Love this video 😊 I made a video about this topic also. I stopped listening to secular music awhile ago. As my relationship grew with God, the less time I wanted to spend with the world. The conviction is real. I stopped watching secular tv as well. Television shows mock God, they are antichrist and it completely takes your mind off of God. I began to realize what the scriptures say about thinking on things above. Protecting your heart. Honoring God in everything you do. So yeah, no secular for me🙂

I'm so glad you brought this conversation up. I've had to ditch a couple of "good" TV shows because the Holy Spirit warned that they were killing my spiritual health. As for music, 'spiritual dieting' has made certain 'good secular' irritate my soul. Oh well...I still trust God for His help out there. Thanks again.

Yeah the tv shows are getting ridiculous. You can start watching some episodes and get connected then the episodes/series start getting into things that make us uncomfortable. There are very few things you can watch as a family with children.

So true, I was watching This is Us a couple of years ago. Seemed like a good family show then they started adding other things that got me saying, I don't think so.

I totally love this conversation guys! I agree with you guys especially with the tv shows.. For me its a must to truly get into the word of God so we can all be guided with whatever we're doing.

I enjoyed your video. I like music too. I have different playlists for different occasions. I have a playlist for meditation, working out, and being intimate with my husband. I listen to certain music according to how I want to feel. Words are powerful and they make you feel a certain way. I think it's ok for Christians to listen to different music or tv shows, but just make sure you're careful with what you're intaking.

Exactly! And if you know it's not something you shouldn't be consuming not making excuses to continue watching or listening.

This was SO GOOD! I’m a musician and singer so I have definitely struggled before with what was ok and not ok to listen to…lol. I’m an 80’s baby so I love music from that decade because it just wasn’t as terrible! Lol! But even with that, some of the lyrics…yeah. I’m trying to be really careful about what I allow into my ear gate and spirit because we’re in a time where even the very elect can be easily deceived. We just have to be mindful, awake and not asleep or desensitized, because that’s what the enemy counts on so he can slip in. My love for artistry and music cannot supersede my love for God and my desire to be close to him. Great discussion y’all! ❤️

Dave is a musician too! But yeah so true the love for music can't supersede our love for God. Thank you so much for watching!

I grew up on Hip Hop and R&B music so I love it. However, about 13 years ago God spoke to me and everything I owned I threw away. God provided me with a plethora of “Christian alternative” music that replaces every genre need that I felt like I had to have. That being said, I listen to some secular music, but it’s really based on the message. I listen to some music by Kem, Will Smith, Maxwell, 2 PAC, but again the message has to be a pure message and not one that goes against my convictions.

I did this too! It was one day I realized that I had the lyrics to many foul songs stuck in my head all day. I knew that wasn't good for my soul. I didn't trust myself to fast from it so I gave away nearly my entire music collection. CHH got me through.

I remember growing up in the 70's listening to a song that so many people were dancing to and they didn't realize what the words meant.....including myself. Many years later, actually not that long ago I realized what the words were trying to tell us. In the song it said.....(The Idle Mind Is The Playground Of The Devil....Do You Want To Get Funky With Me). I posted on Facebook about what those words meant and so many people on my Facebook Page were like WOW! I've never paid attention to the words. They seemed to be appreciative that I had brought that to light for them. We have to be so careful of what we and our children are listening to.

I'm definitely with you guys in that there's been a lot of change in what I will and will not listen to nowadays. Like Dave said sometimes you try to separate yourself from the content you consume but it really does have an impact on you whether you realize it or not.

This is an interesting convo! I still listen to some Musiq soulchild, India write and some old school stuff. I tried to listen to WAP once and I was like, mercy!!! This is too much. I think it really depends on each individual’s spiritual journey. Great content guys!!! That elusive 1000 is coming pretty soon too

That true. Since Dave is a musician that's what catches him the most but I am always trying to listen to the lyrics just because I like to know what the song is about.

There is so much garbage in every single platform. I will go looking for an adventure movie or history documentary. but before you get there there’s so much garbage to dig through and then you get distracted and you’re watching something you shouldn’t. Super discouraging, makes you not even wanna watch TV at all.

This is definitely a matter of conscience. You guys have the right idea to really monitor your thoughts & feelings and prioritize honoring God. I know what you mean by separating yourself tho. I've gotten into songs & suddenly notice the lyrics and have to turn it off.

Right! I think we always knew deep down that it was wrong, but we're choosing ourselves and what we liked over obedience to the Holy Spirit smh

Great conversation you two, I remember listening to this song talking about the beauty of Africa, with great lyrics and melody. But few days later when I saw some nudity in the music video, I was so torn if I should be listening to it or not. I think that’s one of the problems with “good” circular music.

They’re saying that a lot of the mainstream pastor are leading Christians astray by teaching the prosperity gospel. There’s been times when I’m watching a sermon and feel convicted and that’s sad. Especially when the pastor comes on stage deck out in a clean suit and chain and is talking about how they’re going use millions of dollars to do this that and the third. I’ve also heard that a lot of mainstream Christian music isn’t edifying God. I’m like at this point, who do we trust with our worship? I have to pray for discernment, it’s getting weird out here. I love Nicki, but I know she’s not good for my walk. The thumbnail called me out LOL 😭😂

Do you want to be any of the particular entertainers that you like when the trumpet sounds for the rapture, and Jesus spits you out of his mouth because you are lukewarm? Will you have confidence to stand before the Lord should the trumpet sound while you are watching your favorite show or listening to your favorite songs of fornication, when you are supposed to be fulfilling your role as one of the royal priesthood? I think that the answer is obviously "No". Obviously your eye is not single when you haven't given up secular entertainment. When your eye is single, you no longer live unto yourself. We the priesthood can no longer live unto ourselves. We must live unto Jesus. When you live unto the Lord, He or any angel can materialize and walk in and out of your life without you having to repent about anything. What a pleasant experience of blamelessness this is to me. If Jesus' wrath would be raised instead of his personal enjoyment if he were physically with you while you played your secular music, then secular music is a no, no. The truth is, he is with you physically. Our body parts are his, that were bought with a price. We are betrothed unto God, waiting for the actual marriage to occur.
