about being buried w things, it made me think about my grandmas funeral. basically she was a big fan of an artist and had bought a t shirt with them on it. when she died of cancer the plan was to bury her in that shirt with her favorite jeans that way shed be "happy in her favorite clothes even in death" they were also going to bury her in some of her favorite jewelry. the issue being that someone(not sure if it was a family friend or one of their neighbors) went through her things and stole those clothes and some of her jewelry. they chose a different outfit and buried her in what was left of her jewelry, but later on the same person that stole her stuff, was seen wearing it around the neighborhood, and put up a fight when confronted about it. this happened before i was even born, my grandma died when my mom was 15, and shes 40 now, but that section of the video brought back the memory of my family telling me the story.

With the heirloom ring I can completely understand why she would want to keep it until she died. Its her connection to her dead husband and means alot. But to be buried with it? That's selfish. The ring isn't going to do anything for when your dead. And if you believe in heaven then you'll be with your 1st husband again anyway. Have it be passed down to your son after you die. If he's already married with kids at that point he can give it to his kids when they marry. She's the arsehole.

She’s missing the point that heirlooms don’t really belong to you, they are given to you for a time and are then passed on. Keeping it while she’s alive seems reasonable; selfish, but reasonable…to be buried with it defies the love that was intended to be passed along.

The friend that gave Selena her kidney was also upset because apparently Selena promised to quit drinking and she didn't. I understand that alcoholism is a serious problem and I really feel for Selena but I'd be pissed off too if I was her friend

I was my aunts caregiver after her kidney transplant. She healed incredibly quick and still for over 2 weeks she couldn’t shower, walk to the bathroom, or even put her socks on alone. It’s also twice as hard for donors than recipients!

with heirloom jewelry i hate how people act like its a family owned piece. that woman was GIVEN that ring by her husband. by logic, it is hers then. I understand tradition matters, but also she owns the ring not the grandmother or her son. its not selfish and entitled to do what you want with an item you own.

Fun fact - my grandad was planning on being turned into a ring after he died, but when my mom looked into it apparently it was super expensive :( (we threw him in the ocean instead) (post-cremation, in case that wasn't clear)

People seems to assume that you can donate a kidney and go on with their lives as normal, it deeply affects your life forever. Not to mention she could a have a permanent complications that render her from work or even dying, then who will take care and support her children. Plus what happens if one of her kids needs a transplant one day and she can't even get tested because she donated to her friend's husband already.

When my best friend died, her parents sent (not very legal, but it was too far to drive them) some of the ashes to a glass artist that does glass sculptures, to which you can add color in the centre and some ashes. They had one made for the mom, dad and brother. It was beautiful to see how they had turned the top of a high commode into a memorial with pictures, the sculptures, her religious necklace (sorry, English isn't my first language and I can't find the right word) and more. I edited her in a picture of me at the lake (a place she loved and wanted to one day see in person but her living in Canada and me in Switzerland, we never got to do it). I took a picture from her if where she was smiling so hard and looked extremely happy. I'm glad I got to out the picture on the memorial, means a lot. I would love to have that done with a bit of my ashes and have the rest turned into a tree! She and I even talked about it when I visited her, leaving her 10 days before she passed. In my opinion, the mother is selfish to keep an heirloom ring that comes from her husband's family. If it was hers, I could understand (not necessarily agree, but understand). If her husband had not died, she would have probably given him the ring. Trust me I get the whole "it's so meaningful" part but she has to remember that her son lost his dad, too. When my dad passed, my mom gave me her wedding band (they were divorced but it was very sentimental to her) and we had them turned into a necklace, the small one in the big one, connected at the top and with a dangling heart in the middle. I'd give the mom 1.5/5 buttholes bc it's meant to be passed down from gen to gen, but I don't think it's also the end of the world. Let's make it 2/5 bc of the risk it gets stolen or the son has to make the decision to take it when she passes, and he would most likely feel awful about doing that.

The one with the friends dinner who got the book deal- if we are going out to celebrate a friend’s accomplishment, I would never expect them to pay! It’s a party for them-especially if I suggested going out in the first place!

For the ring: I think it’s okay for her to keep it until she dies, but not continuing to pass it down is messed up. She should leave it to her son so the ring has continuous use and follows tradition, even if the son can’t propose with it, he’d still get it and be able to pass it down.
@nikkismadness37813 жыл бұрын
I agree too also what might be a solution for this would be that you give the ring to a jewler which then takes some of the shaveings and makes a new man sized ring for the son's potencial fiance So she could have the ring until she dies but the son still has a piece of the actual heirloom
@joiceraiana3 жыл бұрын
It's not HER family heirloom tho. The grandmother and her son want to uphold the family tradition, she's just selfish
@bri.janell133 жыл бұрын
@@joiceraiana yeah that’s what I’m saying. If it has sentimental value than hold on to it until she dies, but she should give it to her son when that happens
@nikkismadness37813 жыл бұрын
@@joiceraiana yes but right now it's HER ring. The ring SHE got from HER DECEASED husband I understand your view but for her it might be like giving a major piece of him away forever... those proposal rings often signifie the relationship two people have and giving that up... idk...
@talikatz32873 жыл бұрын
Exactly. As soon as the ring was passed to her it became her ring. It was a gift. Being barrier with anything doesn’t make any sense to me and I think she should will it to her son but for now it’s hers.

If I was the bride in the MOH pregnancy story, I would set up a stream service so she can still attend my big day if she has given birth on her due date (which, if you look at the stats, is highly unlikely). I would be more excited about my best friend bringing a baby into this world than my MOH needing to step down. I would understand. The MOH is NTA. At all.

1. NTA. Even if it's a small chance risking leaving your kids that's still a very real , very scary proposition. 2. NTA. She's a grown woman and the poster tried to get her to leave with her. 3. NTA. However I do think based on context clues that the friend isn't that upset. 4. YTA. That ring is a family heirloom and he has rights to it. If his mother had kept the ring she wouldn't even have it now anyway. 5. NTA. It would be one thing if they were like broke college students and you insisted on an expensive restaurant. They can pay their way. 6. NTA. The audacity of this woman after cheating on her partner to even message her much less ask for the gift back.

Regarding the organ donation issue, I think helping someone you know & care about in that way is super selfless and admirable. It's important to acknowledge that gratitude is one of the most difficult emotions to sustain. Relationships often don't survive the feelings of obligation etc that come with such a massive gift, it changes things for everyone x
@aceofhearts47772 жыл бұрын
On the kidney story, we're also completely bypassing the fact that there have to be a good few matching factors in order for that kidney to be useful to him long term. No way would i put my kids at risk by going through a dangerous and unnecessary (for me) surgery, but even more so when there's a chance it won't even work

When I get married, when I said my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids I let them know that they would be paying for the dress, what they have the chose of what dress they wanted and felt comfortable on but just had to be the same colour. I paid for the hens party and to get the dresses fitted if needed and they could wear what ever jewellery and shoes they wanted. And if they couldn't or didn't want to that was there opposition from day one. All I wanted on my wedding day was for then to be comfortable it what they were wearing and could look back on phone and love them, because they picked what suited them. Love your guys’ ideas on burials/cremation! There’s so many better ways than just getting buried in the ground & I think it’s so true that those are a waste of resources! I also haven’t ever heard of the coral reef one but that is an AMAZING idea I’ll be looking into. Imagine if everyone who passed turned into a tree or some sort of biodegradable source, or a coral reef, it would help the ecosystem so much.

When you mentioned your grandma always calling and reminding you of the movie Taken, it reminded me of my grandma. If we were going to Canada, let's say Prince Edward Island (which is to the far right of the country), she'd call and be like "Did you know there's fires in Vancouver??" (which is the opposite side lolol) or my sister went to Germany in the summer of like 2016. Then two years later, my grandma called my sister and was like "Where were you in Germany?? Did you know someone just drove through the capital building in Berlin??" like... Grandma that happened a couple days ago. Not in 2016 😂 You gotta love the concern tho haha

With the wedding ring. I wouldn't want the ring to be broke down into another piece of jewelry. I would want it to stay as a wedding ring - I want to pass mine down. Honestly, I don't know if a man would want to wear a womans wedding ring. She could give him her father's ring and then tell them if they have a little girl that it could go to her when she gets engaged

For the rich friends dinner story, I also felt she shouldn't have had to pay for dinner at ALL because it was a celebration for her brought up by her friends. Unless it's going to a bar, you don't just say you gonna celebrate a person and then expect them to pay for themselves let alone for everyone

The bridesmaids gift box story. I’d be hopping into the group chat and say “yeah I spoke to X, who was the one who actually PAID for the gift and he said I didn’t need to return it so….” Technically if she gave it back to the bride the bride would be stealing from HIM.

I needed a kindey transplant at age 16. People got tested but no one was a match or were in poor health conditions. When people like my teachers offered to give me theirs I told them not to go get tested because I felt way too guilty taking anyone's kindey. UNOS called and I got a kindey from a deceased person at age 18. I don't think she is the asshole, but if my husband needed a kindey it would be so gut wrenching and I'd be trying harder to get him that kindey. Dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours and lots of surgeries and knowing you might die soon and feeling terrible all the time. I wouldn't be handle seeing someone I love go through that I went through it's so hard. And especially knowing the average adult has to wait on the transplant list for over 5 years. 5 years of hell, I was lucky I was a minor so I only had to wait 3 years. So she isn't the asshole but I do feel for her friend and understand where she is coming from. But if it was me I still don't think I would cut her off she needs ro understand where other people are coming from.
