Your favorite drummer is an amazing drummer. This definitely allows you to see the greatness that is Danny Carey.

I was at this show. It was AMAZING! I had box seats for this one. Danny usually wears the jerseys from the stadium he's playing. He's wearing Larry Bird's number here in Boston. This was November 2019. Danny Carey is my drummer idol. I follow Tool up and down New England whenever they go on tour. I've been doing it since the mid 90s. My absolute favorite band. I'm so happy you're part of the Tool Army! Welcome !

around the 8:53 mark watch the drums he's using in his pattern. He slowly takes them out 1 by 1 as it builds up until it's just he high tom and snare and then into the double pedal. That is how you build suspense in a song and it's brilliant.

Welcome to the Army! One of us. One of us. One of us!! I'll share a couple of quips I picked up from other reactions to this video: 1) Some drummers play to the 'click', but the 'click' plays to Danny Carey. 2) Danny went to the crossroads to make a deal with the devil. Nobody knows what Danny got out of it, but the devil learned how to play drums.

I mention this on Danny Carey Pnuema reactions, sounds kinda goofy to say but his posture is perfect, his back straight up, shoulders back, his drum throne set at a height that his legs are 90 degrees, gives him so much room for reach and his torso can pivot correctly for longer fills to his floor toms, he is a true professional drummer and musician with decades of dedicated practice and experience; the basketball jerseys are fitting because he plays his drumkit like a pro athlete.

It’s crazy to me how well he keeps time while increasing force on rim shots while keeping the same strokes on that crazy sounding ‘tom’. His ability to pump the hi hat while hitting and mixing in every single drum is next level. I’m not a drummer. Please don’t hammer me for not knowing the terms. That said, great review!

Danny makes us realize just how mortal we really are...we could practice 12hrs a day for the rest of our lives, and still not be a tenth of what Danny Carey is. A true wonder that will be remembered for generations to come.
@joelbuff32542 жыл бұрын
I’ve been playing for thirty years, Danny’s level is an unrealistic goal. It’s not that he can play this, because all of the top 1% can, it’s that he wrote it. And also maybe not all of the top 1%. They’ve got some incredible metal drummers out there, faster than Danny, maybe even technically better. But none of them have his mind and sense of injecting his soul into the music.
@douglasdrain2 жыл бұрын
Danny is thee premier mathematician and technician. As you progress into the TOOL catalog, you’ll find many songs where Danny has the snares off. It’s just another thing that makes him so creative !!!

I’d recommend the Grudge with the outstanding outro next. Also, the greatest drums on Tool (apart from Pneuma I mean haha) will be definitely Rosetta Stoned, Ticks & Leeches, Lateralus and Forty Six & Two

If you can master smooth doubles with both hands and your feet then you can do just about anything on the kit and others will think your awesome even if your just okay. Smooth doubles are what you should be aiming to master. Mr. Carey you may never be, but you can still be impressive.

I love the Boston Celtics number 33 Jersey he is a true Bostonian at heart.
@fubar12172 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, that electronic pad under the ride (with the white playing surface) is a Korg Wave drum. Also, that's not a wood hoop on the snare. It's a bronze hoop to match the cast bronze shell. And yes, he's known for playing with the snares off. Danny used to play a kit made by Jeff Ocheltree that was made from melted down Paiste cymbals but I've heard it was insanely heavy. Great reaction man! Danny is a BEAST. Since you're a drummer, you should check out some of Matt Garstka's stuff with Animals As Leaders. He's another beast.

Fun facts of the octopus 1. He does all of this without a click track! He says you just have to put yourself out there and be vulnerable. 2. He uses a marching snare 3. He doesn’t use snare wires on his snare.

Thanks for the info man! Yea I recall thinking it was either very loose or just completely off. Love that sound for snares. Take it easy, dude!

Haha!! Welcome to our world, friend!! Now, please, please, please check out Primus. True musically enlightened fans the world over will concur, it doesn't get any better than Tool AND Primus. They are intrinsically linked as Danny Carey has played w Primus on tour, and Tim Alexander was the original drummer for A Perfect Circle. Both are Gods, and we've not even gotten to Les or Ler, yet. Go now, and listen to Tommy the Cat!

I ran backstage security for one of the venues on the tour where Danny drummed for Primus. The room was way smaller than Primus would normally play, but Riotfest was one of the owners of the venue. That's how we got Faith No More as well.
