I don't think you have enough space for all the buttons that Russell could actually use! My daughter finally ordered my buttons so I hope to have them by Wednesday. The first word I'm going to try to teach Sunny is food. I have to keep a lid on his bowl because he's on Rx food and his sister loves it. I can't afford to feed it to both of them so Sunny has to let me know when he wants to eat. I let them eat whenever they want so I hope he will pick up on the button pretty fast. Any suggestions for getting started?

That "dry heaving" motion Teen is doing kinda looks like asthma coughing in cats to me, ours did that for a while before getting diagnosed with asthma and needing daily inhalers, her coughing is much more pronounced now but it started just like that motion, low head and stretched out neck while coughing. Amazing that Russell noticed and pointed it out!

I have watched this video a couple times. I think Russell was trying to communicate his concern for Teen. I think he saw that Teen was in distress with the dry heaving and was trying to get help for Teen. Russell has shown how attentive and concerned he is about all the beings around him. He was worried about Dylan when in covid isolation. He watches all of the important necessities in the cat's lives and asks for help with them (food, water, litter). He watches the laundry and can get obsessive in making sure it is cared for. He asks for toys for the other cats (puffy), even when he might prefer a different toy. I don't think he was being possessive or protective about getting the seat for himself or not wanting it urped on. I think he was genuinely concerned with the distress that Teen was having with dry heaving. At the very end, he sits up and noses at the seat. It looks like it could have been a wanting to jump on the seat. But I think he might actually have been trying a last time to get your attention onto Teen. Russell is a very aware cat, and I think he is using the buttons to get his need met about his concern for Teen. It was early in working with the buttons, so I think his efforts weren't understood for the depth of meaning that he was trying to express.

@@JazzyB9481 It can vary depending on the cat. I know if one of our cats starts to get sick, some do a loud bellowing sound because they are scared and often don't understandwhat's happening to them. It's a terrible sound because it flashes me back to when one of my cats suffered a blood clot and was terrified. She was bellowing and crying while dragging her back legs. She tore us up getting her in the carrier because of how scared she was. There wasn't anything they could do, so they gave us a pawprint mold with her name and we brought her home to be buried with our other pets. Some cats dry heave and make no sound, but they other cats always go to check on the one heaving, noise or silent to make sure everything is alright. I always check if I hear the bellows because it puts fear in me and I get anxious hoping its not another thrown clot in another cat. In my life, I've watched 3 cats throw clots (usually from heart disease) and 2 had to be put down, and the 3rd it killed her instantly so she never suffered. Unlike with dogs, who have measures to prevent heart disease, its a silent killer in cats. I also think Russ was trying to get attention to Teen out of worry and concern. Smart cat!!

I've been a vet tech for many years and it looks like Teen may be quietly coughing in this vid. Does she ever make a honking sound? Feline asthma is very common and inexpensive to treat. The most expensive part is the diagnosis because of the X-rays.

All these people that I see make comments that say oh my goodness oh that's just coincidence no I can guarantee you my cat Mochi is exactly like this I have been training him on the buttons and surprisingly oh my God he gets them he usually does different little I called them yodels because it's a different meow pattern but this is much easier when he can tell me with buttons what he wants because he is very specific he goes outside when it's raining he does not like a litter box he would rather poop in the woods so if it's raining out and he comes inside and has gotten wet from the rain I have to dry him off with the blow-dryer so we have a blow-dryer button he also likes ice rubs too I don't know what that is he also loves his puffys and his spring

After watching the video several times, and observing Russell's behavior, and the sound of his meows...I 100% believe that his frustration, and anxious behavior, was bc he knew something wasn't right with Teeny, and he needed you (their Mom). The fact that he first figured out a way to get your attention, and then, to get you to understand that he needed you to come with him, and check on Teeny...is absolutely amazing!!!! Your actin like you cat is just able to understand and learn human vocal mannerisms and understand to such depth that it understands English and is know somehow understanding and able to know words you haven't even tried to teach him. Botch human babies can't do that Bruce language is taught. Your cat is just continually repeating the same habits that gets your attention. He understand by pressing the buttons and even more so by pressing certain ones he gets certain reactions. Your cat is not magical. I love cats, I have a Grey 2 year old stray that's an indoor outdoor cat that will follow me around like a dog and sit on command, I feed stays evrynight. Cats CANNOT understand human language.
