We also use code words with our kids but it's mainly to get them out of situations with friends. With the threat of AI duplicating our voices, we are needing to have another conversation about code words. Scary stuff.

So, I make sure my Midland/NOAA is nearby and ready. Also, I am now learning a lot about my Baofeng two-way radio. But as you said, does the other end of my contact have the same; nope they don't. Hey Sarge, thanks for sharing. The phone outage was not a good thing at all. I now make sure my Midland/NOAA is ready and nearby. I am now really learning my Baofeng two-way radio. But as you mentioned, does the other end have the equipment to be contacted; nope, not on my end so that poses another challenge. I also keep two phones at all times; a Verizon and a track phone for emergencies in case my main phone is lost or malfunctioned. Thanx for sharing.

Backup is vital we take for granted the breaking down of a network. I do have a landline phone a very small group of people know this number. I do think looking outside of the conventional methods is a great idea code words work well if everyone knows the understanding of what is meant by them

I don't have a backup comm plan....maybe I'll get a land line. As far as AI getting ahold of our voice and exploiting it for money, this actually happened with my grandson's voice. Someone called his other grandparents and played what sounded like his voice saying how he'd been hurt and needed them to send money. They swore up and down it was him. But when my son-in-law called him, he was in class and doing fine and knew nothing about the phone scam.
