CHECK OUT PETER STRIPOL'S NEW VIDEO ON 3D PRINTED BOATS - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXmwoZmnqLGsqsU
@mandernachluca37746 жыл бұрын
Hey, quick question, do you think that the solid aluminium coupler was the cause for the propellor failure, since couplers normally are flexible to prevent torsional vibrations of the motor from destroying the shaft and the prop?
@willierants58806 жыл бұрын
The boats in Peter's video were pretty good and unique in their approach, but I think without a doubt that Simon's boat is better. The boats in Peter's videos are good because they are designed to be very simple to print and build and be as inexpensive as possible. So cheers to both!

Very cool. Only suggestions I would have would be: 1) Battery is not balanced on center, so maybe it at least is on the proper side to counteract the rotational momentum? 2) Next design should try to either expose the heatsinks to moving air (on motor and ESC) or pump water across them. Love that no bilge is required.

Really awesome build, Simon! There is room for improvement, there are two minor drawbacks in this build. Firstly, the boat is not balanced across the main axis (it is little bit tilted to the left due to the battery weight). I'm not sure how heavy is the speed controller, but if you move it to the other side, it can counterbalance the battery, to some extend and if needed, you can put additional weight. This way you will improve the overall stability, especially at higher speeds. The other problem is that there is fairly big clearance between the steering ring and the propulsion nozzle. You can clearly see the negative effect of this when the boat is running faster - there is water springing like a fountain on every direction from the gap between the two. If you make them fit together tightly, for example like a ball faucet assembly, it will greatly improve the performance. But again - an awesome build, can't wait to make one myself!

impressive, and it goes really well on the water but in order to be perfect IMO it must be designed to accept standard equipment which you can find easily, as you mentioned the propeller. it needs a redesigned to accept a standard size propeller.

What about building a hydrofoil next? I too think you should try PETG for the propeller.
@95tekki6 жыл бұрын
What about plastic molding yourself the propeller? you can 3d print it, make a mold out of silicone and then cast it with resin (imho the easiest way, since using other types of polymers usually needs heat and high pressures). Would not only cost not much, but you can mold multiples if you take good care of the silicone. Check Frank ippolito from tested if you would like to get more in depth info about it!

@EspenShampoo256 жыл бұрын
i am a big fan of yours so dont take this the wrong way, it is not only you who this is directed against. I just noticed how many of the youtubers i watch keep on printing stuff in PLA even though we all know by now that is is not a strong material and it will degrade in sunlight. You are so clever, you can make drones, rc boats, cars etc. This is something i can only dream about being able to do! But when it comes to materials for 3d printing it seems all logic is set aside. It just baffles me. Anyways, other than that, i love the video as always. Everything you make has such a high quality. Fuunny you mention Ace Ventura in the comment section, because you remind me of him XD Ha en fin dag videre :D
@RcLifeOn6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my channel man! I think the main five reasons many KZbinrs, including myself, are using PLA is because its cheap, accessible, easy to print, doesn't smell and has moderately good properties. Obivously we have nylon and PC filament that would withstand higher temperatures and be overall a "better" option for a lot of our projects. Look at Ivan Miranda, printing huge amounts, the cost with PLA versus cost of nylon is unbeatable. For me personally I use it because its cheap and doesn't smell when printing.
@EspenShampoo256 жыл бұрын
I totally see your logic when it comes to that. And since you mainly do prototype ish experiments it doesnt really have to last that long either. I was wondering though, have you thought about using PET-G instead? the price of the one i buy is very similiar to PLA and it doesnt break as easy, at least not shatter like PLA. And it of course has a UV resistance to it. BTW i am loving that you take your time to answer your fans, as stated earlier i am a big fan of yours. I saw a video from Makers muse yesterday where he explains how you dont follow the same "plan" as most youtubers of pumping out videos all the time to stay relevant. And i hadnt even noticed it but you dont make that many videos a month like many of your piers. But i really think thats a good think because i have seen all your videos at least from the last year because i know when you first make a video its gonna be good. Keep doing what your doing. Your my fav 3d printer channel on here and the one i always referance when i show of 3d rprinting sites to friends :)
