they showed up at my mothers recently. I cancelled it for her and even did the whole exemption form. I put the home owner name down as "the occupier" since I'm a bit of a troll. She has a sign on her door and porch window saying "no cold callers, we do not buy at the door." etc. She has learning difficulties. Had her carer out and was doing stuff in the house when two goons rocked up built like units. Carer opened the side hatch and told them no, they cant come in. They got very threatening. So she pulled out the phone and started recording them. They soon left, but not before ragging the recycling bin over the path and spilling the content up the drive. Police are currently looking into the recording as the bin also damaged next doors fence.

I love Happy ending 😂. I've 4 front Garden Security cameras ready for them !!, if they finally turn up !!. One of the biggest issues is that if you talk to multiple people at TV Licensing, you will get different answers each time. At best I've heard, regarding live-streams, is "only live-streams that contain TV programs", the worst was "all live-streams". And I heard those within hours of each other. How on Earth are people meant to understand if they need a TV license if the staff have no idea.

We cancelled our licence over 6 years ago, I went to a lot of trouble to ensure there was no "accidental" way the BBC could leak its way onto my devices. Its no easy task, even my Roku would offer live channels. Having gone to such lengths, I have been waiting for a door knock, just to give me the pleasure of sending them packing, but as of yet they have left me alone, not so much as a reminder letter has arrived yet.

If they KNOW that you've watched BBC programmes on BBC or iPlayer, why can't they just bill you for that? I only watch "Have I got News For You" which has a limited amount of episodes....to pay £159 for maybe 10 episodes is ridiculous! Apart from that BBC repeats the repeats of 30 years ago and then repeats them again. And Strictly Come Prancing, Cookery shows, etc are bloody nauseating! And in all honesty, I don't want to pay towards the wages of Gary (I love me) Lineker, Clare (here I am again) Balding,...

It also amazes me that not a single one out of all those other TV services has ever challenged the law regarding that. All I can think of is their broadcast licence includes some legal small print that makes them have to sign away their right to make any legal challenges against the Communications Act.

I wrote to them 10 years ago addressed from ‘the current occupier’ confirming I ‘Do not need a tv licence’. I asked to be removed from their ‘non payers list’. I also removed All implied rights of access to my property for them and any of their employees or sub contractors. They wrote back to confirm but said they can use other means to detect! I’ve never had so much as a letter. Send them a letter like this and you shouldn’t get harrassed ?

I've had 24 letters since last May. I don't open them. I also have a stack of opened ones. Haven't watched the idiot box for getting on for 6 years now. I'm looking forward to my threatened visit. I received approx letter no.200 the other day, never had a visit, although I do have multiple TVs every single one is connected to a computer (removed all live feeds coming into my house) on which we watch KZbin or Netflix. They bully the older generation who were brought up with TV and don't use the internet. Imagine if Google said, right we are starting a new law if you have access to the internet you must now pay a tax for having the ability to use Google (even if you didn't use Google) - this is the equivalent of what the BBC are doing - can't wait until the day it collapses.

Recently informed the beeb that I don’t need a license after moving house (haven’t needed or paid in years). Was appalled how misleading the form is to tell them you don’t need one. There is one confirmation page that has the non misleading information on and several that says “if you watch tv you need a license”.

Jon, has anybody who genuinely does not need a licence ( or perhaps a group of people/friends) ever tested a harassment case in a court of law. I’m a new licence-free member of the clan. I’ve had a confirmation of cancellation ( another waste of paper from the BBC who are always banging on about climate change) but nothing else. It’s only been a few weeks so there’s plenty of time but if I am harassed as much as some people say they are I would be pretty pissed off. As you’ve said loads of times, you don’t need a licence if you don’t watch live,streamed, BBC iPlayer blah,blah blah. This cannot be right that they are allowed to harass people verbally or by post who have genuinely made the effort to rid themselves of these scumbags. One of their notorious scumbags had Alex Belfield put away for five years for merely sending emails. These bastards are doing a lot worse than that. Interested to know yours or anybody else’s thoughts on my suggestion.

They have a gall to impose all this BS, when we consider that if we view through Netflix, Stan, KZbin or any other media outlet, we are not using the BBC signal. If these alternative channels screen recorded versions of BBC programs, then they may have to pay royalties. Whether we pay subscriptions to any of these other outlets is not in the BBC's jurisdiction. Therefore, people should have a right to NOT watch BBC live and not be persecuted for their decision. I live in Australia, and we cancelled TV licencing for the ABC a long time ago because it was so electorally unpopular and damaging for governments of all persuasions. I urge the British public to keep resisting (lawfully and peacefully) until the powers that be see that this ridiculous situation must be stopped. Good luck with that. ~ Adrian (Australia)

Stopped watching TV 3 years ago cos my broke to I never got another , I contacted TV licencing, and I filled out a folder for a refund which I never received. I called them 3 weeks ago after receiving theatning letters I was told I would not receive anymore letters and a week later I received a letter. I have started to keep letters and time stamp the calls in case they ever try to take me to court.

"Technically" it's untrue. Even if you don't have a TV licence it's perfectly legal to use BBC iPlayer to listen to BBC Radio, now called BBC Sounds and to listen to podcasts. I know this seems like nit-picking, however, in the interests of accuracy, it's important to be factually correct. Great channel BTW Jon, keep up the good work.

I turned my tv off more than 2 years ago, I still pay licence fee because I cannot be arsed with dealing with the aggro. However, I am now thinking differently. Thanks for your info, v much appreciated. As they say in black country, Ta muchly.

We should do the same as America, just pay one fee to whichever cable company and no licence. Here in the UK, its ridiculous that we pay twice to watch tv, a licence to be able to watch live tv and then we pay again to Virgin or Sky to be able to recieve channels. I know that you don't have to get Sky or Virgin, but if you want to watch live sport that's not on BBC, ITV, Ch 4 or Ch 5 then you have to pay extra. The tv licence needs to go, its outdated and unnecessary.
