My worry is that the team has been challenging three seasons now and some players have overstayed their usefulness. The problem is the manager is so selective in how he is ruthless and wants total control. I do not think Arteta can manage players who have a chip on their shoulder. The club takes so much time to move players and then we always looking at ex Chelsea or Man city players. We also are poor at recruitment as we buy player who are injury prone.

I will give him the summer to see if he upgrades the attack, I get wanting to build the foundation from the back and in the middle, I think that has largely worked because on the whole our defense has been our best asset it's just unfortunate this season we have had so many injuries to the back line. @@antw06 also in regards to Liverpool and city not having holes in their squad, city have no proper back up for rodri or haaland, an injury to either is a nightmare and because they haven't gotten back up for rodri they have fallen off a cliff this season, Liverpool don't have much back up in the midfield and are an injury or 2 away from a crisis in that position, they don't have a quality back up for Salah either, no team has perfect backup options and tbh the way Arteta has purchased defenders who can play multiple positions is a big reason why we have managed ok this season despite so many players being injured.

Very informed discussion. Thank you. I'd be interested to hear your views on the qualities of our midfield. For me, there isn't the trickery to go past a player and then create the space for a through pass, or enough vision. Rice, Merino, Partey, Giorginho are all solid but not consistently creative enough. You didn’t talk in this show about Nwaneri. Isn’t he the kind of spark we need in midfield? At present it's all too predictable and slow in the build up because nobody in midfield can go past a player.

My theory of why Arteta hasn’t bought a top top striker or left winger yet is that he builds his squad like he plays his football. Think about it. He has a 5 stages roadmap to go from a squad of (almost nobody) he wants to his dream team. He can’t obviously buy all the players at once. So he starts to strengthen the defence first. And the midfield. He bought Jesus too. And then back ups for defence and midfield, just in case we need them (do we need them? Looks like we do right now ) No one could have expected Jesus falling off a cliff during the building process. Havertz needs to step in and does okay. The club can’t spend endlessly money and there are also market opportunities that one has to take. And the lack of market opportunities too. We are not at stage 5 yet, are we? Calafiori and Merino were opportunities last window. Calafiori is the future and has potential to be world class and Merino is a winner. You have to take them. What striker was really available? What LW? And let’s not forget that Martinelli could have been a really good player, even though it doesn’t look like it right now. And let’s not forget that we are really unlucky this year. That’s no excuse, it’s a fact. You can’t ignore that. The amount of injuries start to become ridiculous. Ødegaard is playing with a painful foot. Nwaneri is a bit too young, but he needs space in the squad. Anyway. I think we are on the right track. Once we are at stage 5 and we don’t start winning trophies, I‘ll start to question Arteta. I agree overall with the shortcomings mentioned - the striker thing just seems silly... why doesn't Arsenal have a top class striker yet? But I think the question of being a "one half team" or "half season team" was a little unrealistic. Maybe dominating more of one game makes sense - dominating for 70 minutes would be nice. But we've got to remember that being consistently dominant over the course of a 9-10 month season is very rare. We've looked at Man City as the standard of what a "great team" does, but they are not normal. It is unrealistic to expect teams to dominate for a whole season. Liverpool is leading the league, and we are all saying we think they will drop off some because that is to be expected. Even top, top teams have rough patches in most seasons. Personally, I worry that if we don't win something this year, we will find it incredibly difficult to keep some of our stars. When do Saliba, Saka, Gabriel, and others start looking elsewhere if they can't win at Arsenal? We MUST complete the cycle with this squad. To not do it would be criminal.

No matter what anyone says about him, he was bought to replace Xhaka - it was a ridiculously arrogant and unnecessary move by Arteta to try and ‘rescue’ Havertz and make him do something he hadn’t proved in this league. I'm sorry, but Arteta should be judged for his overall tenure and not a game-ten games-this or last season. And his overall work is simply not good enough. Patience, trust, money - those were 3 major investments into his cadence and he didn't provide THE RESULT. YES, we improved, but after all these multiple steps forward, we somehow make almost the same amount of steps back, which doesn't sound like much of improvement. MY lowest bar of acceptance is a Carabao/FACup whilst challenging for the title. And that was the expectation even BEFORE our controversial transfer window. Anything BUT - he just has to be sacked or go himself. We spoken about these problems a lot: Transfers (overpaying and shocking OUT business), Scouting (are the players we sign, good enough, espacially in the long run), Artetastein Experiments (Players our of positions: Zinchenko, Calafiori, Partey, Rice, Tomiyasu and arguably Timber, White, Trossard, Jesus, Havertz and even Martinelli). Same mistakes - year in, year out.

Odegard is the blame.That's how I see it. Captain Playmaker constantly played only, or 90% of the time, on the right hand of the field. His distribution is very poor unless he is playing with Saka. You keep plaming the left side when playing in front of the Ukrainian; even if it was saka will become lower level. The tactics and slow energy did affect the performance. Arteta, if he doesn't win the league this year, I don't want to see him pass this year. The players need a different world-class manager; hire Klob. He is the man.
