The thing is Super Bowl takes an insane amount of luck and the right breaks. But sometimes I wonder if it's destiny. Aaron Rodgers took over in Green Bay in 2008. He's only won one Super Bowl and that was in 2010. As good as he is he's proof that you need a complete team around you to win it all. The biggest concern for Buffalo is that they rely too much on Josh to win every game. There was one game this year, and I can't think off the top of my head whom it was against but the Bills ran the ball effectively. I though that they had turned a corner but they went out the next week and again put the offense on Josh's shoulders.

My Dad told me that winning isn’t always about two sides who could win, but rather one good team and one bad team. Last year, Davis and Chase weren’t great against the Chiefs, he just took advantage of the poor defensive back team the Chiefs had last year. We had cornerbacks literally tripping and leaving their receivers wide open. I believe Davis didn’t drop off from last year, he just is what he is: a decent receiver. From a Chiefs fan.

Now granted, my Eagles also lost & "Choked" a bit on Defense, but our season was successful, we won a playoff game and the division, which was our preseason expectations, We Went to the SB and Lost. @Colbias14 the defense blew the Superbowl but the Preseason Favorites were the Bucs & The Bills Followed by the Packers & Chiefs and The Rams & Bengals. Eagles had the 13th Best Odds to win the Superbowl. Eagles did their Job, when you lose the Superbowl By 1 Score to another one seed it's not "blowing it" or "choking". You ran into a better coach, and got outschemed. Chiefs weren't some hapless nobodies like the Bengals Last Year. They were 14-3. Bills had Everything set up to benefit them, they even got OT Rules changed for them cause they cried that they couldn't win a coin toss, and they even had a Neutral Site AFCCG planned for them, and they absolutely choked. Got blown out on their home field, in their weather conditions, vs the Bengals. 10 Points. Now that's a choke. Losing to Mahomes 38-35 in a SB isn't blowing it. It's a failure. It's coming up short, something your poverty Bills know all about. But I forgot, you guys won your SB in Week 6.

Allen throws haymakers where simply jabbing or gaging reach would suffice. Sometime you need to sustain drives to keep your offensive unit geling, while your defense rests, even if you only come away with 3 pts. Instead he'll attempt to ALWAYS make a play when the Bills are often times in a comfortable position. This postseason exposed this a lot. Their formula works to win with their current roster but against good teams you have to play tighter
@SlimTim222
@SlimTim222 Жыл бұрын
You’re right about the haymakers vs. jabbing, but it wasnt all on Allen’s decision making. McKenzie was supposed to step into Beasley’s short slant role and provide Allen with that short gain security blanket. He just couldn’t do it. Dorsey’s play calling didn’t scheme guys open either.

Excellent analysis of the Bills roster. I’d love to hear your thoughts from a coaching/strategy point of view. I’m a Bills fan, but the reality is their window may already be closed. Jax and Miami look like the next serious contenders in the AFC, not to mention the Jets, Ravens, New England, and even Pittsburgh. If Tennessee can get a decent QB they’re also right up there. Playing a brutal first place schedule next season, Buffalo will certainly be challenged to get back to the divisional round, let alone to the Super Bowl. If they stand pat on player and coaching personnel, it’s almost guaranteed they will finish on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

If James Cook was a good NFL running back, he would’ve showed it this year. Almost every good running back in NFL history has been good from the moment they stepped on the field, because it is a position that transfers almost seamlessly to the NFL from college. Some of the points in the video have pretty obvious answers. Gabe Davis is a simply not a good route runner underneath like Diggs or Jeudy. He doesn't create the same separation as those guys, his cuts aren't as crisp, etc. He can give you some big play ability but he isn't going to give you reliable WR2 production. Saffold used to be pretty good in both phases early in his career, both at Tackle and when he eventually moved inside. But his last couple years in Tennessee you could already see the writing on the wall. Yea his pressure numbers were low but that's because the Titans throw it like 12 times a game. He saw nearly 800 snaps in pass pro this season, with a QB who likes to extend the play. He saw roughly 500 each of the last 2 seasons in Nashville. His PFF grades for pass pro dropped significantly in 2020 and then again in 2021. That wasn't going to improve by this point in his career. It was his run blocking that also tanked, showing if he plays anywhere in 2023 it should be for a team with a power run game and not a pass first zone system. This was just a bad signing. And the only issue with Von is his health. He had 45 pressures and 8 sacks in just over 10 games. That's on pace for 70 pressures and 13 sacks in a 17 game season. Dude was fine and will be fine again at that salary, if healthy.

I agree, offensive line is lacking, definitely in need of a receiver and running back. Defensively, Frazier has been consistent, the only problem I’ve seen from our D was the lack of pressure on any QB? even when VM was active on the roster they did get some penetration, not like we should be. Milano is a beast!! He’s a speed man a good spy sitting around the line. He’s had some good pressure and is productive every snap. We need some big bodies that can put pressure on the quarterback and stop the run. We fill them gaps and we are a solid team. I also think Dorsey needs to create some new plays or get someone in there who can get this offense clicking again. We are a passing team, with one solid receiver, Knox has taken up a lot of the slack. Beasley should have been used more, he has always been a great go to on 3 rd and short. I’ve been a fan since 1977 it’s been great seeing this organization turn around to what it is today, we have to keep this team productive. I will say one thing in their behalf. The did have to over come a lot of situations that arose. Between the passing of Dawson Knox’s younger brother, the storms, the shootings, then the Cinci game and the hit heard around the world. All of them problems were probably never really dealt with, they have to be ready for the following week. It might have all just had a chain reaction on them and they shut down, they lost their focus.

@terranceramirez4816
@terranceramirez4816 Жыл бұрын
@Kougami which is why I continue to say that the NFL needs to fix the problem with the rookie/prime QB contract cliff. The case could be made that maintaining a hard cap as opposed to implementing a Bird rule as the NBA did when they implemented their rookie wage scale enhances competitive balance as it maintains the even footing between small and large markets, it is manifestly anti-parity as it drastically limits the amount of teams that can actually win a championship while not preventing teams like the Rams from using cap games to build stacked rosters (at least from a top-line POV, their depth still sucked)
@terranceramirez4816
@terranceramirez4816 Жыл бұрын
@Kougami it also makes the NFL weirdly kakistocratic as the prohibitively surest path to a championship is to have a top-5 draft pick QB on a rookie contract and picks that high generally only accrue to the worst organizations. Thus, the most poorly run teams actually have a great competitive advantage (see cf Bengals, Cincinnati) while well run teams are rewarded with an indefinite stay in purgatory that essentially requires luck to leave.

Let's face it. The bills defense stinks against good teams. Their secondary is garbage . Their defensive coordinator has no idea what to do when a team is being overwhelmed as shown by the loss. Last year in Kansas City with 13 seconds left. Couldn't stop anything. And in the beginning of the Cincinnati game they couldn't stop anything either. No one was coordinating that defense that's for sure. If they don't get rid of that bum defensive coordinator, they're never going to win anything. And in the games that really meant something their past rush was useless. Old Vaughn Miller isn't going to win any super bowls anymore. Unfortunately you can see the whole team is going downhill now. Jim Kelly could play in the snow but I can't say the same for Allen or diggs. With the way this league works I can't see buffalo going anywhere but downhill from now on.

Allen is a pea brain QB that only plays hero ball, so he throws 40 yard bombs when they need a yard. and without daboll there to reign in his nonsense, you saw the clear regression this year from allen. the window has closed on this team. allens contract is about to kick in. you couldnt even win when allen and diggs only had like a 29 million cap hit, vs burrow and jamar at 17 million. now next year, burrow and jamar are only 18 million, but allen and diggs jumps up to 60 million. both the bengals and chiefs will easily stay ahead of this iteration of the bills, its over for this team.

Being a Bills fan living in Buffalo it actually annoyed me when so many in the media overhyped the Bills. They have had a lot of flaws going back to the 2020 season when they made the AFCC Game the offense just got hot at the right time the past two years. Ya some players where in a prove it year like Davis, Rousseau, Oliver, and much of the O line and they never truly showed consistency. An many fans have had our questions about this front office cause none of the flaws where ever really addressed. An I told people all year that a game like that was going to happen in the playoffs. Fourth year in a row McDermott was completely out coached. I’d like to see the Bills get a offensive HC. But that ain’t happening this offseason, especially after all the shit the team went through this season. 🤷‍♂️

I think it is starting to become clear, the Bills are becoming the Packers of the AFC. What I mean, is that they look great in the regular season, get everyone's hopes up, then come the playoffs, they find a way to fall short. Rogers with the Packers only went to one Super Bowl, and granted they won it, the Packers looked phenomenal multiple years, yet only one Super Bowl appearance, despite having a great QB at the helm, weapons around him, and a typically solid defense. When I watch the Bills in the playoffs I always think "they're good", never "they're great". Only time they truly looked great in the post season was last year against the Chiefs (in which the offense looked great, defense was horrible). Teams like the Bengals and the Chiefs seem to elevate their play when they reach the playoffs, Bills seem to struggle with this. If Buffalo can't start finding ways to take the next step, they could very well find the Jets, Dolphins, and maybe even the Patriots rising up to take the division.

The Bills will really need to bring their "A" game each and every week next season. The Jets are essentially just a QB away from being a very strong contender in the AFC East. All it would take for the Bills to have to happen is for Allen to go down with a season-ending injury and that would essentially end their season. Hence McDermott and Beane have to decide if they think RB Cook is going to be the RB going forward or to either look or draft for a RB elsewhere. They also need to address the need for another quality WR to complement and help Diggs. With very little to no cap space Beane is going to have to be a magician to bolster this lineup.

Josh Allen needs to learn he is in the NFL and his college "HERO BALL" attitude doesn't work in the pros. An example, you are loosing by two scores in the forth quarter and are desperate for first downs and you continue to throw 30-40 passes to your wide outs. In the meantime you have a slot receiver named Cole Beasley who in his two full seasons with the Bills caught 160 passes, 57% of them for first downs. In this game he had three catches for 33 yds. all for first downs and you don't throw to him when you need first downs. The Bills resigned Beasley at the end of the season for this very reason That's "HERO BALL" and it cost them any chance at winning.

Josh Allen was the third highest paid player in the NFL this season. To his credit, that makes him the only Top-5 paid QB to even make the playoffs this season. The other 4 were Stafford, Wilson, Rodgers and Murray. The QB market is completely out of control and teams that pay their QBs top dollar are suffering for it. It's not a coincidence that the 4 QBs to make the conference championships were 3 guys on their rookie deal and Mahomes on a very team friendly contract without a huge cap number this year. Buffalo was lucky they still have so much young talent. They're also lucky that Allen's cap number is actually a few million lower this coming season with a higher cap, so they may be able to keep most of their talent together for another year or two.

Injuries to key players all over the defense, awful O-line, lack of skill position talent.. It's literally just the Allen & Diggs show. But people like Nick Wright will gladly pin it all on Allen, even though he's the primary reason they were 13-3, held the 1 seed for much of the year, 40+ TD season (again), etc Sure, 14 INTs is high for him, and 6 fumbles sucks, but when you're running for your life immediately after snap & having to rush so much on broken plays, of course you're going to have more turnovers. Front Office has failed for 4 straight years with all the 1st round picks on defense. Their 1st round pick this year got beaten out for the starting spot by a 6th round rookie n the same class! That shouldn't happen if you made the right pick in the 1st! And signing Von Miller was an indictment of their failures! They spent a 1st & 2nd round picks on edge rushers in 2021, but they failed to produce, so here's a $120 million contract due to our bad picks! That money could've been helped on the O-line, but instead they keep using 2nd round picks & trades on a rotating room of RBs... none of which can excel behind that line. The Bills WRs lead the league in drops... so they sign 2 guys off the streets that no team wanted, Beasley & Brown, just out of desperation. People liked to bring up Allen's 5 redzone INTs this year... why do you think that is? His first 4 years, he was the BEST at TD/INT ratio with 0 INTs! No protection, instant pressure, drops everywhere, broken plays... he didn't suddenly forget how to pass. All of that PLUS a 1st time OC in Ken Dorsey calling plays. Allen had Daboll for 4 years, now had to adjust to a new signal caller the 1st time in his career. And for a down year, 42 TDs, 4200 pass yards, 750 rush yards is ok. People compare him to prime Cam Newton, but Allen already has put together better seasons than Cam... he just happens to play in a league with Mahomes. Mahomes is the #1 best QB talent in the league, no question. Allen could put up numbers that'd win MVP any other year, but not when Mahomes is healthy. That said, you don't need to be the BEST to win a SB. You can just be "great" if the rest of your team is good. Bills are too Allen-centric. They need help. Until then, non-Bills fans will blame it all on Allen, even though you can clearly see all the other flaws.

The reason Allen threw to Knox and Singletary over Davis (in the loss to the Bengals) had nothing to do with faith in Davis. It had to do with the EXTREMELY Wet and Windy conditions. It was check down city. And that's Joe Burrows game. The bad weather eliminated the deep ball which favored the Bengals. If that game is dry and not windy it helps Allen more than Burrow. Also the Bills needed Von Miller and Daquan Jones' pass rush. Normal weather conditions and Von Miller in the lineup makes for a completely different game.

The Bills need to heavily focus on becoming a run-dominated team. Allen needs to just make the short passes. Clock management is important. Go for the long passes once in a while, but not all the time. Just because you have a QB with a strong arm doesn't mean you bomb it on every down. Run the ball down the throats of other teams, have Allen run the ball on occasion, and control the clock. What we are built to do now isn't getting us to the promise land.

Allen has pro bowl talent at receiver, at least compared to Daniel Jones.

The Bills were outcoached badly the last 2 years. There seemed to be no gameplan against Cincinatti except let Allen run around and improvise?

There’s a reason Gabe was a 5th rounder. Comparing him to 1st rounders isn’t that fair

No logic in even mentioning the WC game against the Dolphins. They are a well-coached team and a division opponent. The Bengals look bad in the WC round against the ravens too yet thumped the Bills. Teams have always struggled against division opponents in the postseason

I think it is funny that Lamar is no longer in the discussion. Even Hurts has surpassed Lamar as a running passing qb these days.

No, it's not funny. It's hypocritical. LAMAR has been out of the picture, because he was injured & the team faded in the playoffs. Recency bias. Out of sight, out of mind, that's all. He's coming back strong, and he is still the premier running quarterback. He is extremely multi talented and gifted . way more hurts & Fields . I'm glad for hurts, I like hurts. Now because of Lamar and hurts, maybe the traditional media will stop pretending that mobile running quarterbacks can't make it to, and win, the Super bowl. hurts actually almost won, but his DEFENSE didn't play at ALL! no sacks. Lamar is next.

No running game besides the qb, no balance. Kinda of one dimensional, Bengals defense was able to read their offense.

There is nothing wrong with the Buffalo Bills. There just happens to be a lot right with the Cincinnati Bengals.
