How you train or provide feedback to your employees is on you but recording it for you tube is not cool and reflects poorly on you as an employer and as a human being. He is 17 as you once were! Not gonna support such content!

With the greatest of respect as a long time viewer I do not agree with this video in the slightest. At the age of 17 anyone would hate to have a permanent video online being publicly shamed about their work. I don’t think it’s necessary at all to have done it this way, why not sit him down privately to have this chat. I think it was particularly distasteful to say repeatedly, Cameron come back! This boy in his first proper job probably, will have to sit and watch this and I imagine have his confidence knocked terribly. To call him lazy in my view is awful. He may have had an off day but to call him lazy, he’s a 17 year old who has got himself a job, got out there to work in a morning and hasn’t picked any easy job by any stretch of the imagination. There are many 17 year olds who wouldn’t be doing that, let’s just hope the video gets edited to take out these comments for the sake of him

I enjoy your videos and your standards and how hard you work. I listened right to end to where you were doing you voice over after the pictures had ended as you asked. However regardless of the words at the end I was very uncomfortable with your speaking about Elias in a critical manner on camera. But beyond that, I think this is something that should be said to him face to face and not to others and definitely not behind his back. Regardless the nature of the job and regardless whether or not it is filmed. To me its bad form, I would hate someone discussing me like that ( God forbid that would ever be necessary). To earn respect you have to give respect and this doesn't not apply because he is 17. The onus is on you to lead by example not just in the work but in how the team is dealt with. To add, I have read a lot of comments with differing viewpoints but what struck me as most ironic is that all the critical or comments that questioned your comments on Elias have not been hearted by yourself. No one likes public criticism, including you. There is a lesson there if you allow yourself to learn it.

Very weird video vibe, i originally watched this channel for the cleaning aspect and because you seemed like an 'okay' kind of person, not at all comfortable with a child's work ethic being discussed on a public forum, irrespective of the fact you're a boss, you're an adult he's not. Why would you even put this online? I'd never criticise my employees online, its just bullying, but when they're under 18....YIKES. Good luck with your everything, obviously not for me anymore.

Sid love your channel and I hate to criticise but... as an employer you shouldn't publicly bad mouth an employee. Trust me I understand how bloody irritating teenage boys can be, telling them the same information and expecting them to retain it is pretty much Mission Impossible, it does go in eventually but it can be a bit of a slog. Professionally it should be kept to yourself not broadcast to the public.

Yeah Sid be extremely careful about what is said on these videos, I'm especially referring the first video title. Employment law is same regardless of whether you need him or not or how big or small the company is. And as an avid viewer I immediately had my 'back out' when watching from the beginning of the video over that first title. But we didn't see anything wrong like you said you didn't like, not that we should as that is a private employement matter, but it then in turn doesn't show you in the best light, i.e moaning. Poor Elias has HUGE shoes to fill. Cam's spoiled you for any other guy. I hope he's doing well. As a person who is slow to learn but then becomes superb at what I do and could train then supervise others, I can see both sides. I know I frustrated some bosses and got fired for those jobs that couldn't wait on me. The ones that that could afford the patience got a worker who craved learning all bits, suggested efficiency changes and cared for tools as though I wouldn't get any others. It was also a tricky bit of learning on my part what ways of teaching reaches each person best. He's just out of school so maybe he knows best how he learns and can tell you? If you can spare the time, a proper sit down with him? You'd like him to be part of the cleaning family, right? Time spent might be well spent. You'll decide if you can wait on him to learn, each individual develops in their own time.

I have been watching this channel for a good long time, and I understand employees come and go and you have built this up from nothing and you have every right to be as proud of it as you are. I do have to admit though it can be very discouraging to an employee if he comes onto youtube and hears you saying these things about him on public internet. I will admit I do not think your expectations are as high as you seem to think, your expectation is merely for him to show up and do his job and do it with professional conduct around your clients, nothing about that is unreasonable in anyway, but it can be very discouraging and disheartening for an employee to hear these things from their employer and know that thousands of other people heard you griping about him...I fully beleive it was unprofessional of you to complain about him like this where everyone can see it all the while you are upset about his professionalism. I hope he still finds a way to adjust and that the job grows on him. we all have the potential for greatness if its not preceeded by negativity.

Really enjoy your videos and the team interactions. Must admit I was surprised that you left in the conversation with Kev. Comparing Ilya with Cameron is like apples and oranges. He’s 17 and just starting out. It’s great that he clicked you were displeased with him and was confident enough to ask what he could do better. 3 weeks on the job is hardly any time. It’s a steep learning curve and physically demanding job. Most employees will not work as hard as someone who has a vested interest in the business doing well. Just like Ilya you are new to being a boss. Because you have such a great relationship with Kev that you don’t have to coach him in work ethic and job skills. Everything takes time. Ilya seems a smart lad and I think you will find he will grow with the role. And your experience and knowledge on how to be a boss will evolve too. It would be a rare person that 3 weeks into a new job that someone is doing the job at the speed and with the skill of somebody who’s been in the industry for a number of years. If you were being even handed between your two employees then you should be having a word with Kev that he has been working with Ilya for 3 weeks. The fact that he can’t get remember his colleagues name is not exactly welcoming and could be part of the reason that the lad struggles to be bright and shiny every work hour. No one is perfect everyday. Am sure 17 yr old Sid didn’t have the work skills and drive that you have now. Please keep private conversations about work performance and wage rates private as discussing them publicly is a breach of privacy. This footage is now on the internet forever.

At the end of the video Sid explained that the young man, fronted up and acknowledged he wasn't having a good day...Unfortunately that part wasn't caught on camera as I'm sure Sid would have included part of it at least. As an employer especially a customer facing one, first and last impressions are everything, more so when the customer is on site all the time. It's not an easy thing to do but one of the life skills that Ilyas is picking up is leaving any mood or downer "in the van". As I say the fact that Sid tells us he owned it and acknowledged his poor morning tells me he will learn from it.

I truly feel that talking about your employees negatively on camera is something you should avoid. Especially if the employee in question is still just a teenager. I totally get the frustrations you had, and I'm not saying you shouldn't have them, I'm saying I don't think its appropriate for them to become public knowledge. You were upset that He wasn't being as professional as you feel is appropriate in front of your client (among other things), but at the same time you said it in front of the camera and posted it online "in front of" your subscribers. We are a type of "client" and I feel like you would never have said those things if you knew your client was right there listening to every word, so why would you post it online for the rest of your "clients" to see and hear. As much as I love seeing your job, I don't think that part of your job should be shown.

Hopefully this comes across as constructive rather than keyboard warrior. He didn't look too well in the early clips, looked like he was suffering from sun stroke or something, make sure he get some fluids into him and send him home if need be, best option for both parties from a financial and productivity point of view, get him rested and well to get kick started again. He will also get the message that he will be sent home if not at 80% of higher of productivity. I would never criticise a 17 year old on a forum like this though as that could stick with him for any future employer as a reference, I understand it not as bad as a prison sentence on a record but still can stay with someone if they have been on camera. It is likely one of his first ever jobs so needs to learn expectations of an employer, likewise as an new employer/manager it will take time to find the right balance yourself. Also be careful, you are the employer so ensure you have employer liability insurance not just cleaning insurances as documented feedback could come back to hurt your business later on under constructive dismissal claims if things unfortunately don't work out with an employee. Sounds like you were encouraging in the way you dealt with it with him directly later in the day but just be careful as not everyone will watch the whole video in this day and age. Also, please remember it doesn't matter if someone is 17 or 85, always pay the right money for the job role, age discrimination regardless of the outdated government policies on 17 to 21 year olds earning less per hour for the same job. Set employees up for success and they will be successful! Or as @binflynn1 says, just don't be an employer, less stress! 😀 Good luck with the business!

Great job, looking forward to the finish. Nice house, will be much better all cleaned up. At 17 kids are at the bottom of the curve with the work ethic. I liked the whole job video and agree about the 17 year old. Remember that he is not as work hardened as you and Kevin. It’s the 29 to 21 year olds with experience who can start running rings around other workers. The younger people don’t understand what is required. Cameron was older and had the motivation to start his own business. That’s the difference.😊

Do more like this! Its a great watch and love hearing the banter and the wisdom although perhaps be a little less harsh with Ellyas. Though his attitude stunk in this video he is young and is still finding his feet. Life isnt always perfect everyday for all of us and you must remember that we are human. You must not forget this. Compassion is a staple. Its good to vent frustrations but perhaps best to explain how you are feeling towards the one who is being a bother. Love is freedom. Much love

Word of warning it's not very professional to be P&M to clients about your employees and on video. If you weren't on the poor lads ass every second he might feel more valued and have more incentive to work harder. Maybe you intimidate him? I know myself when someone keeps on at me I tend to F up more! So give the lad some slack he's doing his best.

Good on Ilyas for asking for feedback and taking it in stride. Keep in mind that at that age, you're not only learning a new job, you're learning how to have a job, and he's also stuck between a coworker who's been mispronouncing his name for three weeks, and a boss who's telling his 170k KZbin audience everything he's done wrong. I absolutely feel your frustration, having to train people right out of high school myself, and I appreciate your recognition of his progress. I love your videos, thanks for your work!

I don’t think you did anything wrong in a private context of this video. Having a reputation and demanding hard work from your workers is totally fine. And having a chat about that with the worker and even some private moaning is fine. I think that changes when you make it public for hundreds of thousands of people to potentially see. Airing a 17 year old out too your near 200k subs and having a little moan about what you pay him is best kept behind the scenes I think. The higher pay seems fair to me as well considering the additional revenue your making off the kid as well. Not only do you get his labor but you also are getting the content produced by him for your KZbin videos/Patreon as well. Even in this video you are getting additional camera angles from him. A video on teaching an apprentice. Your original spicy KZbin title to generate clicks for algorithm. All this to say you aren’t a bad guy or anything. I just think this was a bit of misstep.

Being the boss means cracking the whip when needed - OTK in the old days - but hopefully Elias will ward off the axe. It's all on him. This video really shows how physically demanding the work is as well as the responsibility you take on for the owner's property. Add to that the constant concern for health and safety of everyone on sight right down to the helpful homeowner and animals on the property. I only need high quality, storm tight roof shingles (hurricane proof) that need replacement after 30 years. Although they are maintenance free, they are not close to being as aesthetically pleasing as the roofs you care for and maintain. Beautiful result! Can't wait to see the rest of the job.

As someone who at 17 tried the world of manual labour (tree surgeon) I was a kid really when I look back I was very young. I was not mature enough lacked self confidence. I was bulled by the other lads and looked out of place. I now know that I have a number of neurodiverse conditions including ADHD. I think this didn't help me at the time as now I think about it I had to be doing varied tasks and challenged. I was sacked 6 months into my time there having broken two fingers and seen a horrific life changing chainsaw accident. I still have the mental scars. I would urge you to carry on as you are and motivate, praise and encourage. You might be suprised in the long run.
