I love a headboard that I can put my glasses on. A bottle of water, with a lid so bumping it and tipping it over won’t be a problem. Did you say you’re going to build a side railing for safety? They aren’t just for kids anymore. I’m 64 and I fell out of bed 3 times last year. The first drop out of bed wouldn’t be too bad. But an extra roll or a stumble standing up could be so dangerous!! Build a railing up there. Lol

I never comment about your "decorating" choices, however. How about building ground level drawers and placing the appliances on top of the storage drawer sets? You will get more storage and the appliances will be at a good height for counter work...................

When you get the stove pipe, it would not a bad idea to light the wood burner outside for the first time to burn off the surface chemicals they invariably have when new. Or open the door and window to make sure you have good air circulation the first time you light it.

It's interesting you should say that as I was just watching Tyler & Todd who went through the same thing with a wood burning stove.. What a great suggestion regarding burning off the new paint and chemical smells.

Might be a good idea to make first burn outside. There is probably oil or something similar on the surface of the burner and it might be quite smoky at first :-D

Might I suggest that you take your wood burner back outside before you hook it up and make the maiden burn outside. The new paint will stink up your home something awful. The fumes will not be good for you or the cats to breathe in either. I hope this helps.

Something I have learnt..... have the fridge at waist height helps prevent food from going to waste by being buried at the back for so long. Even just a foot off the ground helps. Also, have a cleanable splash back behind the cooker is worth it. and finally locking wheels/sliders for appliances makes cleaning really easy.

Bea & Theo have you thought of doing a stand below both the stove and oven. It will lift the oven so you don't have to stoop so far down when baking, but also there will be a space below to store pots & pans. Same with the fridge, if you put it up on a stand, again you don't have to stoop, but also there can be a space below to store cat food for Gingy Bear & Fernando. Just a thought from a person that is 5'3". Everything is looking spectacular, it's been so rewarding to see it from start to what you have achieved. So very proud of you both.

Theo, please do a burn in with the stove outside to let the smell wear off before you connect it indoors. I've burned Yotel stoves and Vermont castings and they all have a new smell that needs to be burned off. It's really stinky and will linger in the house a long time. 👍🏻🇺🇸

Theo, it may be worth checking that your timber is stored properly so that termites don't get into it. You wouldn't want them eating into the timber in your house and you could inadvertently introduce them if you're using the timber to make furniture. They are silent destroyers and something people from cold climates are not always aware of. The best way to attract termites is to leave timber lying around on the ground outside.

You guys are a delight! You glow with happiness :) As far as the function of the loft as a bedroom - just make the reasonable decision to turn the bed and place in the center of the space - safety first and everyone has enough room to get in/out of bed. Stairs to loft - not a ladder- place stairs against veranda wall. And your clothing - use your wonderful 'boutique spa bath house' and build walk-in closet-the "eureka!" game changer. I have lived off-grid tiny house and keeping the 'house' ( 180 square ft) open & simple was wonderful. Oh I envy you!!

Loft railing idea-black metal poles with metal cable lines. Paint the flu w heat resistant paint. Figure on the slab/brick stove stand to be a few feet out from the front of stove, who wants a scarred floor from embers? Elevate the refrigerator on a storage cabinet. Separate the stove and fridge. Fridge, far from stove regarding heat issues. Bed could have a storage style headboard, frame stained dark for contrast.
