I've always felt that Stan was the adult of the Losers club. In the book, he's described as appearing like a tiny adult, always neatly dressed in a shirt and slacks. As well, out of all of the Losers, he's the only one who we never see interact with parents. We only ever hear about his parents second hand, but we never actually meet them, and I think this was King's way of further setting Stan apart from the rest of the Losers. I think this is ultimately why he's unable to fulfil his part of the oath. Because unlike the rest of them, he had already started leaving his childhood behind.
@ruthcaperchione41034 жыл бұрын
In the 2017 movie they have the moment where the other Losers all drop their bikes in the street, while Stan's the only one using the kickstand. Really shows a more careful and mature side to him.

It’s implied in the book that Stan might actually have the most powerful psychic awareness, and that’s why he’s the only Loser who kept some faint memory of the others even after leaving town. It’s also why after receiving the phone call his memories come back all at once, instead of slowly like the others experience. This flood of traumatic memories is too much for him to handle alone. We also get a few other indications, like Stan’s very adult nature, and how he was able to pick and choose every step in his career with unerring accuracy, even somewhat scaring his wife. He also spoke about the turtle to Patty, even if he couldn’t really recall what it meant, and that he was the first one to understand that IT was female and the reason they /had/ to return to stop it. He also was one of the three Losers who suspected IT wasn’t dead in 1957 (Bill and Bev being the other two.), which is why it makes sense that Stan initiates the blood oath, since he is the only one who has knowledge of it being female and suspects it’s still alive. Stan’s my favourite character in the story, and I’m sad the movie versions under utilize him. I enjoy his portrayal in both, but I wish he was given a bit more depth and exploration, since although his part seems small, he’s ultimately the one who seems to understand best what’s happening around the Losers. What is most interesting is that Stan isn’t exactly afraid of IT, not in the way the others are. It’s why his ‘monster’ is the dead boys; representations of real dangers, of the tragic deaths of actual kids. Stan fears the fact that such a thing can exist within the universe, that something so perverse could live. He is unable to articulate it as a child, but he calls it an ‘offence’, that IT is an offence against the universe and that is what his mind refuses to tolerate. When he remembers IT as an adult his only option to deal with the existence of such a thing is to remove himself from existence instead.

I think a remember a passage explaining from his wife's point of view that she would often see Stan get a "look," as if he was off somewhere in his mind reliving something that happened to him in his past. But he would always tune back in and act as if nothing happened so she never pressed it further. It always bugged me that, at least in the film, it seemed like his suicide came out of nowhere. And I always wondered how the wife was dealing with it all? I thought It must have destroyed her especially if they seemed so happy. So when I read that part in the book, that she had in fact seen some signs of his trauma/depression up until that point it did give me some much needed perspective. Totally awesome video! I hope you can do all the characters at some point. I'd watch them all!!!

ik it’s awfully sad that stan commited suicide but y’all have to understand he wasn’t completely suicidal, he sacrificed himself. stan was too scared of pennywise to go. if he did go, which i think he would’ve done if he wasn’t thinking what he was, he thought he would’ve made the group lose, for example eddie almost let richie die. stan couldn’t have stayed with his wife because 1) he probably would’ve felt guilty 2) pennywise would’ve killed him someway. he was bound to die if he didn’t go. bev saw everyone die, so he would’ve died one way or another the way he did.

I know I’m late but the reason Stan killed himself was unlike the other losers he remembered everything at the same time and he had a mental breakdown he couldn’t handle all that trauma at once if he had time to process it he probably would have came back and unlike the movie he would have been really helpful since how powerful his psychic awareness was if he went all the losers likely would have lived he wouldn’t have been a liability him dying if anything was a handicap for the losers.

What about the ear holding in his first interaction with pennwise and when mike calls him before he dies?
@Saintletha5 жыл бұрын
Yelling out the bird names was a self-soothing mantra and it gave him protection and power. Like, in horror movies where people yell out prayers to ward off demons or ghosts, the religious incantation holds no merit. It just helps to make you feel safe. If the supernatural were real, why would the creature/entity be hurt or afraid of words from the god only *you* happen to believe in? Thanks for the video. It's been a long time since I've read the book and I've forgotten a lot of this stuff.

Stan dissociated from that place of fear and went to a place that allowed him to psychologically escape said fear.

I realized something else to why Stan and Mike were still able to retain memory of their encounter with IT. Bill, Ben, Bev, Richie, and Eddie were able to overcome what made them losers in some degrees by Bill losing his stutter, Bev becoming rich (even if she was in a abusive relations with a guy like her father), Ben lost his weight, Richie switching to contacts and turn his immitations into a comedy radio hit, and Eddie leaving his mother's protectiveness and follow his own goals. But Mike was picked on Henry and considered a loser because of the color of his skin and Stan was picked on for being a Jew, something they either couldn't over come or choose not to in Stan's case (I don't believe Jewish is genetic but a choice like all religions as Jesus is proof of that in the bible as he was born Jewish and founded Christianity), thus couldn't overcome what they were picked on for. Yeah Mike staying at Dairy had some influence in him still retaining memory, but Stan didn't.

Judaism IS an ethnoreligion. So long as you have a Jewish mother (whether she converted to Judaism or was raised Jewish), you're still considered to be Jewish.
@ashleighstratmann77839 ай бұрын
@@panda-panda757 Jesus mother Mary was Jewish, heck it often said Jesus was born Jewish. So by your own words you might as well be saying he was always was jewish and yet his words and beliefs that came to be beliefs of Christianity thanks to those who choose to believe in and follow him. Religion is a choice no matter what our genetics/dna says as we can choose to stay with the religious belief we were raised on, or we can convert to another religion, or we can choose to be atheist and not believe in any religion.

I think that if mike ever left Derry he wouldn’t have remembered anything and possibly nothing at all. But the fact that he didn’t was really nice. If Stan hadn’t taken his own life I feel like the other Losers would have come to their senses and would have gained their memories quicker as they have the most logical Loser there to help Mike convince them that everything was real.

I dont understand why no one loves Stan (besides the ones that do) he is very underrated he’s apparently the “weak” friend but I don’t understand how he’s “weak” he almost DIED by It and got scared dude he got loads of trauma of course he’s scared Stanley was probaly the most realistic and smart out of the group he always got made fun of which probaly brought his confidence down a lot too Stanley always is the one who is “weak” or “scared” if stanley was so scared why did he go in the house? Why did he cut his hands saying I swear? Where are all my Stan fans here?!

I think it's also worth noting that Pennywise had a range of effect beyond Derry. While Stan was in the bath, Patricia became preoccupied in the sewing room trying to find a button and it felt like something had clouded over her while Stan was dying. This is most assuredly IT's influence in making sure there was no more LosersClub

I watched the two movies over this past weekend. Before I did so my thoughts would wander to Stan often, having read the books and seen the movies before. I always feel very melancholic about this character's death. I actually understand his decision. If I had to deal with something like this I'd have peaced out too, but still he had all his friends... :/ Poor Stan

I kinda like how in IT: Chapter 2 his suicide was actually meant to help his friends, instead of it simply being because he was too afraid to return.

It was a bit more than that In the book all of the other kids who left remember the events slowly except Stanley who remembered them all at once which he couldn’t take mentally so he killed himself if he was just simply afraid of Pennywise otherwise known as Bob Gray or It he just wouldn’t have come and if anything his physic awareness would have been extremely helpful in their fight against it since his was the strongest which is why he did so well in his career and remembered all his trauma at once which as I said mentally he couldn’t take but if he didn’t remember it all at once I doubt he would have killed himself in fact he probably would have came back and if he didn’t leave would have been very helpful in defeating Bob Gray otherwise known as Pennywise or It.

He's the most underutilized but he's probably the choice most people would go for. He's the most realistic. Dude didn't want to believe that It was real, even at the very end. It cursed him even after he moves away, unable to have kids because he was so messed up by what he saw. He never got over it, never understood it, and then they call him to come back, and he says nah I'm good. I'd rather literally kill myself to go through that shit again
