This is one great horseman. Of all the draft horse videos I’ve watched on KZbin this guy is number one. After you watch a few of his videos, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Ha ha, silly funny, the horses are so heavy, weigh as much as our moose in Alaska and Ken takes the Prize! Wow, almost 2k, almost a Ton..Wow! No wonder they can pull so much, and....thats muscle, not couch fat. So impressive. .. Looking forward to watching the pulls.. Thanks, and thanks for the laugh, and the beautiful mains picture from yrs past, now they got their military haircuts, ah ha. I am working my way through the videos, maybe I am a half way through, I should be caught up by the Easter Bunny. Lovin it.. I hate to even think of getting a foot under those steel horse shoes, that would be a bad day. Very cool video.. Thanks..

I trim my draft horse's mane but not her forelock because she uses it to keep the flies out of her eyes. I'm just wondering how you do that in the summer. Beautiful, beautiful horses you have.
@WorkingHorsesWithJim4 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth the Queen flies don’t seem to bother their eyes to much. We have mostly deer flies and horse flies.

Just watched this! HA HA, my Dad cut the neighbor boys hair with the cow clippers- My Mom use to cut his hair for .50 cents, and his Mother always complained about it, so he came down for a hair cut and my Mom wouldn't do it, so Dad says to me- go to the barn and get the cow clippers, so I did- Dad ask him what kind did he want, and he said a buzz! Off it came, he was as happy as can be and gave my Dad the .50 cents, and my Dad gave it back to him and sent him home- His mother never sent him down again!! Brenda, you crack me up!

Personal preference and the collar seems to fit better with less hair under it.

If you hadn't clipped the manes and brushed the dirt out, the horses would have been heavier.(: Mine are much heavier, but then they do not even do a tenth of the work yours do, and they are bigger. It's great to see that everybody is in fantastic shape, especially Brenda (did I get the name right?)

Jim, the horse pulls I've seen at the country fairs, I don't know that much about it, but it seems like the horses are a little anxious to go and as soon as they hear that clink noise of them being hitched to the sledge, they really dig in and take off, a couple of times the guy misses getting them hitched to the sledge and they have to line them back up at the sledge again, I'm not sure if that's a little like animal abuse because of what they are expected to pull, but I could be wrong. Like I said, i do love horses.

Why do you clip the mane? I can understand the feathers as they would pick up mud . What kind of horses are they? In Scotland our heavy draught horses are Clydesdales and we don't take mane off we pluck the tail to keep it short and tidy the feathers but we don't clip them either.
@WorkingHorsesWithJim4 жыл бұрын
John McCrank I think the horses are easier to take care of with their manes cut. With their collars on I think it’s easier on their necks.
