Even if all characters had the same light privileges, you may still feel the same slap fight of lights as long as a character has access to an invincible reversal quick enough to beat safe jab oki 2 main reasons: 1. People will always mash 2. As long as opponent can threaten inv reversal, they will use that fear against you in an attempt to steal turns with low commitment moves like lights That’s just the natural rps of a close range knockdown situation in most games

Broski recently did a video, "What makes a character strong in SF6?" highlighting the five things which make characters dominate. Safe lights into solid combo damage and positioning really should have been part of that list. Most people would certainly argue that's been fighting game design forever, but I'd argue that DI essentially nerfs heavies in that buttons RPS, and in a game where a light will allow a player to send the opponent to the wall where they're guessing for life in an already incredibly volatile game... it's a bit much. Light strings are much too potent for how safe they are.

Jago here, excellent Video. Yeah the first issue is not every character can do it and this is the biggest problem in SF6. Two characters that have high mobility should not have triple light strings period, cammy / akuma etc. Because lights are chains, you can delay the 2nd and 3rd lights which now act as cancels causing less push back. If a universal tool is to be in the game everyone should have it.
@Lordsetsunia3 ай бұрын
Another issue, is the range lights hit at amongst the top tier. Lights should not interact with cr. Lk, mk or hk normalz that duck. The counter play to lights were those buttons but this has changed and there is no counter play to lights but to stay out of range yet using longer buttons out of range meanz you can still be counter hitted by the light your trying to avoid.
@IAmhermit3 ай бұрын
Its weird that it works but at the same time I think it's valid. The reward for landing a cr.mk can be game changing and it already has little counter play. So I think it kinda combats it well. I don't think every character should have what Cammy has tho, I think that would be too obnoxious

helped illustrate one of the aspects i was really feeling the rough edge of this game. and i think this issue present in SF6 is only exaggerated with mechanics like drive rush. because even in those instances where you get hit by cr m, in prior games at longer distances that would usually lead to short 2-3 hit combos from what i understand. and it can lead to attempts to pressure stronger options. but in 6, drive rush can turn any footsie tool into a full combo, corner carry, and meaty setup reward.

Marisa's 2LP is -3 and there is a big gap in her chaining another 2LP so that if you mash in between you can trade favorably into a counterhit combo. So if you catch Marisa trying to wake-up or interrupt with a 2LP (her fastest normal) and you block, she already lost lmao. Mash a fast low and she can't even Gladius through it because it doesn't have low armor.

Like, shared, and subscribed. I've been playing fighting games for a really long time and I rarely learn new frame fundamentals from videos. Brilliant brililant work. This is an implication largely of the shift to make most moves minus that I didn't see coming. I thought jab pressure would still be fine given the unique ability to chain, but I really didn't consider the importance of that chainable jabs ability to space you out. It really quantifies another aspect of what makes ken and akuma 2MK drive rush so incredibly strong.

Unless I'm misunderstanding there seems to be some misrepresentation here about the gap in these kinds of sequences. Akuma's st lk is 5f startup and if he does it after a light (which is -1) it's effectively a 6f gap, that is it hits at frame 6 not frame 5, because he's doing it while -1. So it trades with things like 6f cr mp if used after a light, and straight up loses to opponents 5f options. St lk does not chain cancel from other lights. I believe the same is true for Ed. That's why ed's 2lk is such an incredible poke out tool because it reaches so far at 5 fr and has a cancelable option.
@IAmhermit2 ай бұрын
I said a five frame gap because it's the only thing that cleanly beats it. 6fr moves trade and I just wanted to showcase what people are going to press of they know the situation. St.lk's aren't chain-able from other lights and having -1 lights grant more freedom. It was sloppy on my end but my point is that they should make it chain-able for everyone. Just so they don't have to change the frame data of every character to have a -1 lp. My bad

They should let some characters like Kim chain into their 5LK. The extra range would push them far enough out to avoid low pokes (probably). I also think the 2MKs that are 7f startup probably shouldn't have as much range as they do, ones like Jamie and Rashid are a bit more fair but Ken/Chun/Akuma are only a few pixels shorter than the longest 2MKs
