In order for any meaningful development to take place, you need a solid foundation to work behind. The bears repeat this bs with every QB they take. It’s an excuse as to why they’re losing. “The fans will just blame the QB, and we’ll be off the hook for another season. Thing is this…the Bears saved Fields career by letting him go to Pitt. Fields is showing what he can become with a steady o-line. Pretty darn accurate at that. No flashy numbers, but Pittsburgh isn’t asking him for flashy numbers. They want him to competently run the offense, and don’t turn the ball over. I’m definitely not trying to sing his praises, but he’s doing exactly what he wasn’t doing for the bears. Wonder why it is the best QB’s always play behind the best o-lines….. I mean, common sense dictates that the o-lines are precisely what dictate what the offense can and can’t get accomplished. Great qb’s might be able to carry a few wins, but in the end, those games take a lot out of that QB, lead to injuries, and introduces a lot of bad habits.

He was huge, 6'4", 220, and held the QB rushing record for years!

Ryan Poles has done little to fix the problems on the Bears O-Line. Darnell Wright is a Right Tackle drafted in the top-10, not a Left Tackle, while their LT Braxton Jones was a 5th rounder in 2022. In last year's draft they drafted Kiran Amegadjie, a Tackle coming off a serious quad injury (a common theme among Bears O-Line picks in the last 16 years) instead of a Center which they are now desperate for. Additionally, they're playing Tevin Jenkins out of position at Guard instead of Tackle and threw a ton of money at OG Nate Davis to be hurt or unavailable half the time. So yeah, the Bears O-Line sucks right now and can't pass protect or run block effectively.

The Colts kill me because everyone said things like "COLTS ALMOST WON DIVISION WITH MINSHEW" but it isn't like he's guaranteed to be a steady improvement over him on a reliability level. Which is a massive indictment because Minshew is not exactly the safest with the ball. So now you got a guy who can unreliably throw massive deep strikes, and who can be ground down badly by a run game. So you're just going to get destroyed in TOP, you can't control the clock at all, can't stop the run when you know it is coming, and you are relying on a QB who can be electric but could throw a pick at any time? You're fucked. I don't think Richardson is a writeoff but I just disliked how people would talk about how Richardson led Colts were a guaranteed upgrade just like the Bears where they just assume you plop a rookie, and Richardson is still essentially a rookie, into a roster and you win +2 more games somehow. And that was with one of THE most pathetic run games last year. Legitimately go look at Houston’s rushing success. It was abysmal. Collins was better than assumed sure, but Stroud and the receivers were still balling out behind the most injured offensive line in league history last year. I’m sorry but if you think Stroud wasn’t exceptional last year you’re a blind homer that will never be convinced by anything. Can Richardson be incredible? Sure. Eventually. And that’s only a possibility. The fact is he threw two bombs that were successful because Houston has a suspect safety group and the amount of meat he leaves on the bone one every series will cost you games. Already cost them twice now. The assumption you can just fix accuracy is absurd at this point, and no I don’t think you can’t improve it but he has shown zero ability to layer passes. And I’m not even getting into the possibility he gets hurt again. You can love Richardsons potential all you like because I do get it. But Indy fans need to accept its potential. He just lost to Malik Willis and threw 3 picks. It’s exactly like I said, if you have a mediocre safe qb that never happens and you win that game but guess what you don’t you have a prayer heaver in Indy right now. He’s got tons of potential sure but people have been glazing Richardson almost as much as Stroud yet only one has shown he can perform week in and week out.

@@JM-md4ri they just see the 70 yard bombs (which are impressive) and then just think okay we need to correct his lack of accuracy elsewhere… easier said than done. Colts fan here. I think a lot of Richardson’s issues have been made worse by the defense losing the time of possession game so much. He’s raw and not a polished passer, so you expect that you are going to get 3 and outs and maybe even a turnover but his explosiveness means that given enough bites at the Apple, he probably rips a huge run or gets a big pass and then you are in better shape. When you give him 20 minutes with the ball and he’s behind all the time, you are basically forcing him to put on the Superman cape and he can do that, but he can’t do it consistently because he’s basically a rookie, not year 6 Josh Allen. I think gus Bradley’s defensive concepts are just outdated. He runs the same shit all the time, and that doesn’t work when you haven’t prioritized top tier defensive talent. You can put some blame on Ballard for not getting good backfield help, but seriously what’s the point of a coordinator if not to make adjustments? If they get the ball run down their throat again I think his seat gets hot, if it already isn’t. I think Steichen feels that way too, I am willing to bet there are entire chapters in his playbook he hasn’t been able to look at because he has to play from behind constantly. In both games the colts were basically behind the entire time. That makes it hard when you know your quarterback is at his worse right now when you are forced to do 10 passes for 6-7 yards a piece to march down the field and scores, so you have to play big high variance plays and sometimes everyone is in awe of the nutty 65 yard pass or left scratching their head at a bad interception. Just my take
@soulknife20Ай бұрын
Also, AR has a cannon for an arm. There were multiple passes that were on target, they just came in too hot to handle for the receiver to catch. That's not an accuracy issue. It's a touch issue.
@ericcyliax5613Ай бұрын
@@soulknife20 I have said the same, he never seems to miss the receiver any other way than by overthrowing the ball. They need to literally have days of practice where he has to throw with touch. Just keep putting him in scenarios where you cant just rocket it in there over and over again until he gets more natural at it. im talking have him throw short slants on time for 8 hours straight. Have a receiver literally stand behind someone and make him loft it to the receiver. He is great at a lot of things, if you can fix that lack of touch and control on the power he probably goes up 10% completion percentage. Which isnt actually that much, its 1 more throw in 10

@richardbullwood5941Ай бұрын
And people who know ball also understand that you can absolutely destroy a quarterback by throwing him in the fire too quickly. Anthony Richardson is lost. He cannot read defenses, he cannot make adjustments, he can't hit wide open receivers, and after three games, you can see he has no ability to throw the rountree. Long bombs and floating screens are the only things he can do. He couldn't hit a 15-yard slant to save his life. Instead of developing and making up for the lack of experience he has in his career, he was thrown into the fire too quickly. You fall in love with his abilities and his measurables, but you make the classic greedy mistake. A quarterback can fail so badly that he can never be built up correctly. He would have been better off this season behind Joe Flacco
@Reggie717Ай бұрын
@@richardbullwood5941 you mean like bryce young? Because im not seeing that. Its not pretty but i think hes shown confidence and the ability to make plays. Theres no reason to believe he cant develop the same way lamar jackson or josh allen have.
@richardbullwood5941Ай бұрын
@Reggie717 Shown confidence? Have you watched the last three games? He was shaking almost visually yesterday. He decides where he's going to throw the football whether there's a receiver or a defender there, and again, the only pass plays he completes are chucking a ball down the field or floating a screen. You can see the fear in his eyes. You can see there's no ability to read a defense. He overthrows wide open receivers by 10 yds. He is completing under 50% of his passes, and has twice as many interceptions as touchdowns. And he wasn't any better in college! This is what happens when you are blinded by measurables, but you ignore the fact that someone cannot play. He has yet to demonstrate that he can throw over half the route tree and even read a defense. His mechanics are horrible. He is a couple of seasons away from being an NFL starter if ever. After three games, he has shown a complete failure to even throw a 15-yard slant. I mean, come on. He has a qbr of less than 50. These aren't rookie mistakes, this isn't the game moving too fast. This is a mechanical inability to throw completions. Take away the stuff with training wheels like screen passes, and take away the one or two long bombs a game, and it's even worse than that. We are last in the league in time of possession. Because of the way he plays his position
@Reggie717Ай бұрын
@@richardbullwood5941 your blinded by your hate. Its not rookie mistakes? Its only his his 7th full game, didnt play or practice almost all last year, but it is his second year technically so i guess your right? The games not moving too fast? Because it sounds like your just repeating a bunch of the same casual fan favorites. This is what it is for the next 3 years, get used to it
@richardbullwood5941Ай бұрын
@Reggie717 Hate? where in the world are you getting that? That's really odd, since I laid out statistics, empirical data, and observations of the game. He was overdrafted, dude. He barely played college football, and he wasn't that great in college. He completed under 50% of his passes at florida. And like I said before, he is clearly a developmental project that had no business starting immediately. He's completing under 50% of his passes, throws twice as many interceptions as touchdown passes, has a qbr of under 50, and has absolutely no ability to throw the football other than long bombs and floating screen passes. Have you watched the games have you seen him overthrow wide open receivers? I'm not talking about once or twice, I'm talking about every single time. Of course he does not read defenses. He doesn't even pay any attention to where Defenders are. He panics, and throws the football. Do you know anything about throwing mechanics? He throws off of his back foot with a sidearm motion. There is no accuracy to that. He's behind receivers, over the head of receivers, and has no ability to throw ends, outs, slants, or comebacks. With the lack of experience in college and very questionable success, there is absolutely no way he should have been given the starting job right out of the gate. He is probably the best example of Someone Who blinded coaches and personnel management with his measurables, but yet where has the on-field success bin it wasn't in college, and he's looking out of his depth in the pros. You can look at his eyes. You can watch him stare down receivers, and you can watch his body language every time he overthrows a wide open receiver or throws an interception. The man is lost. Do you know what a route tree is? Have you ever seen him have the ability to complete an intermediate pass? The only thing you have said that's in any way correct is the fact that we are probably going to look at this for the next two or three years. He was incredibly overdrafted in the top five. And I stand by my comment that he should be on the bench learning from Joe flacco. He was a question mark before he ever took the field. If you can't lay down successful tape in college, how in the world are you supposed to do it at the professional level? The first three games of this season speak for themselves. The Colts are last in time of possession, because that's what stopping the clock with incompletions gets you. All you have to do against the Colts is play The Run and drop a couple safeties deep. The only reason they beat the Bears yesterday is because the Bears have their own train wreck at quarterback they took with the first pick. In the meantime, Justin fields, their former quarterback, is seeing incredible success with the steelers. You don't have to be in someone's head to see results. I'm 53 years old, I've watched the game my entire life, and I watched my son play through the college level. It is easy to identify a player that simply out of their depth. Anthony Richardson is not going to improve throwing 50+ yard bombs. Not when you can't complete a 15-yard slant.

I've also been thinking about it, and as of right now, I think the Broncos have the second worst receiving situation in the NFL, in front of the Rams who have lost both of their starters.
