Jamie Griffin's tre flip is like that because he learned how to tre flip on a carpet and the scooping motion wouldn't have worked, hence why it's different.

I think the reverting/slides are fine as long as it’s done clean and swiftly in one fluid motion. But maybe there’s a trick where it’s excessive like on a 360 where it’s like an Ollie 360 pivot on back wheels lol
@OrderSnacks Жыл бұрын
Yeah, to do a proper revert you have to land comfortably and add more effort/energy to a trick, and usually in an awkward way like the fakie hard revert. Definitely counts as a flatground trick as long as it’s set with a proper, and fast revert imo. Though of course it’s situational. Luan’s was good

The fakie hard 180 was so steezy it counts in my mind, Luan has so much style he makes even a bad trick hard to hate. How hard he goes at his tricks and how seamless they look are why a lot of people like him, and by comparison Jamie looks slow and sloppy but his consistency is INSANE. I would argue some of JGs makes should have been missed but he saved them with balance the same way Luan saves his with style.

There are only 2 people capable of beating Jamie Griffin. Spencer Barton is the best candidate to beat Jamie. In BATB 12 this achievement gets 4 letters. He being the only one so far to achieve that. And be careful, they were 4-1, Spencer because he trolled and Jamie came back epically. Still I bet if he faces off again. It's certainly a sure win for Spencer. (It also gives him much more advantage to see the tricks that he put and paid Chirs Chan in that Game of Skate) Tyler Peterson is another great candidate. Last year in the final it certainly seemed too close until Jamie started to take the lead. Plus he didn't get nervous about the crowd or anything. We see how he gets even in the finals. He may surprise us or he may fall again to a powerful Jamie. I would like to mention Giger but I don't understand how someone so excellent in the field could lose so easily. I know there are many factors at play, but he is stupid. It was assumed that at least he was going to go to the second round, but no. he again he fell again in the first one. Giger could easily reach the final with the tricks he knows how to do. He has plenty of death blows to use or can even make a 5-0 with the first 5 tricks if he wants to but he doesn't like to play this way. This will be a little strange but it would be a Dream Match to see PJ Ladd from season 6 vs Jamie from season 12/current. Who knows how much distance there is between these monsters. But just watching the Prod vs PJ Ladd or the Moose vs PJ Ladd lets me know who will be the obvious victor. Although Jamie also faced many titants in these 2 editions. 5 - 0 sewa, 4 letters to Luan in a row, 5 - 0 zach, 5 - 2 cole in the semifinals and so on. only 1 person has gotten 4 letters...

@paulanthony1689 Жыл бұрын
After watching this tournament for years, here is my way of organizing the data: You have four main groups of skaters: the ones that have the unusual/ difficult tricks but aren't consistent (can't handle the pressure), or don't have the basics (e.g. Anderson, Giger); you have the super consistent basic guys that lack the "daggers" (e.g., Joslin, PJ); the guys that lack consistency and difficulty (the ones you wonder what were doing in the tournament in the first place); and the guys that have all the tricks and then the daggers too. The last type usually wins (e.g. Jamie, Cody) but as we saw with Joslin and PJ, consistency can win too
@andreww4751 Жыл бұрын
PJ and Joslin definitely have "daggers"..
@RobL350 Жыл бұрын
I don't know if you've even been watching but guys like Jamie do not have all the tricks, just insane daggers which is why once he gets on offense he quickly sets the difficult tech tricks. It's also why he misses fundamental tricks in the straight 16 for example regularly.
@RobL350 Жыл бұрын
@@andreww4751 Yep this commenter doesn't know what he's talking about, he can't notice PJ, Joslin have past their prime (in years past they have all tricks+ daggers), and Jamie doesn't have crazy consistency/all the tricks. You'd know these 2 facts with basic level observation. I don't think he watches.
@RealSurfStories Жыл бұрын
Solid call. I would put Cody and Sewa in the first category. If they could harness their nerves (like we have seen each of them do before) they would be nearly unbeatable. Recently it's been easy to tell right out of the gates if they are in their own heads or not in the first few flicks. They almost always are, which shows the unquantifiable yet crucial aspect of the pressure. Can't imagine the frustration for those two when they miss basic tricks and it snowballs.

I think Cole is still as deserving as any. His first game was as good as a finals match against Suciu. To beat him alone was insane at over 40 years old, because Suciu would have mopped most of the other first round skaters and has the ability to take the whole thing. I agree Cole has had a full career of everything you can accomplish in skating already, but if no one can stop him at age 41 that ain’t his fault. Personally wanted to see how far Suciu would’ve gone, but he encountered a final boss first try. Hope Suciu returns Edit: would like to add that Cole accepting Vallely’s grab tricks is more impressive and likely harder than regular flat ground game, due to how niche and difficult they can be. jamie vs luan was such a great game to watch! they are both so exceptional but in completely different ways, and while it has nothing to do with skateboarding skill, it is just that much more enjoyable to watch a game in which both skaters seem to be having fun, learning from each other, showing respect and admiration and warmth, and these two guys are the epitome of that. the pre-game teaser with luan saying that he likes how jamie has fun skating while jamie says he's a huge fan of luan's (who isn't?) was almost endearing really. that being said, i am not looking forward at all to watch jamie vs tyler. tyler's good, yes, but just not fun to watch. not even his amazing skills make me want to root for him, ever. i would be happy to see jamie battle either cole or nick holt as long as tyler doesn't get to the championship match. all in all, the bracket made the whole tournament kind of underwhelming. i wish this would be taken into consideration for the years to come, but i'm not optimistic or hopeful. it's more likely that they'll keep on doing the bare minimum and, silly as we are, we'll keep on watching and talking about it and validating their lousy work. 🤡

Jamie does more of a pressurised tre flip. Yes, his switch tre is a bit worse, but not by much actually. He can switch tre for sure. The switch front 360 isn't a weakness. Not as long as skaters are allowed to revert that much. I think the rules shouldn't be changed for the revert issue. Yes, it would be more clean if a 180 or 360 is done 'in air' only, but I feel a lot of people can't do the full 180/360 stuff fully popped, which would add more chance. What I'm saying is that this would allow for exploiting the rules by doing only 180/360 tricks in hopes of the other skater to never do it high enough in air.... I mean, it's kind of why they don't allow for manuals, right? Too much of a specialists type trick.
