Kinda like how I wrote The Call for League of Legends. Lead drums at 5 beats per second; secondary drums at 4 beats per second with the instruction for the second drummer to add in an extra beat of their own, per second so the two drummers meet in the middle. A fusion, of sorts.

The length of most tool songs are meant to detract ourselves from those that have an attention span where They have to pause because they can't backlog their thoughts that far. Kinda like goldfish. "Them fishes are so delicious, Gotta go Fishin'!"

The release of this album was epic. 13 years since their last release. Most younger people hadn't even heard of them, in part because Tool had kept their music off streaming platforms. Taylor Swift had just released a new album and had enjoyed a week of being at the top. And then... Fear Inoculum dropped *and* Tool released _their entire back catalog_ to streaming platforms. 19 of the top 20 streamed songs were Tool. Swift fans *flipped out.* Who was this band they'd never heard of and how did they have the mojo to absolutely crush Taylor Swift's new #1 hit with such weird, challenging music? For the record, I never heard any indication that Taylor Swift herself had any problems with Tool. But her fans were losing theirinds.

Angry vs. Floaty Tool. These guys are in their 50's. Danny was 58 when he recorded the drum cam vid. To paraphrase Maynard from an interview, when you get older, you have less to be angry about. They've grown; their lives have become more settled, and while most bands lose quality as they get older and settled, Tool evolves. Floaty Tool is the superior Tool because they can do Floaty Tool and Angry Tool; check out 7empest if you Don't believe me.

"What is that sound?" A little trick when listening to Tool is to remember that at some point every member of the band has/will apply different effects to their instrument. If you can hear drums and bass then the sound you're hearing is Adam playing through some type of special effect. It's very prominent on this album, in particular. Basically, listen for who you don't hear, and that's who's doing the sound you can't identify. 😁

I’d wait another 13 years for another TOOL album, no problem! This is absolutely part of their legacy! They damn near went Fibonacci on the number of years between albums (doubled up on 5, instead of 5 & 8, iirc), and their progression of talent has shown and shone through from the early, angry beginning, the changing of the guard (good riddance D’Amour), the existential spiritual awakening, the somber reflection, and finally the Zen Masterpiece. Never ever ever will any other artists affect me and effect the changes in my life the way these 4 absolutely have. Nor would I want any to. TOOL is my higher power. 🌀 spiral out, keep going 🌀

All the songs on this album are great, they become deeper and more enjoyable the more times you listen to them. Some fans complain Maynard just phoned in the vocals compared to all their other albums but I prefer to think he had a specific theme for this album and wasn't really keeping count of just how many words/lyrics it all adds up to. Descending is my favorite song off this album, I never get tired of it or the message behind it. Ha maybe it's because I am 60 now and more into meditative thinking than the angry emoting I loved about Tool back in the 90s when I was in my young 30s (though when I AM in that mood these days no one does it like Tool!) but all these songs off Fear Inoculum just send me into a deeper state. And I must confess I DO love toms and tabulas and 'tribal' drums, ha.

After waiting 13 years for it, I honestly couldn't help but smile while listening for at least the first couple weeks. I think it was embraced by the vast majority of fans, as it knocked Taylor Swift's album out of 1st place on the charts and they ended up winning a Grammy for 7empest. For me, after a 13 year wait, Fear Inoculum was a little jarring. It took a few listens before I knew if I liked it. Then, over the next few listens, it went from a tiny bit of disappointment, to my favorite. First Invincible became my favorite, then Pneuma, then Descending, then 7empest. Interesting fact about tool, researchers studied the brain activity in humans listening to certain genres and bands. Tool was the only one that caused a surge of activity in primal, instinctive, and usually dormant parts of the brain. Researchers believe that it's how the instruments are tuned, how the notes are set, and how the progression is played out.

People argue over whether Tool use synths, but that sounds you couldn't identify was a synth. Sometimes it's Adam. Sometimes it's Justin. In at least one song it's Danny. You can tell who's playing synth by which instrument isn't playing at the moment. Adam and Justin use a foot-operated setup, basically an analog synth with 13 foot pedals arranged like an octave of piano keys. You can see them playing the symth live, and Adam has specifically said that he uses a Moog Taurus so I don't understand why there's debate. Danny uses a Buchla Marimba Lumina Gold Edition as a midi controller for a Virus synth. You can see it behind him in your dates following Fear Inoculum's release. Apparently he plays it during Invincible. I've seen claims that he uses it in Chocolate Chip Trip. And it seems to me that the 7empest intro would be better suited for it than for Danny's Mandala pads. But I've read more than once that it's only featured on 1 song.
