@@ackerbat nobody needs these political photo ops to raise money. The president can stroke his pen and raise it. Ukraine proved this. It’s all fiat anyway. The only way they do it in real terms is to sell bonds . Or straight donations like Trump is doing. He’s up over $10 mil I think directly to them.
@Yaya-Siùsaidh3 ай бұрын
No, I don’t agree. Half the people asked were bitching because Biden “wasn’t there”, and the rest of you were bitching because he was. You can’t have it both ways. It has historically been a US President’s job to survey disaster areas when issuing FEMA response has it not? There has been so much misinformation coming from the disaster areas. Some report FEMA isn’t there, others report FEMA is there; some report threats of being arrested for helping, others deny that; some report DJT was there donating, others say he wasn’t. It’s incredibly frustrating to those also wanting to help because not only is the misinformation coming out of WNC rampant, but also people from the area are incredibly hostile to people online asking what they can do to help.

Yeah zero complaints that Trump was there right after the storm! The Biden administration waited for an ok as the person speaking said "At this point it's just people stranded. " Well , that wasn't the case when trump came in. I'm with ya.I don't think that any of them dem or rep should have been there. The reality is that if the president hadn't shown up there , it might have made people feel like they didn't care and those people should feel confident that we are definitely looking out for them. Millions of dollars was allocated even before the hurricane hit. Don't listen to Fox News, take an honest.Look at how trump responded to disasters. He's not someone I would want to have. I feel so sorry for the town of lake lure. The actions of the assistant fire chief are reprehensible. He threatened a helicopter pilot with arrest if he continued rescue operations. Meanwhile he was accomplishing nothing in terms of rescuing people out of his reach. The man the helicopter pilot was forced, under threat of arrest, to abandon, eventually scaled down the mountain without the assistant fire chiefs help, and low in behold at the bottom of the mountain across the raging River was the team that threatened to arrest the pilot who could have returned him to safety in three minutes. Instead of a safe helicopter ride the experts under the command of the assistant fire chief threw a rope across the river and pulled him to the other side. Imagine... The lake lure town manager defended his actions. She should be removed from office and the assistant fire chief immediately fired. Poor leadership.

BTW, he was only there for two days and gave an interview where the guy in charge of Operation Air Drop would call him every day and tell him that they had enough helos and didn't need him back up there that day. I think yesterday the guy called Cletus and told him that they are beginning to wind down the helo operations as all the critical relief work had pretty much been taken care of and that other groups were going to start bringing in supplies with off road vehicles, and there were enough large LZs for the larger National Guard helos to land. So, it sounds like the civilian helo operations are about done.

@fignuts143 ай бұрын
Not entirely unimaginable. This happens in the Pacific NW or any mountainous region (Typhoon season and the Himalayas esp). Get a big ridge of high pressure stalled out and the coastal inflow pulls up moisture/pressure to balance what is on the other side of the wall.
@TwoBs3 ай бұрын
@@fignuts14 Sure, but the wording of your comment makes it seem as if it’s no big deal because the Pacific Northwest gets it all the time. This isn’t the Pacific NW - this is right in the heart of southeastern America. These generational floods that hit these areas are _not_ common. These people haven’t endured this type of flooding in decades upon decades - many never. These folks may see flooding every now and then with creeks and rivers rising, but it is not to this extent, so it absolutely *is* unimaginable for them to see their neighbors’ bodies stuck in mud days later with no help from anyone. It is unimaginable for them to have their children being exposed to death all around them in their town, seeing things no child should have to see, again, up to a week later with zero help from the government to help find bodies and give them proper burials. It absolutely _is_ unimaginable for them to see their generational home that has stood for almost a century be ripped from its foundation and carried away. It’s unimaginable for them to see a flood twist the frames of vehicles to levels that are unthinkable - levels that would have people thinking an F5 hit the area and did it, but instead it just be the fast rush of flood waters flowing. It’s unimaginable for these citizens affected by the worst flooding disaster caused by a hurricane since Katrina *20 years* ago to be stuck up in the Appalachian hills for a week with no water, no power, and no food with no way out due to the amount of trees that has fallen on their roads - people that can only be rescued by helicopter, but it’s not the government doing it. It’s private citizens and small grassroots organizations trying to find these people … It is undoubtedly, 100% unimaginable for these people to see their fellow neighbors in their communities turn on them out of desperation for food and water, local police telling people to carry and protect themselves due to looting now becoming prevalent. This isn’t the Himalayas, mind you. This is the US. Seeing as how this is the biggest disaster we’ve had in 20 years, possibly even 70 … that right there should be enough for you to understand that, *yes it is unimaginable for these people* … don’t downplay that or what they’re experiencing solely because it happens elsewhere in the world. The absolute horrors these people have gone through aren’t even being covered in the news let alone this very channel with the video we’re commenting on. It is much worse, and what makes it unimaginable is how this is a first world country that has the means to send billions to other countries … but we’ve suddenly “done enough” for our own people with no plans to do more outside of the standard “let FEMA deal with it”. It’s appalling.

After surviving the storm, you need to have a temporary shelter, whether it’s a lean-to, tent, stick and debris/mud hut, camper, enclosed trailer, anything to give you protection from rain/cold weather and wind. Get some water-at least 5 gallons to start-per day. Then fire 🔥 build up a fire wood pile and keep a fire going for heat, drying clothes, boiling water and cooking food, even washing laundry. If you’re in a home that has damage, you can assess the damage and determine whether you can handle it with just yourself, family and neighbors/friends or if you need more help like heavy equipment to deal with heavier damage. Try to get as much help as you can and need, be realistic about your abilities! Then work on the house or demo it safely/carefully, so as not to get injured. Theres no medical help available so take into consideration with every step you take. If your house can be saved then you might be better off than the folks that can’t save their homes. Then keep working and rebuilding from the basics.

Well... there's quite a few legislators voted into gov (at fed/state/local levels btw), on a regular basis, who fervently and proudly believe that gov can do no good... (weird how such a belief would then obviously implicate them then...). So, a tip - maybe start voting for people who believe that good gov is at least nominally possible and strive to improve it and their role in it. (obviously never perfect). Do some research on western democratic countries where the gov seems to be able to do a better job in running basic services and in tough situations like this. You'll find that generally the population has a higher esteem and/or belief in the possibility of good gov (if they vote in people of good character / expertise etc) And voila, the gov indeed does it's job better... Contrast that with the prevailing attitudes here... and many of the cynical, nihilistic attitudes of many office holders and their constituents. If your starting belief is 'gov can never do good' and you vote in people who share the same belief... yeah, you'll get a pretty shoddy / crappy gov...

Neighbors helping neighbors. This is the American way. In the midst of such devastation and sadness, seeing this gives me hope. You guys are not alone! So much help coming from every corner of the country. And thank you for recognizing that NC and TN were taken completely by surprise. This is an area that does not get hurricanes. Federal was pre-mobilized for Florida and Georgia, but State was not even prepared in the mountain regions. And then the extent of the damage has been just overwhelming to even evaluate. And plans can't be implemented until evaluation of the situation. On other channels, people are cursing Washington for not sending National Guard in with bulldozers to clear the roads, and I know people are panicked, they have loved ones they haven't heard from and can't get to, but you couldn't have bulldozers in when they are still searching for survivors. I know that in NC the President said the Fed Disaster Relief will cover 100% of cleanup cost.

is that why the congresspeople from NC and TN voted against funding FEMA mere weeks ago? because they didnt think it would effect them, so why bother? and now that it has, they are begging for the very funding they voted down? must be nice to be able to get all that funding when you voted for it to not even exist. and then let me guess, theyll take credit for it?

I'll bet they lied to you about paying for everything. They are threatening arrest to people elsewhere trying to help, saying FEMA will be there soon, but it's been days and they are ignoring the towns. One guy videoed that a lady was trapped in her house and he was ready to get her out because he and his wife have done rescues for years, and a robot was there and they said NO, you'll be arrested. They aren't sending anyone to get her out. It's hard to hear. In this video, Kamala flew over and didn't stop. Trump and Musk went to towns with food and water and gave money of their own to the people. They stayed talking to the people for hours too. Kamala just stays 15 minutes for a photo op and leaves. She's not a good VP, let alone good Presidential material. They lie about FEMA helping and everything being great! So many capable people are out there willing to help WHO AREN'T GOING TO LOOT (there isn't anything you can save anyway, so who would do that?), but are not allowed to. It's an excuse to get them out of an area, and FEMA is letting people die needlessly, after they survived horrific Helene. It's maddening! Biden and his administration are doing a horrible job, but MSM news makes them out to be heroes. How will people in these destroyed towns even be able to vote Nov. 5th?

Where there were landslides, there is exposed earth and that is not stable for the next minor rainfall. The destruction of Hellene is not over and I hope that people understand this. I feel so helpless and heartbroken after seeing the reality of what these truly wonderful people are going through. I will be praying for you all from California, with love. 😢💔✝️

@@beaulieuc8910 Not to be political, but I will NEVER donate to them again. They’re as corrupt as our government. I do, however, donate to other reputable organizations.

Thank you for all of your efforts. I am in Asheville. This unfathomable event has taken every resource capable. We are so grateful. Everyone I meet is talking about the incredible kindness of others and each other. Every single resource possible has been present from Federal, state, local to grassroots organization efforts. I have also been running supplies once I felt we wouldn't be getting in the way of life saving and other critical operations. People have been using GIS, if they can access a satellite, to find where homes should be, to search for people. This has helped to find people who were trapped and would have otherwise died. Many have perished, but many more have been rescued. And still more will be with continued compassionate efforts like these. Thank you.

Thank you for all that you are doing. We have donated to a local church that is taking supplies up there. Keep reminding people to continue helping because this is going to be needed for many many months. Because when the press stops talking about it everyone tends to forget. Stay safe and may God Continue to Bless you and your Family.

Yes, donate to churches bc apparently FEMA is confiscating supplies and monetary donations from ppl who r showing up there to help, but they can’t confiscate anything from the churches! Ppl r making videos talking about this! They’re telling ppl to donate to the churches bc it will get to the ppl who need it!

FEMA finally showed up and started confiscating donated supplies and funds from volunteer organizations. Truckers tires are being slashed at truck stops. A town meeting was called in Chimney Rock and they were told to vacate immediately before they bulldozed the remaining structures and bodies. Whatever number of deaths and missing you hear you can rest assured it's way lower than the actual number. I live about 100 yards away and 20 feet above the Tuckaseegee river in Cullowhee NC, water got within 4 feet of my porch. I had 2 friends that drown, 5 more were seen being swept away and many more missing. And the bad part missed us ...
