TAG checking in. It blows me away some 2 years later that this video now has over 20 million views. I remember when it first came out I was one of the first 300 to see it. I personally watched this myself probably 50 times and I know I've watched at least 25 people react to it. Watching him do this live in person twice now was also amazing. Thanks for another amazing tool reaction see you on the next one

Beyond just having total limb independence he also has dynamic control over them so he can be hitting hard with one hand and soft with the other and at different intensities with his feet. Pound for pound the greatest rock/fusion/prog drummer on the scene. So musical in the parts he plays, technically brilliant but with feel, pocket and touch for days.

I didn’t see any video of Danny Carey assaulting anyone, more being assaulted by the police. His hands were behind his back and one started yelling stop resisting, so they can tack on more charges to sweetin the plea deal and revenue they generate off of bullshit and ego. Cops lie in police reports the majority of the time even when there is no need to, for whatever reason. But since their a state employee, in a state sponsored kangaroo court, they are bialy considered and viewed by jurors as more trustworthy and credible like good ol’ Mayberry. They wear body armor in public, that should speak volumes to the direction they and we all are heading. I don’t trust a state sponsored kangaroo court masquerading as upholding justice in this country. The only thing they uphold is the for profit prison industrial complex. We have much work to do to turn this society around, but from my experience there are few cops that aren’t involved in their gang activity and deserve to be honored and trusted. Evalde is most representative of the state’s and prison industrial complex’s hired thugs , to keep the have nots under their demands and control. Danny Carey was drunk and he doesnt have any indication to be a bully or have violent rage tendencies, the people claiming so on the other hand….

As a drummer, I can tell you YES its "normal" to see a cymbal or toms positioned in the most odd ways.Mike Mangini has a HUGE kit as he plays for Dream Theater & it is mirrored on the left & right side unlike a traditional layout of highest pitch toms decending from left to right down to the floor toms.Drum kit layouts are as unique & strange as the indivudals who play them.

It's not common for rock and metal drummers to use the ride cymbal that high, that's more of a jazz influence on him but another reason is because he gets more free space to set his eletronic devices.

There’s a short video of Maynard playing Jenga behind Danny Carey while playing Descending (it has a section with no vocals just like Pneuma) and Danny hits the Gong which is right where Maynard was playing Jenga knocking the game over it pretty funny. Another video same song and situation with Maynard playing the Dr game pulling bones without hitting the sides.

Hi, I love your reaction. I've seen this video several times and it never gets old. Danny obviously has fantastic technical skills, plus he's also very creative and he's like a friggin metronome. I think I remember hearing Danny say in an interview that he doesn't count during the songs (like counting the beats for the particular time signature so you don't get lost), which absolutely kills me if it's true, especially with the odd time signatures and changes in time signatures that many of their songs have. I've been a musician since I was a kid, having started drum lessons at 6 y/o, piano lessons a couple years later and I had about 8 years of lessons on both instruments, but I stopped playing drums in my 20's and I've been primarily a keyboardist and vocalist ever since. Give me about 2 weeks of practice on the drums and I could probably hack my way this song, but I certainly wouldn't be even close to fluid as he is in his playing and I could NEVER do it without counting!
@peterpike2 жыл бұрын
I find in polyrhythm it's actually easier not to count it.
@RockDocNeal2 жыл бұрын
@@peterpike now that I think about it, you might be right! You could be concentrating so much on counting beats that you lose the feeling and groove of the song.

Danny looks happy? Oh, you haven't discovered Junna yet? 😁While she does mostly drum covers and metal blastbeat stuff and not so much complex polyrhythms, there is still no musician on earth that makes me smile as much as she does. Senri Kawaguchi is also ridiculously awesome, and probably more technically skilled/trained than Junna, although her style is more in the fusion/jazz genre. Both awesome and recommended to check out if you like drums, but watching Junna just fills me with joy - you'll understand when you see it. Favorites among reactors are Painkiller / Judas Priest and Through the fire and flames / Dragonforce.

3:20 when you said(I think haha) "I'm glad he can count this.." lol I did some digging and repeated attempts of counting to "try" and figure it out haha This is just for the main riff/verses and now my brain hurts lmao. Trying to solve and write them all down in order is akin to trying to solve the Diophantine Equation, and I don't want to make this to become my lifelong research focus 🤣 According to Adam(interview), the song's time signature is 33/16. Sourced from Reddit: It can also be split(for easier counting maybe?) in two different ways 14/8 - 19/8 or 14/8 - 14/8 - 5/8 How I count the bars... Total of 33 16th notes for one full measure. Even with this it is so hard to keep up lmao. No wonder he doesn't play to a click track and goes by feel instead haha 1 - 2 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 1 - 2 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 1 - 2 1 - 2 - 3

Right hand, circular pattern. Left hand more of a back and forth pattern?
@Danlows12 жыл бұрын
It changes too. Right hand at some parts has 5 drums in the pattern, then 4, then back to 5, 4,3,2 snare. Left hand starts with 3, then adds one as it gets taken away from the right hand, then down to 3, 2. Also he starts off playing double hits with right, singles with left, and seamlessly switches to doubles on both to get the Swiss triplet feel
