I picked CJ Abrams in the "next video" poll. He had the fewest points at that time. I knew it was coming though. Not Salvy and definitely not the Rays. I think most people were picking Aroldis Chapman which made zero sense. It had to be Abrams. Nothing else would've been very interesting. Why did few people guess Abrams for it came out?

The crazy thing is too, in addition to Abrams they also got back: -James Wood, now a consensus Top 20 five tool prospect -Mackenzie Gore who looks to be at least a solid middle rotation LHP with some upside remaining. -Robert Hassel who was a top 100 prospect when they got him, bat hasn't developed as hoped but could be a bench OF with his glove, arm and speed. -Jarlin Susanna who signed for almost $2M a couple years ago and has a plus plus fastball and plus slider, just turned 20 years old. I'd say the Nationals did quite well for not having 2.5 years of Soto during a rebuilding phase.

Nic video. Unless it’s a known name, I always wonder how some pieces of the puzzle end up in a trade like that. As a Mets fan, I have a a number of prospects (pieces to puzzles) to hear and see more about, which is great to be on the winning side of.

As a Padres fan, it sucks because it looks like they lost BOTH Soto trades. I thought for sure that they were gonna extend him long-term after making the initial trade... knowing now that it was unlikely to happen at all makes everything soooooo much worse.
@roysreceptive

For whatever reason, he didn’t seem like a good fit on the Padres. You’d figure a lineup that featured, Machado, Soto, FTJr, Kim & Cronenworth would be formidable but it just didn’t seem to work convincingly. He’s doing much better in the pressure cooker of NY. It’s weird. I wonder how the players/prospects the Padres got back from the Yankees will look in a year or two.

@@iitstre_4550 Chapman has been great but he was solid last season too. The one thing about Chapman this year that's most different is that he's not a closer anymore. I actually picked him up on my fantasy team thinking he would get some saves like he usually does but then I had to drop him because I realized he wasn't a closer anymore. So I think people were picking him because he has the most recognizable name after all this time. He has been great though. That's a fact.

I had the Nationals as a 4th place team going into the season. I believed they were going to take a step forward in the rebuild and Abrams breaking out was necessary as well as Crews/Wood being called up some time this season. Abrams and the Nats are the perfect fit. They’re giving him every single opportunity to succeed and he’s rewarding them. I don’t think he finds the same success in San Diego. Fwiw, I wanted him in the draft as a Braves fan. He’s a special talent

CJ Abrams is restoring my faith in everything from the Washington nationals to the future of black baseball . I’m glad he hasn’t been a part of marquis grissom’s summer workout program so far because as the braves are currently constructed ( Arcia has been great but seems like a stop gap measure at short and jarred kelenic does not seem like the kind of long term answer in left the braves are after ) , my biggest fear about Major League Baseball atm is that when Lawrence butler and Abrams hit free agency , they’re gonna join Mike harris in ATL , which would be sick but as somebody in northern va rooting for for the nats and o’s it would be pretty devastating to lose cj . But I def agree with the premise of this video and I can see a similar sentiment taking hold for Lawrence butler too cause he’s an incredibly talented player as well

He's been killing it. Hurts me as a Padres fan to see him succeed elsewhere. But I'm happy for the kid. He just needed a couple of years under his belt to find his form. Back in 2022, when the Padres called him up, he was REALLY young and honestly wasn't ready. I wish AJ Preller didn't have such impulsive trade deadlines and played the long game. I at least understand trading for Soto, but if that didn't come AFTER he traded away players like Josh Naylor, Andres Muñoz, Ty France, Trea Turner, Emmanuel Clase, then trading for Soto would've seemed like THE trade he was waiting for. Hey, at least Jackson Merrill looks promising.

You SHOULD be talking about Jared Kelenic. He's had some hiccups too, but this is the second straight year he's come out the gate hitting like Tony Gwynn, and this time he's surrounded by successful veterans and absurdly protected in a lineup where he can hit .400+ and be the 9th most intimidating bat in the lineup. Some things I DID NOT know before he came to Atlanta, he's also a bloodhound in left field and has, not a cannon... More like a sniper rifle for a left arm. He can dot a catchers glove at like 97mph from deep left field. I was skeptical when I heard people talking about him early '23. Skeptical when the Braves traded for him (although they really gave up nothing) but by the end of week one of this season if a time traveler came back from the year 2044 and told me Jared Kelenic just got inducted in to the hall of fame I would believe it.
